Granville and I make a New Year return to the ScoutCast studio, battered and bruised by the events of Gameweek 20 which saw us both inexplicably bench Harry Kane and his 18-point haul.

Having wasted our big differential and haunted by constant reminders, my co-host and I struggle to make a recovery. Spitting the pips from our sour grapes, we do our best to justify our doomed decision-making, before attempting to salve the wounds with talk of the Winter Wildcard refresh around the usual batch of regulars.

    What an extended sports weekend that is about to befall us. The return of the Prem...NFL playoff football with some dandy matchups........all capped off by Monday night college football championship. I'm not a huge college football fan, per se, but I like it enough to be amped up for that one.

        I meant to hit reply and hit the upvote instead. So that doesn't count...ha ha. To each his own. Raised as a Steelers fan, it's hard not to get up for the season. And, I live in Ohio, so you can imagine the Ohio State buzz. Just provides some good sporting action for a cat like me. To each his own, I suppose. I honestly didn't watch any college games until the playoffs. Not exactly my favorite stuff to watch.

          Not intended to detract, sorry. I've watched it all my life. Big Saints fan or was. Became sort of a love/hate thing and with all the crooked exec crap that goes on I've just lost interest.

    both Clyne and Bertrand average around 5ppg, seems crazy value considering they're only £5.7m each and have relatively good fixtures from GW22. I'm considering doubling up with Terry and ignoring the cheap 3x rotation. Good idea or not?

      Doubled on Forster and Bertrand earlier on. Wish I'd kept Bertrand now 🙂

        wish I doubled up on saints earlier in the season. The problem I see with van Aanholt is Sunderland have only kept 2 clean sheets at home all season so he's hardly reliable in a rotation. Hutton and Wisdom could be a good pairing though.

          yeh, Soton and Chelsea are the best defensive sides by far (so far). Keep thinking Alderweireld as the 2nd Saint might be more sensible though given his price - could put that money into my attack.

                In the long run, he was only going to score points - but those who had Fabregas, got the price rises and then changed to Hazard are probably laughing at someone like me who has never owned Fabregas so far this season.

        WC question. FPL says WC can be used from GW20 until GW 23 ends (7th Feb 11.30am).

        So will we be able to use it up until GW24 starts?

        I wondered if they consider the GW to 'end' after the last game of the game week ie Sun/Mon/Wed or the GW is officially over when the new GW starts.

        Hope that makes sense. 🙂

              Buying a GK doesn't affect your ability to buy defenders.

            Cheers, Cheers. I have twisted and turned on Trippier. Marney i'm kinda stuck with cos he's cheap. Will prob go with trippier for the decent fortnight that Burnley have then rotate anyway. Giroud will also be cut over the next few weeksto Ings/ Berahino to make way for a Rooney to Aguero upgrade. Will do this gradually let Kun get settled. Currently a spare 1.3 through that transaction will allow me to shed Marney for a better midfield option. Never liked Giroud he is surrounded by so much talent SURELY he's good for appx a month. Thanks so much for your feedback Cheers. P

              Been playing around with this for days....including Costa as well as kun makes it unbalanced and means I'm significantly weaker elsewhere.....would rather have balanced strength across the whole team.....and not convinced Costa is worth the cash.....

                I read this a while ago, just googled it to find again. It's from David Epstein's TED talk.

                Throughout sports, technology has changed the face of performance. In 1972, Eddy Merckx set the record for the longest distance cycled in one hour at 30 miles, 3,774 feet. Now that record improved and improved as bicycles improved and became more aerodynamic all the way until 1996, when it was set at 35 miles, 1,531 feet, nearly five miles farther than Eddy Merckx cycled in 1972. But then in 2000, the International Cycling Union decreed that anyone who wanted to hold that record had to do so with essentially the same equipment that Eddy Merckx used in 1972. Where does the record stand today? 30 miles, 4,657 feet, a grand total of 883 feet farther than Eddy Merckx cycled more than four decades ago. Essentially the entire improvement in this record was due to technology.
