So we made it โ€“ 2015 is upon us and, almost immediately, weโ€™re back in the Gameweek groove.

Before thoughts turn to the deadline and I start tapping out my hungover Preamble, Iโ€™d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a huge Happy New Year.

Iโ€™d also like to take this chance to give a shout-out to all those who, over the last twelve months and previous years, have contributed to the running of this site with words, expertise, blood, sweat and tears. Thanks.

A special mention must go to Paul, who continues to relentlessly churn out words of exceptional quality on a daily basis. Also to Jonty, who, along with our brilliant moderation team, has worked to ensure that Fantasy Football Scout continues to thrive as one the most active, knowledgeable and opinionated football communities around. And finally to Ed who provides the technical know-how and does his best to turn my development ideas into reality. While Chris and myself distract ourselves with developing Fantasy Football Scout as a business to keep things going, these people help to maintain and grow the site that you read each week.

Finally, Iโ€™d like to thank you, the community, for your contributions, enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. Myself, Paul and the writers work tirelessly to provide articles worth reading but weโ€™re well aware that Fantasy Football Scout grows due to the contributions made by our community. You know your stuff.

Next year will be another big one for us. On Monday, work begins on Fantasy Football Scout version 4. Itโ€™s about time we became more usable on tablet and mobile platforms and weโ€™re about to sort that. We began a few months back by considering keeping the majority of what you see now โ€“ย carrying out some Botox injections if you like. In the end, weโ€™ve opted for the full facelift and weโ€™ve hired an expert surgeon to carry it out. Coding on the next version of Fantasy Football Scout will commence from next week and, in a few months time, weโ€™ll be coming to you to help us test it.

Ed will do bits and pieces on that but, on the whole, heโ€™s going to be dedicated to realising some of my new ideas that have been brewing. The first fruits of that labour are imminent. More on that very soon.

Some of you may have noticed that weโ€™re also hiring. Weโ€™re looking to bring in at least two new writers to join Paulโ€™s editorial team and weโ€™ve already got a batch of applicants to sort through. If youโ€™ve missed our ad and feel youโ€™re up to the task, get in touch via writers@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Thatโ€™s about it from me. I need to go sober up in preparation for 11.30 โ€“ I canโ€™t afford to bring on another Kolarov epiphany.

Happy New Year to all!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Last 5 games for points scored:

    Sanchez = 27
    Cazorla = 40

    So that is quite a difference in points. So is Cazorla the better option.

      Cazorla has scored 3 penalties in the past 4 games and that has helped him generate 6 bonus points. Sanchez has missed a penalty in that time.

      Without penalties the scores for the past 5 games would be:

      Sanchez = 29
      Cazorla = 19

        The points difference would be greater if Cazorla had of taken the penalty that Sanchez missed. Isn't penalties a good reason to buy a player. Admittedly this week Sanchez is the better option if he plays up front but I still fancy Cazorla. Sanchez seems to score well against weaker sides though.

          You can't expect Arsenal to get a penalty every week though. Let's face it, they won't keep up that record of 0.8 pens a game but they can expect to keep up the number of shots they are having per game and chances they are creating. If you can't see my point I really can't help you.

          Cazorla may outscore Sanchez this week, but you should always play the odds, and the odds say Sanchez every time.

    Happy new year all.

    I just saw something several pages back (first page of this article) that confirmed my faith in humanity. PsychoBingo going through some hard sh*t and Somalian talking him through it with kind words. Just wanted to say that was one of the coolest things I have seen on FFS. PsyB telling it real and Som just being there for him--they don't even know each other. Maybe won't solve anything but seriously brotherly sh*t. Very much pulling for PsyB and respect to Som.

    Enjoy the new year and score fewer points than me!

    I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Mark and all those who are a part of FFS, including posters, members and the FFS team. The site is an absolute credit to you guys. While I lurk more than I post and I do not spend as much time on the site as I would like, it is fantastic that no matter what is going on in life or how tough the challenges of life are, this site is available to provide a much needed distraction and experience a sense of community. I especially enjoyed taking part in the world cup tournament during the summer, which provided a great distraction as I had to complete a thesis during the summer and the escapism that tournament provided contributed significantly to getting it done and keeping me level headed. What this site has become is nothing short of fantastic and all those who contributed to its growth and continue to contribute should be very proud.

    Thank you and happy new year to you all.

    Nasri > Sterling for a FT.

    Tough decision as I could see both do well this GW. When I asked earlier almost everyone went with Sterling. Should I make the transfer?

  16. Miami Monkey
    • 12 Years
    11 years, 4 months ago

    Defense is currently: Baines / Azpi / Skrtel / Dummett / Yun

    Yun is out, and Skrtel is out this match but has good following fixtures. Have 2 FTs. Have exactly enough ITB to do Yun --> Evans or Jones while still saving a transfer. But then have a bit of a benching dilemma next week.

    Is it crazy to do Azpi to one of the Man U defenders? Chelsea's fixture isn't great this week. Next is home to Newcastle, which is good but Newcastle is the team that beat them 2-1 not long ago.After that it's away to Swansea and home to Man City. Azpi has only risen 0.2 so I'd only lose 0.1 of value (and he might drop actually) before getting him back maybe GW 24.

    Thoughts?

    Frontline is Costa / Bony / Austin. I want to keep Bony for this game. Obvious replacement is Kane but they are playing Chelsea this week, so don't think I want to make an offensive transfer

      Downing on bench is mistake. I would even say that he is a reasonable captain choice

      Lot of people giving you stick for resting downing. Logically you should play him, he has brom at home, but given your front 8 its hard to pick someone to bench.

      I would bench ericksen or kane. Why are you benching downing?

      Thanks for comments. One of those rounds where bench players are difficult.

      Siggy for me. Azpi is so deep on the bench he'll never get on

    Cheers, Happy New Year fantasy footballers!

    Who would you start between

    Dummett (BUR H)

    Eriksen (CHE H)

    Kane (CHE H)

    It's driving me mad! Burnley will be buzzing after scoring 2 at city, but are still suspect away from home and could well fail to score against Newcastle. I doubt Eriksen or Kane will get anything but am having visions that Tottenham will score one.

    Good luck!

    Any advice? (1FT, 2.9ITB)

    Fabianski
    Baines - Naylor - Azpi
    Silva - Downing - Sanchez - Hazard
    Austin - RVP - Kane
    (Boyd - Wisdom - Duff)

    A) RVP -> Jovetic
    B) RVP -> Costa
    C) Baines -> Zab
    D) Fabianski -> Hart
    E) Boyd -> Hendersen
