Granville and I get cosy on a two-seater sofa – within touching distance – just how he likes it.

In truth, my-host is getting too close for comfort: the mini-league gap is down to just 42 points, with Granville relentlessly chiping away at my previously unassailable lead.

We review Gameweek 16’s events, including my oh-so bitter Dzeko pill, before discussing De Gea’s uncanny form, the demise of Leighton Baines and my latest set-to with Jonty: are there better options than Diego Costa up top?

The regulars wrap themselves around that lot, while Granville, thankfully, keeps his hands to himself.

Snuggle up to the noise via this link or get up close and personal via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How come Dani Alves wasn't punished for eating that banana? Making a joke like that out of racist is UNACCEPTABLE.

I know which ever of Dummett/Yun I will bench, he will keep a CS. Just hope he doesn't score a goal to make it worse.

Newcastle vs Sunderland is a derby match and I don't see any team keeping a clean sheet so rather bench dummet

But often those derbies are one-sided,I remember a lot of 3-0 and 2-0 scores in the past few years.

            Nope.

I'm going to captain Sanchez ahead of Rooney, Yaya and Austin basically, because he's the highest scoring, I'm in doubt and he plays a day later.

This is true, it's a tough one to call definitely. I've got sanch but I just think Austin will be really up for this game after his rest, and pens are a factor too. Tiny details will dictate success/failure as always

    Morning all,

GTG? Was set on Baines to zaba but he gets a reprieve with kevin out

    Guzan

    Clyne - Baines - Ivano

Haz - Yolo (vc) - Downing - Alexis

    Costa - Bony - Austin (C)

    Subs:Yun, Boyd, Saylor - 1 x FT - 0.1m ITB

    Cheers !

Thanks. I can see zaba doing well this wk end but if baines gets some attacking points this gw with mirallas out I'll be sick as a pig. Baines out for zaba next gw defo for the extra funds. Is saylor defo not nailed do u think?

Well my plan was baines to zab, clyne to clichy which means I can get saylor out for a 4.5m def. Or I could try and get a playing 2nd keeper, just guzan isn't great. City's fixtures are v good so can see a good few cs's

he works hard and scores goals...had 72 points in 860 minutes last season! that's 7.5 points per 90 and 11.9 points per minute..absolutely nuts

but he's coming back from an ACL so no guarantee he's as explosive (though I think he should be fine as I'm a pacy player who had his ACL done and came back nearly as quick and didn't have world class rehab)

          Wow unbelieveable!

My brother had a complete tear on his ACL, suffered while making a tackle as well.
Such a brutal injury, he couldn't put any pressure on his knee and was out for at least 9 months.
I feel for these athletes sometimes as I had to cut my career short due to multiple injuries. No coincidence that its the players that give it their all on every play that tend to get injured.

Hopefully he will be able to comeback and rediscover that form. Even if he doesn't reach it, I rather see him out there playing at 80% then to see him sidelined because your body failed you.

Can I play a just a little devils advocate?

    😈 😈

Is there any possibility that we are putting too much focus on the upcoming MCity fixtures?
    Perhaps overreacting a bit?

They have no true strikers, that are fit. (except for Pozo)

I think we may be anticipating City to perform like they did last year without Aguero, but I'm afraid the circumstances are a bit different this time around?

They needed Lampard to beat Leicester 1-0.

    Any other nice thoughts?

They're amazing at home though, and have three plum fixtures there in the next four. The difficulty is in knowing which players to pick, but three wins to nil would be far from a surprise. I'm grabbing a defender and Yaya, given their home records.

(I do agree that we shouldn't expect them to smash the opposition 4-0 every game, but playing the fixtures is still a sensible thing to do)

        Absolutely. I'm with you guys.
Definitely making the right move; investing your money wisely if you will.

I just think we are kind of expecting City to run over these next 4 no problem, but I could definitely see a hiccup in between.

They already got 2 CS in a row going, can they really make it 6 in a row?

        Possible, but unlikely.

There are too many doubts around their attack, which is why I've opted for defenders instead.

Hmm. In isolation, Terry over Azpi at this time of year (though not otherwise IMO) and N Taylor over Dummett.

Who are your other defenders? I'd base it on which of Swansea and Newcastle rotate best with the rest for the upcoming matches.

        Baines, Naylor, Dummett, Wisdom, Hutton.

I'll go B like everyone else then. N Taylor has a good fixture on Boxing Day, tough ones for Wisdom, Hutton and Dummett.

What color is your Yaya / Bony / Sakho parachute?

    Yaya -> Silva/Nasri/Milner/Lampard/Walcott/Sterling/Eriksen/et al

    Bony / Sakho -> Lukaku/Benteke/Austin/Carroll/Kane/Giroud/Welbeck/et al

4 very quick weeks to go until the Africa Cup of Nations players leave us...

A nice thing about Yaya is that he's more expensive than anyone else - you can afford to sit back for a few weeks and then pick anyone you like depending on form and what else you're doing with the money you'll earn, no need to plan it now.

i'm only thinking ahead because i need to get rid of one from bony & yaya early so i don't have two players i must unload after new year's day

Ah that's sensible to stagger it in that case - a bit like having to get rid of all the Southampton assets at once when the fixtures turned - its best to plan these things ahead. I agree with Sunny on Di Maria - looking at United's fixtures from the New Year, looks the ideal Yaya replacement if money isn't an object.

      Keep Lukaku this weekend.
Southampton is in terrible terrible form, no confidence whatsoever.
      No Wanyama, No Schneiderlin.
Fonte, Clyne, Mane all on of 4 yellows.

Siggy/Bolasie to Eriksen/Downing is a very popular move this week.
