So we made it – 2015 is upon us and, almost immediately, we’re back in the Gameweek groove.

Before thoughts turn to the deadline and I start tapping out my hungover Preamble, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a huge Happy New Year.

I’d also like to take this chance to give a shout-out to all those who, over the last twelve months and previous years, have contributed to the running of this site with words, expertise, blood, sweat and tears. Thanks.

A special mention must go to Paul, who continues to relentlessly churn out words of exceptional quality on a daily basis. Also to Jonty, who, along with our brilliant moderation team, has worked to ensure that Fantasy Football Scout continues to thrive as one the most active, knowledgeable and opinionated football communities around. And finally to Ed who provides the technical know-how and does his best to turn my development ideas into reality. While Chris and myself distract ourselves with developing Fantasy Football Scout as a business to keep things going, these people help to maintain and grow the site that you read each week.

Finally, I’d like to thank you, the community, for your contributions, enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. Myself, Paul and the writers work tirelessly to provide articles worth reading but we’re well aware that Fantasy Football Scout grows due to the contributions made by our community. You know your stuff.

Next year will be another big one for us. On Monday, work begins on Fantasy Football Scout version 4. It’s about time we became more usable on tablet and mobile platforms and we’re about to sort that. We began a few months back by considering keeping the majority of what you see now – carrying out some Botox injections if you like. In the end, we’ve opted for the full facelift and we’ve hired an expert surgeon to carry it out. Coding on the next version of Fantasy Football Scout will commence from next week and, in a few months time, we’ll be coming to you to help us test it.

Ed will do bits and pieces on that but, on the whole, he’s going to be dedicated to realising some of my new ideas that have been brewing. The first fruits of that labour are imminent. More on that very soon.

Some of you may have noticed that we’re also hiring. We’re looking to bring in at least two new writers to join Paul’s editorial team and we’ve already got a batch of applicants to sort through. If you’ve missed our ad and feel you’re up to the task, get in touch via writers@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

That’s about it from me. I need to go sober up in preparation for 11.30 – I can’t afford to bring on another Kolarov epiphany.

Happy New Year to all!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Did that last season, the game against Norwich where he got like 3 complete luck assists and maybe a goal, i cant really remember. Not getting someone in just to have them get a huge haul is the thing that makes me salty in this game.

I have to agree with this.
Sanchez playing up top is an idea, especially with Southampton a bit shorthanded. Even still, they could be a tough nut to crack.

So, the Sterling conundrum, my 2 cents.

Pros: Playing striker for a team on the rise, creating chances again and facing one of the worst teams in the league with their defensive core out due to injuries/suspensions.

Cons: Wasteful. Chances of him getting huge hauls are not that high. He can score or get an assist, but most games he wont reach double digits, even those games when hes playing well. Still not completely convinced that Liverpool are back to their good ways. Brendan Rodgers has stated that he WILL rest Sterling in January.

He's not at all convincing in front of goal. He does well on occasion but if he could finish consistently than he'd score hatfulls. It may come with age.

He has. Some people dont agree. For me its whats missing for him to take the step from where he is now, to the group of players that are in the group behind Ronaldo and Messi. That and concistency, ofcourse.

Definitely, his career is starting out very similar to how Ronaldos did. Except, of course, Ronaldo is a clinical finisher in front of goal.

You could say there are similarities. Hes an exceptional talent, to be where he is in his career at the age of 20 is very promising. He definitely needs to keep improving, but at this moment the world is still his oyster.

See above, i dont think hes got that "explosion" thing about him. I dont think hes consistent or good enough to pull off double digit scores in most games. IF it were to happen, this week is as good as any. Hes a good option, definitely.

hey mate. read about your struggles some pages back. just want to wish you well and tell you to keep your head up. You'll be right and your self belief will come back πŸ˜€

I agree. Not only is he a little wasteful but he doesn't know how to play as that striker role and sturridge will be back soon anyway. Plus... lallana is a better option fantasy wise. He is really making us tick at the moment.

Oh, hi. That was some pages ago. Thank you for the kind words. You might think that "its only the internet and it probably doesnt mean much", but to me it actually adds up. Like i said in that post, if nothing else, it helped me get through tonight, and as things are now, a step at the time is the only way to go for me i feel.

He doesnt know how to play striker because its not his natural position, taking that into account i think hes doing pretty well. His finishing has always left something to be desired for me. I agree that Lallana has been exellent for us the past few games, him and Coutinho are the ones pulling us at the moment. Sadly, hes also pretty wasteful and inconsistent, so i would have to agree with what you said about Lallana beeing the hidden gem in our FPL pool. Hes also the least likely to get rotated as things are now, i feel.

This is also an issue for me. I`d like to get someone from Liverpool in, but i dont trust any of them that much. I mean i wouldnt captain any of them if i got one in for the Leicester game, which i think is a statement to that i shouldnt get anyone. Am I good?

Havent sold Giroud as I havent seen any one really worth the transfer, is it normally like this or re we light on the ground for good strikers this year?

Thinking of doing Sanchez>Yaya for a one week punt.

    What do you guys think?

I already own Silva but reckon Yaya will do some damage in his farewell match and Arsenal will struggle against Southampton.

His lack of big hauls is putting me off though. I think he creates the space for others with his unselfish runs. Was very disappointed that he wasn't involved in any of the goals vs Swansea.

Maybe A. Sigurdsson's fixtures are not great. Can backfire easily, though.
But honestly, there is really nothing urgent.

Who to bench from this front 8:
    Sanchez Silva Downing Hazard Fabregas
    Bony Benteke Austin.

I'm really on the fence about it. But I can see any number being rested, so the question may be moot.

I have the same front 8 except Costa instead of Bony and I'm benching Downing.

        Thanks.
Downing against the managerless WBA is an interesting one. Teams often play ultra-tight after their manager is sacked, so benching Downing might just work. It is a risk, but they all are.

I did Bony --> Costa earlier in the week whilst intoxicated. I really hope this doesn't hurt me this week!

Also just thinking about what Merseyside Red has been saying about captaining Sanchez. I watched that game last time out and Arsenal were toothless against an inform Southampton side - it's just a matter of which arsenal turn up right?
