There was plenty of Christmas cheer this week as our members articles and tables offered some tasty statistical treats for high spenders and Scrooges alike. Speaking of Scrooge, there were more than a few cries of “bah, humbug” in our hot topics as the community braced itself for some unwelcome festive rotation. This week has also seen the Scout Picks team take on their highest ranked Community Champion competitor yet and we find out just why one half of our Scoutcast team, in particular, was full of festive spirit.

The Community Articles

Triggerlips won the right to represent the community for the Boxing Day fixtures in the Scout Picks following a close Gameweek 18 Community Champion vote. As our updated Hall of Fame showed, he is the highest achieving community member the Scouts have yet faced.

Meanwhile, we brought you news of a festive break from the Scout Pick Champions Vote. To help us keep up with the busy schedule we are reverting back to the old single Scout Pick method for Gameweeks 19 and 20. Normal service will resume in Gameweek 21.

Following a rare triple blank for The Puntmaster in Gameweek 17, he’s hoping for a better showing from his trio of options for Boxing Day. He also revealed details of a special Christmas competition for budding punters.

Elsewhere, The 3rd Turd delved deep into captaincy statistics to find out if a premium price tag really does translate into a premium point score.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Boxing Day is likely to bring further team sheet surprises and there are more to come over the festive schedule, according to our Christmas rotation horror stories discussion. Among the most unlucky managers in years gone by was Snotgrass, who last Christmas earned zero points for his non-playing captain Yaya Toure and vice captain Wayne Rooney.

Normally Parm is another who fears further rotation. His visit to the ghost of Christmas past turned up these interesting statistics about the pitch time some of our key players have enjoyed in previous years. For JimBobMu, Gameweek 17’s hero Pablo Zabaleta is a shoo-in for a rest at some point. There were plenty more names in the frame for rotation in our round-up of the safest and most at-risk players on Boxing Day.

Doosra dropped by with a Christmas premonition and a sack full of statistics showing that Alexis Sanchez is in dire need of a rest. The downturn in his attacking output has certainly been a worry for the Arsenal midfielder’s owners in recent weeks.

Sticking with the Gunners, Bubz had their defender Per Mertesacker in his sights. The German may be a World Cup winner but his recent performances have been nothing short of shocking, says our community regular. There were also plenty of community members gunning for Diego Costa this week after his disappointing Gameweek 17 blank. StephenL15 was among those to chip in later on and reveal ditching the Chelsea striker in Gameweek 8 catapulted him from 159,000th to 149th in the overall rankings

Fortunes Always Smiling was full of festive nostalgia as he invited the community to look back at the season’s highs and lows so far and Normally Parm revealed just how deep an obsession with Fantasy Football can get, when you start to look forward to Boxing Day matches more than Christmas Day itself.

The Members Tables

Attacking midfielders is the focus of The Hut’s latest Table. If you sort by the last four Gameweeks some surprising stars of yesteryear are revealed near the summit.

Further up the pitch Di-can-i-o Di-can-i-o has been looking at forwards and their goal shooting accuracy, while Vimanas has combined the best of both worlds looking at shot accuracy for both midfielders and attackers.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Tinkerman was replaced at the summit of the FFScout moderators and contributors league by myself following Gameweek 17. But the real story of the league was Granville’s ascent. He climbed to ninth, controversially narrowing the gap with his Scoutcast co-host Mark to just two points going into tomorrow’s matches.

In many of our other prominent community leagues it was business as usual going into the Boxing Day fixtures, with Ciaran Lamont continuing to lead the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, Adam Johnson remaining top of the FFS Dead Zone league and Dan Clark sitting pretty at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club, a league for our more senior community members.

I don't see Sanchez coming in off the bench. He's too important. Either he'll play the whole game or Wenger will rest him for West Ham away in a few days.

Only other option is if Sanchen starts and it is 3-0 by HT. Then i could see him come off, but doubt that will happen

As an AFC fan personally think talk of a rest is majorly overplayed here. Who do they think will start in his place - Joel Campbell? With Ozil and Walcott out, and Chamberlain needed elsewhere there's not actually loads of options. I think 70mins+ as per usual

Depends of course, but yeah, probably. He'll get rest when Ozil and Walcott (and Ramsey - freeing up Ox for RFW) are fit and make that possible.

Damn, I was sooo set on Bony but now you're swaying me towards Sanchez ... my friend who's an Arsenal fan also reckons he'll get rested for FA cup but not now.

He has had 2 cameos in the one year since he was injured against Spurs, both were 6 weeks ago and he hasnt played since. Hes "back", but hes in no way favourite to start. I do agree that Alexis has looked tired and in need of a little rest, but the fact is they really dont have that many options atm, and lets not forget that he is a machine. I also reckon the 70+ min mark for him.

Yup. Being 'in need of a rest' according to peeps on a forum doesn't equate to all that much irl.

Idk, hard to tell really. Depends on tomorrow. How much he plays, and how fast Walcott/Rosicky can recover and become optios for starts. At the moment though, AOX is the only winger they have left, and hes needed centrally. And Wenger doesnt really rotate his players, thats not his thing.

If Sanchez plays, he could get a lot. Hes had his best games at home, and QPR are awful and especially so on the road. Can easily see Arsenal scoring 3 or more, and he could be in on the fun. I do have high hopes for Bony. Sure, Villa are pretty tight, but theyve been getting off easy in many games. And with him getting rested against Hull i do think hes eager to leave a mark, and Swans are exellent at home. If youre looking at either for captains, id go Bony given the circumstances.

Agree 100% but it's that 'If' at the start that's causing me trouble, normally it's Sanchez but with Giroud back and doubt on minutes as well it's tough.

Tbh i dont think Giroud is causing uncertainty over Alexis`s minutes. They really dont have that many options to replace Alexis with, and Wenger doesnt rotate. After some deliberation i think im just gonna stick and hope it pans out.

But then the only reason to go with Bony is if Sanchez will come on for a cameo, that't not likely is it?

So what are people doing with Chambers? Playing him or not? Based off the team news there's speculation he's going to be rested

Haven't seen any real confirmation about that, so he's either going to start or make a probable cameo in the last few minutes!

Already got Taylor/Azpi/Clyne and Davies as my back 4 in my XI

Depends how strong your bench is. How much in the bank/who could you afford?

So do i, my defence used to be great value shrewd picks. Now its just cheap and getting killed by other defences pimped out with the extra money flowing around

    Sanchez -> Fabregas worth it?

Nailed on to play all 3 games, plays for a more consistent team.

I have Haz, Sanchez, Chambers in my XI, all of which could or could not start for various reasons. 2 playing benchers in Wisdom and Marney

Yun seems out for a while. Is it worth doing Yun>Hutton for a hit? Would provide insurance in case my XI is dropped and bolster my defence for next 3 games (Villa food fixtures)

    Thanks

I'm in the same boat. Thinking of booting Sanchez and Yun for Caz and Zabb

People are mixing up with Hazard & Sanchez situation. Hazard won't be on the bench today for such an important game- if he doesn't start it means he's rested for his injury recovery so chances are high that he won't be in the squad. With Sanchez it's different- he has no injury so it's a rest for fatigue which means he's likely to be on the bench (if he doesn't start) & will come on after 70s like Bony did last GW.

    In Summary,
    Hazard 0 or 90.
Sanchez 70 or 20 approx. IMO.

Those of you telling me that Sanchez is a season keeper: I see old Doosface is running around armed with his latest stats on Sanchez.

Essentially, doos makes the point that Sanchez is running out of fizzle. I never agree with anything he says but this time he may have a case.

      Thoughts in response?

Noone is season keeper but he is home to qpr in 12 hours. Its a risky time to move on thats for sure

could be. We have an uninspiring example in Ozil case last winter. But then this is not the fixture to remove him, especially for a hit. I'm holding onto him.

Doorsa stats don't lie, Giroud is ruining his attacking returns. That situation can change though, Arsenals fixtures are going to take a nosedive however after QPR

      Guzan/x
      Cresswell/Duff/Naylor/Ivan/Baines
      Siggy/Haz/Alexis/Downing/Eriksen
      Dzeko/Bony/Austin

Dzeko -> Giroud is happening. Thoughts on doing Cresswell -> Zabaleta and benching Naylor? Or Duff -> Sunderland defender (most likely). Or just save FT and have 2 next week as well?

Both have merit. Im not sure where duff injury at, says return 26 dec on fpl, not that they ever have a clue.
Id play sunderland defender and naylor over austin / downing
