Granville and I get cosy on a two-seater sofa – within touching distance – just how he likes it.

In truth, my-host is getting too close for comfort: the mini-league gap is down to just 42 points, with Granville relentlessly chiping away at my previously unassailable lead.

We review Gameweek 16’s events, including my oh-so bitter Dzeko pill, before discussing De Gea’s uncanny form, the demise of Leighton Baines and my latest set-to with Jonty: are there better options than Diego Costa up top?

The regulars wrap themselves around that lot, while Granville, thankfully, keeps his hands to himself.

Snuggle up to the noise via this link or get up close and personal via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    1. MadridistaRants

      11 years, 19 hours ago

Yep, Martinez had a press conference. Here's what he said about Mirallas.

"We were very, very worried after the game. It was an incident when you felt there would be damage but the damage is the least it could be - it's great news.

It's to the ligament in his ankle but he's a quick healer and I don't expect him to be out for too long - the game on Saturday is a bit too early but I wouldn't rule him out for any of the fixtures in the Christmas period which is fantastic news."

Looks like I'm not the only who's torn for captaincy between Sanchez, Austin and possibly Yaya too.

Can we list the pros here so that it'll be easy for us to consider again? Feel free to add

    Sanchez
    - well rested
    - not the focal point go-to guy in ARS attack
    - LIV defence is crocked
    - proven Captaincy material

    Austin
    - well rested
    - #1 striker and focal point
    - favorable fixture
    - on PK duty

    Yaya
    - favourable fixture
-should roam forward more with no natural strikers around
    - on PK and some Free Kicks, perhaps

Edging towards that little Chilean now..

      Arsenal vs Liverpool @ Anfield

      Won 3 out of 6 (2-0 2-1 2-1)
      Tied 2 (1-1 4-4)
Lost 1 (5-1, which was at the beginning of this year and is probably on most people's mind still)

I feel Austin was a great pick when we had Aguero in our squads. People needed a budget striker and Austin did a good job.

But now that we have some flex, I can't help but try to look for security in the mid price bucket...have Bony but that leaves Giroud (not Benteke for me, neither Carroll)

Just listened to the scoutcast. Mark made a compelling argument for Costa (C). I think i am going to select him over YYT. All this nonsense about him only scoring 1 per game and netting 5pters is a bunch of bs. He is due a brace soon.

City playing a new system not sure how they will fair playing with a false 9.

    Further, CPL are strong defensively.

Just owning YYT is a differential in itself.....am i making sense?

Keeping in mind the tight schedule, worth getting Eriksen in as a 5th mid, with Giroud/Austin as 3rd striker and a rotatable front 8?

-4 for the week would give

    Hazard Sanchez Sigurdsson Downing Eriksen
    Giroud/Austin Costa Bony

      • 16 Years

I do think a strong front 8 over the next month will be vital. Think we will all be stung by some surprise rotation at some point. Also the Aguero cash means we are all a bit flush so can lose our Boyd type player

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years

Boyd scores when we need him to though. This is known. I will be perfectly happy with him as my fifth midfielder for the maybe one game week where he thrusts himself upon me.

I do feel dirty now i dumped Boyd and yes normally i always play with a dirt cheap mid as 5th choice. Without Aguero injury he would still be there

but when aguero seems like he is ready, it will be a simple fix......

        Ericksen>Boyd
        Bony>Aguero (C) for a 4pt hit.

Yea and the timing of Kun's return for the wildcard is opportune. Just worry about benching points, but I guess that's inevitable.

The Austin love is incredible on these boards. I just find it hard to trust a QPR striker to deliver in time of need. Giroud's a bit of a donkey but he has form going for him in a game that's primed for a few goals this weekend. Does have QPR at home next week too.

But I do see where the Austin love is coming from...home form, QPR know they have to win at home, wants to make up for his dismissal etc

Normally i am not a fan of a midfield/striker rotation policy as it is a benching nightmare and a recipe for points on the bench. However, during the festive schedule, it makes total sense assuming your defense is not in shambles.

Thanks CF. Without Giroud, i'd still have 2 mil in emergency funds to bulk up defence. With Austin, would have 4 mil.

Really 50-50 on Giroud vs Austin. Thing is, would be forced to play Austin (ars) and Downing (che) next week if I pick the latter.

Surely that move is tempting, but for -4? Unless you don't mind getting back those deducted points over a course of 2-3 GWs, then I think it's best to save FT when there's nothing pressing to address.

Agree with Sab, we need strong front 8 over this festive period. Anyone can be rested.

      1. Shifty
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 18 hours ago

Would probably need a -4. If I do Dzeko>Austin, I would have 8 mil in the bank. Seems like a wasted opportunity. Unless this is good enough...

        Guzan
        Wisdom Chambers Clyne/Saylor (Hutton)
        Hazard Sanchez Sigurdsson Downing
        Costa Bony Austin

        8.3m banked after Dzeko>Austin

          • 13 Years
          11 years, 18 hours ago

With that 8.3m itb, you can buy Giroud and make him your 16th player 😆

Giroud & Austin is toss a coin, really. But consider that Walcott is back, that might take a little bit from Giroud's FPL potential. And I'm happy to have Austin and Sanchez atm.

Yea that's true. Arsenal have plenty of options and mids constantly take the attention away from Giroud as an FPL prospect. But his history proves that he's a decent FPL pick at that price. If I already had Austin, I would definitely not think of selling him for Giroud - that's for sure, 100%.

    Caught between playing the fixtures and the comfort blanket of RVP;

Thats the question of the week. Yaya was great with Kun out last year but how will city attack with no striker

yea. i have him set as captain currently. not feeling yaya. don't have costa. hazard's away form is iffy at best. he seems my best bet. i remember someone saying earlier that WBA's record is somehow not telling the whole story. for the life of me though i can't remember what the stats given were or even what they signified. hell, i may even have imagined the whole thing 😀

I don't think there is a good captaincy option this week. I may go without

How good would that be. There some weeks it is so hard to choose from great options then weeks like this where every option has a downside

Taking a look at the jan wc team...the utd n city home and away fits perfectly. Assume both keeps their form, rvp and aguero rotate captaincy will be tasty
