Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

Judging my the fact that Aguero looked absolutely inconsolable and we all know our bodies, especially if we have injury history, he should be out for a long, long time.

If it's a knee ligament it's either a torn ligament or a strained ligament, right? ACL tear he's done for the year. A strain could be a monthish, I think.

I pray that its a strain. But to look at him it looked bad. My best friend tore hist ligament 6 times, every single time he couldn't walk. Given that, it could be a strain.

Dont think its a complete tear because he wouldnt have been able to walk out on his own power but the fact it was so swollen they couldnt MRI means its prob severe enough to be out 6-8 weeks would be my prognosis.

A cruciate ligament injury is not something you can walk away from. It is better to get a broken leg.

Most likely a partial tear and depending on which liga and his history on that lig will determine his recovery time and whether he will require surgery. Of course there is always exceptions but thats the normal procedure. just been in healthcare for 10+ yrs.

Yeah a strain to the collaterals would be a monthish - PCL will be anywhere from a month - 8 weeks.. If it's ACL his season is over, but he would be in a lot more pain

I've done my left ACL twice. The first time I heard a loud pop and cried like a little girl. The second time I walked it off and partied all weekend before I realized something was wrong.

Right, definitely need to use that WC I was saving. Thinking of going from:

    Foster, Myhill
Clyne, Baines, Chambers [RED], Bartley, Steven Taylor [RED]
Yaya, Siggy, Fab [RED], Sanchez, Marney
    Aguero [OUT?], Austin [RED], Benteke

    To:

    Foster, Myhill
    Clyne, Clichy, Janmaat, Bartley, Yun
    Yaya, Siggy, Hazard, Sanchez, Boyd
    Rooney, Costa, Cisse

leaves 0.5 ITB. Can I do better than that?

Azpi went off with a knock today. Could be precautionary but worth keeping an eye on.

Although with a wildcard you have all week to change things so prob doesnt matter.

Do people not think that aguero may have been crying because he will be missing the roma game? All I'm trying to say is that perhaps the injury isn't THAT bad but missing out on the Roma game is enough to upset him (especially after his performance vs Bayern)

Best to wait for more news on his injury IMO

Aguero and Marney ➡ Ings and Sanchez (-4)

    Would leave me with:
    Yaya - Hazard - Sanchez - Downing - Siggy
    Rooney - Ings - Austin

Rotating Ings and Austin home and away would give me SOT, WBA, LIV, CRY, SWA, QPR for the next six gameweeks.

No. A sending off with 2 yellows or a non "violent" challenge (aka stopping a clear goal score opportunity) is one game. An accumulation of 5 yellows is one game, 10 is 2.

Decent replacement if you mean to replace him with an expensive striker. Production won't be near the same, so I'd downshift the investment up front and put it elsewhere.

    So.. What to do?

    Foster/Gilks
    Baines/Cameron/Hutton/Dummett/Rangel
    Aanchez/Downing/Siggy/Hazard/Marney
    Bony/AGUERO/Costa

Who would be the best Aguero replacement? Worth changing formation to 3-5-2? 0ITB, 1FT

I'm contemplating Lukaku, Benteke or Ings as Kun replacement atm. A swith to 3-5-2 is also something to be considered until Kun is fit again.

      Foster
      Baines/Cameron/Hutton
      Sanchez/Downing/Siggy/Hazard
      Bony/Costa

      and replace Aguero with Rooney.

I can't understand the animosity for Lukaku on here - he always seems to do well when I have him. Goals, ghost assists, real assists, bonus points. Just never captain him!

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 3 months ago

Yeah maybe it is because of the countless times he has been a failed captaincy in those easy fixtures. That said....they do have easy fixtures coming up which seem to be the time that he starts to rattle off blanks left and right.

    5. NABIL - FPL otai

Not that bad imo. But I'd prefer Ings or Benteke. Peno duties swing it.

I feel if there are two teams that are the worst in the league to have the pen taker for it would be Burnley and Villa. Don't think I would prefer those two.

Makes more sense to dump Chadli as Chambers can be benched for one game.

Having said that, Tot never looked liked scoring today, so maybe Chadli will get a start next match.
