The quick turnaround in fixtures means we’re reverting back to last season’s Scout Picks format, with just a single set of players in our article. We’ll also retain this in midweek due to the hectic schedule before returning to our new format in time for Gameweek 21.

We’re backing Hull to keep out basement-dwellers Leicester tomorrow afternoon and turn to Allan McGregor between the sticks. Steve Bruce’s side have conceded just once in their last two at the KC and will be buoyed by their Boxing Day win at Sunderland – Leicester, on the other hand, have taken one points from their last 11 league outings and have mustered a mere four goals on their travels all season.

Rested for Friday’s win at West Brom, Pablo Zabaleta is in line for a recall at home to Burnley. City have conceded just two in their last six, whilst the right-back has served up a goal and assist in his previous three league appearances – points at both ends of the pitch look a definite possibility, then.

Let’s face it, Stoke’s defence have hardly been convincing but a clean sheet at Everton bodes well ahead of a derby home encounter with West Brom. The Potters’ skipper Ryan Shawcross comes into contention, then, with the visitors scoring in just one of their last three road trips, whilst the centre-half’s threat in the opposition box strengthens his appeal against the Baggies.

Villa’s home clash with Sunderland convinces us to select one of Paul Lambert’s regular defenders. The Black Cats make their way to the midlands having scored just one goal in their last three on the road and we’re placing our faith in Alan Hutton to replicate the form which saw him find the net in his previous home encounter.

A goal away to Burnley means Raheem Sterling has netted three times in four appearances across all competitions since being moved to the centre of the front three. Intriguingly, Sterling has produced more shots (12), efforts in the area (eight) and attempts on target (six) than any other midfielder in the last three Gameweeks as a result of his new role – he’ll fancy his chances of delivering against a visiting Swansea side with a single win in their last six road trips.

With Olivier Giroud stuck in the stands as a result of his Boxing Day moment of madness, Alexis Sanchez’ stock is on the rise again. The Chilean’s eye for goal could well see him shifted back into a central role as Arsenal roll up to West Ham – the showdown against Big Sam’s side is far from straightforward but Sanchez’ five goals in three appearances through the middle prior to Giroud’s return from an ankle injury highlights his potential.

Three goals and an assist in the last two matches in a false nine system makes David Silva an automatic pick. Subbed off just after the hour mark as his manager looks to protect him over the festive period, the little Spaniard is set to be unleashed from the start at home to Burnley tomorrow and has the form to wreak havoc on Sean Dyche’s struggling side.

Christian Eriksen welcomes United to the Lane on the back of yet another goal scoring display. Tottenham’s great Dane took his tally to four strikes, two assists and 10 bonus points in his last seven league outings after firing the winner away to Leicester on Friday. Granted, the Red Devils won’t make it easy but with just a single clean sheet on their travels all season – at Burnley in Gameweek 3 – United’s rearguard are in for a tough time as the hosts go in search of a fourth straight league victory.

An average of 7.7 points per home appearance cements Charlie Austin’s spot in our Gameweek 19 picks as QPR welcome managerless Palace to Loftus Road. Six goals and two assists in the last four in front of his own fans makes a mockery of a 6.2 price tag – Harry Redknapp’s side have scored at least twice in each of their last seven at Loftus Road and look poised to heap more misery on their out-of-sorts visitors.

Back in form against the Hammers, Diego Costa will be looking to fire Chelsea to another victory away to Southampton. The Saints have arrested a recent run of form and served up back-to-back victories but have, nonetheless, lost two of their last three at St Mary’s, with both City and United plundering the points. Jose Mourinho’s side will be looking to maintain that three-point gap over City and with Eden Hazard yet to score on his travels, we’re placing our faith in Costa to do the business instead.

In a season blighted by injury and suspension, Christian Benteke has yet to explode as a Fantasy force. The Villa forward hosts Sunderland in the first of three home fixtures in the next four Gameweeks and, having bagged a superb goal and couple of bonus points against United in his previous Villa Park appearance, he’ll be looking to condemn Gus Poyet’s side to another defeat tomorrow afternoon.

QPR centre-half Steven Caulker has produced more efforts inside the box than any defender this season ahead of a derby home clash with Palace. Bearing in mind the visitors have a single goal in their last four road trips, Caulker’s prospects look promising for this one.

A home clash with Arsenal affords West Ham the chance to bounce back from their defat at Chelsea. Big Sam’s side have dropped just two points in their last seven at Upton Park, whilst the Gunners have conceded twice in three of their last four on the road – with that in mind, Stewart Downing earns the nod on the back of a series of consistent displays which have seen him score of assist in four of his last five appearances.

We’re rolling the dice on our final option and handing Bojan Krkic a rare Scout Picks outing. The Spaniard’s spot-kick duties helped Stoke to a crucial win at Everton on Friday and his quality could prove the difference as the Potters look to get one over midlands rivals West Brom at the Britannia.

    4. Marty McFly
      11 years, 10 months ago

The only thing I'd consider is moving Clyne on. Form isn't brilliant and with (CHE, ARS, mun) coming up in his next 3 that could easily return less than 6 points. Taking a hit for a Chelsea or City defender (if you can squeeze one in) would surely earn you more than 10pts in the next three and make it worthwhile? If there has ever been a time to take a hit on a defender, this is it!!

Kolarov seems to be the popular one for sub 6m? Hutton would leave you with a nice bit of cash ITB, which could be good to have for a 1 week punt before the Jan WC?

Kolarov will likely be benched GW20.
Hutton gives me a defender for the next 3 & hides Was/Clyne.

Bench Walters. Form wins this battle convincingly.

Nope. Took a hit on a defender today for the first time but wouldn't have fielded three of them otherwise.

      1. NATSTER
        11 years, 10 months ago

Thanks. I rarely consider a hit for defender too.

But Naylor is likely to get 1 point while Zabaleta could earn some attacking points, I feel.

I want to bring in Silva (Sigur out). To finance it, I need a hit. So would you rather:

A - Costa out for Benteke, giving Benteke and Bony up front.

B - Bony out for Kane, giving Costa and Kane up front.

B is my preference, as Bony needs to go (AFCON) soon and there is more form with those two. But Benteke has good fixtures. What's the consensus?

    1. Marknlard
      11 years, 10 months ago

Not too keen on Kane's next two fixtures compared to Benteke.

    2. Walsh
      11 years, 10 months ago

I wouldn't take a hit to do this, but given these choices I think B is way way better.

      1. Marknlard
        11 years, 10 months ago

It's to get Silva in, which should be worth it. Can't afford otherwise.

        1. Walsh
          11 years, 10 months ago

          I understand, just don't think it's worth a hit.

Depends if you will use the Jan WC straight away.

It's a simple Benteke + Bony vs Costa + Kane.

      Tempted by the 1st.

      1. Marknlard
        11 years, 10 months ago

Yup, that's the choice. It's fixtures or form again - in recent years, form has won.

    4. Royal5
      11 years, 10 months ago

B, if any. Kane could've sxored twice against Chelsea last time they met. Villa stink going forward and Ben got 2-3 goals in 9 games.

      1. Marknlard
        11 years, 10 months ago

Good point. I prefer Benteke as a player to Kane but that should have nothing to do with it.

GW16: Trade in Dzeko: injured in warmup (0)
GW17: Trade in Bony: rested (1)
GW18: Trade in Giroud: red card (-2)

If I kept Austin regardless, would've got 24 points, instead, -1.

Seems like it's split between Austin and Silva for the majority here, with maybe 60-70% on austin. Still deliberating myself though

Which of these are best to get out of my team? Only 1 ft and its a tough call.
chambers - less game time now
yun - injured but he'd only be sub anyway
clyne - two hard fixtures although I'd loselout on value as had him for a while
Baines - poor form and could make room for city or Chelsea defender
Maybe even worth taking a hit and losing two of them? Any advice appreciated

Chambers I went for - Less game time, pretty bad form and his price could rapidly drop over next few GW's.

Who'd you go for as replacement? I've only got .3 in the bank so has to be budget unless I also lose Baines and take a hit. thinking about Hutton but that would double up with guzan...

I put Hutton in as his replacement; 4.3 for a 4.8 sale.

Gots a bad feeling about GW19!! Had about 3 or 4 very good GW's in a row now so hoping it carries on!

    Just niggling me over whether to play downing or not now? LFC aren't a huge goal threat this season;

    Hart

    Hutton, Terry, Clichy

    Downing, Sanchez, Hazard, Silva (VC)

    Bony, Costa, Austin (C)

Subs; Naylor, Boyd and Yun (inj)

      Yes play downing

M playing him and a rested sakho over Adam Johnson

      Feel both will deliver well

        Cheers!

Downing is due another decent week and with Arsenals defence he will hopefully score well this week. **fingers crossed**

Who's the best defender to get before the Jan WC?

    Have: Hart; Azpil,Baines,Chambers, Naylor, Duff

Zabaleta now that he's been rested.

        Rested or dropped?
        He's been rested twice now!

If you want to pop an early WC then get Zab, if not, I'd just get another Chelsea defender I think.

    3. Kurtinho

      Skrtel, Zabaleta, Hutton/Clark/Vlaar, Caulker

Dissapointed at being knocked out the cup 86-89 to someone who has not made a transfer since GW5 is an understatement!

Guys need some help again. Need to replace Giroud, 8.5 budget.

Most are suggesting Benteke. Not really sold on Villa going forward. Any other suggestions? Does anyone feel Jovetic will get a start?

Good chance he'll play, don't think he'll play full 90 (hoping he doesn't for silva's sake)

Defence of Skrtel - Demi - Azpi - Wisdom - Yun. Hoping Demi and Azpi play! Have a feeling they may be benched...

    1. Arctic monkeys
      11 years, 10 months ago

Demi more likely to be benched , i think Azpi will play though as he already got a rest.

    1 - play two
    A. Baines
    B. Iva
    C. Hutton

    2- play
    A. Downing
    B. Eriksen
    Bed decision !

    1. Kurtinho
      11 years, 10 months ago

Baines and Ivan + Eriksen. The most explosive options. You'll have a great bench.
