So we made it – 2015 is upon us and, almost immediately, we’re back in the Gameweek groove.

Before thoughts turn to the deadline and I start tapping out my hungover Preamble, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a huge Happy New Year.

I’d also like to take this chance to give a shout-out to all those who, over the last twelve months and previous years, have contributed to the running of this site with words, expertise, blood, sweat and tears. Thanks.

A special mention must go to Paul, who continues to relentlessly churn out words of exceptional quality on a daily basis. Also to Jonty, who, along with our brilliant moderation team, has worked to ensure that Fantasy Football Scout continues to thrive as one the most active, knowledgeable and opinionated football communities around. And finally to Ed who provides the technical know-how and does his best to turn my development ideas into reality. While Chris and myself distract ourselves with developing Fantasy Football Scout as a business to keep things going, these people help to maintain and grow the site that you read each week.

Finally, I’d like to thank you, the community, for your contributions, enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. Myself, Paul and the writers work tirelessly to provide articles worth reading but we’re well aware that Fantasy Football Scout grows due to the contributions made by our community. You know your stuff.

Next year will be another big one for us. On Monday, work begins on Fantasy Football Scout version 4. It’s about time we became more usable on tablet and mobile platforms and we’re about to sort that. We began a few months back by considering keeping the majority of what you see now – carrying out some Botox injections if you like. In the end, we’ve opted for the full facelift and we’ve hired an expert surgeon to carry it out. Coding on the next version of Fantasy Football Scout will commence from next week and, in a few months time, we’ll be coming to you to help us test it.

Ed will do bits and pieces on that but, on the whole, he’s going to be dedicated to realising some of my new ideas that have been brewing. The first fruits of that labour are imminent. More on that very soon.

Some of you may have noticed that we’re also hiring. We’re looking to bring in at least two new writers to join Paul’s editorial team and we’ve already got a batch of applicants to sort through. If you’ve missed our ad and feel you’re up to the task, get in touch via writers@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

That’s about it from me. I need to go sober up in preparation for 11.30 – I can’t afford to bring on another Kolarov epiphany.

Happy New Year to all!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Sanchez >>> Sterling

    - short-term punt until Jan WC GW23
    - Liverpool have great fixtures
    - Arsenal have two very tough away games
    - Sanchez no longer on pens
    - Liverpool changed tactics to quick, fast counter attacking with Sterling the focus

Sanchez playing up top, six attempts against WHU - more than any of his team-mates. Captain material.

Sterling's finishing is rubbish lately, and will share points with Lallana + Coutinho (although it's Leicester).

      Enough said

        - He has started 4 games since 13th Dec, when he returned from injury
        - With Aguero and Dzeko out and Yaya away, they desperately need to keep him fit

When doing the January WC people on here are making big mistakes in my opinion when choosing their defence. I find that the template team that is created is far too short sighted to be the optimal way of playing. When choosing a defence I see everyone only looking around 4 weeks ahead whereas I think 10 weeks or more is the way to go because it means the defence is solid every week and you don't have to waste valuable transfers on 4.5m defenders. The midfield and forward slots aren't as important to get right because the on form players change week to week yet the defence is much morr consistent.

I started the year with 5 defenders who rotated well, and had good fixtures for the first 2 months of the season.

They were Ferdinand, Chester, Kelly, PvA, and Clyne. I can imagine you know how that turned out.

Can't avoid injuries and players getting dropped. Don't wastr transfers on defenders because they have bad fixtures is the point.

My starting defence for the season was Terry, Naylor, Chester, Hutton and Wisdom. Sadly it seems like I wasted transfers to get a worse defence now (Baines, Zabaleta, Hutton, Wisdom, Dummett).

The problem with long term planning is (as mentioned by others) that injuries/suspention can easily ruin your plans. Your players could be missing for some of those tasty fixtures. Of course, this could also happen when you plan for 4 weeks.

I guess I agree with you, but make sure to always have a full set of playing defenders. Don't take hits, and trust your subs.

      Greetings from a drunken fellow.

Looks good. If you feel so inclined, might wanna bring in Sterling. Playing at home in a false 9. Question is who to take off for him πŸ™‚

I prefer Lallana now he is hitting the net too, I thought about it and would only consider transferring out Wanyama & Siggy though... which means downgrading Hart/Zaba in the next 2 GWs so accomodate.

    Baines, Azpi, Hutton
Sanchez, Haz (C), Silva (VC), Downing

Worth a -4 to do Ameobi -->> Mirrallas and bench kane?

Just worried if a few players get rested I
won't be able to field a full team

    Hi all,
A grand total of -2 from my last two captain picks.
Another really difficult choice this GW.

Originally I had to choose between Austin, Sterling, Benteke, Hazard or Costa

Im whittling it down to Austin or Benteke with Sterling in third.
There is a very strong chance Sterling is benched and will only come on if needed.

Benteke is my fav choice because playing Palace at home and Jedinak out.
He is a bit of a risk too tho cos his overall form has been very poor.

Im going to go with Austin I think. He is the safest choice.
With a ranking inside the Top 500, and 2 dismal weeks-
I think it's best not to be be gambling on Benteke, Sterling etc

    What do ye think?

Austin over Benteke makes sense. Safer choice

Just noticed that I finished the year with the magic number as my rank
    42 42
This has to be a good omen for the year in which I turn 42
Also, my son was born At 2:42 in room 242

Any other omens of good fortune for 2015 out there?
