In a season where a number of budget forwards have more than held their own with premium-priced alternatives, QPR’s Charlie Austin has arguably been the pick of the bunch. Still kindly priced at 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he sits second amongst strikers on 109 points, sandwiched in between big-hitting pair Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero on the back of 13 goals and a trio of assists in just 20 top-flight appearances.

Over the last four Gameweeks, however, Austin’s Fantasy returns have afforded his owners cause for concern. The R’s top scorer has struck just once from Gameweek 19 onwards – compared to five strikes in his previous four appearances – and with plenty of similarly priced options jostling for our attentions, we delve into the data to assess Austin’s recent displays, comparing them to both his previous performances and fellow forwards alike.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Missed the Man U game today. 0-0 couldn't have been too exciting.
    Anything I should know?
How did ADM look? Did LVG play him at top again?

      Played 4-4-2 diamond.

ADM kicked the ball, put one over the bar and had one blocked.

here's a draft I posted last night..it's pretty decent, but I think the defense is too strong..too many 'luxury' defenders on top of the premium ones..

    Foster ᵍ Myhill
    Kosc ᵈ Terry ᵈ Bertrand ᵈ Wollscheid ᵈ PvA
    Sanchez ᵐ Hazard ᵐ Ramsey ᵐ Puncheon ᵐ Lucas
    Aguero ᶠ Bojan ᶠ Costa

liking Walsh's Rambo idea and Lucas isn't a definite by any means

Ramsey has shown us absolutely nothing to justify owning him over Sanchez, Cazorla - heck even Walcott - this season.

        well I have Sanchez..

I don't see Cazorla keeping a spot at CAM with Ozil there and he's less effective outwide, it's not that I'm ruling him out, it's just that Rambo is nailed..

if Wally was fine it would definitely be him, even at his price premium, but he hasn't even started in the league yet..

I suppose I COULD keep Caz (have him now) and just have cash in the bank to shift him as necessary but yeah..

also I think Rambo benefits immensely from having the quality players, playing their positions and enjoying a run of form..he's not exactly going to spark to FPL life when the club is struggling to put forward convincing performances AND Arsene is just throwing whatever he can out there to maintain with all the injuries

    4. President John F. Keninnsie
      • 12 Years

Excellent defence, not sure Wolly is needed though. Maybe get Baird in his place to give you some extra money?

Not too sure on Rambo myself, haven't really watched Arsenal that much though so I'm not sure if he's still making those darting runs that he did last season. Could be a great differential with solid fixtures too.

Awesome forwards, Bojan is a livewire, Id probably opt for someone a bit more 'template' like Kane instead though if you do go ahead with the Ramsey punt.

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

And I agree with Innsie's point on Wollscheid...not worth the extra money I'd get Baird in his place and get JWP in for Lucas.

Have a look at Gayle over Bojan 😉

yeah would love JWP in, you convinced me there already..Lucas was just because this draft didn't have the buffer..

isn't Gayle playing wide? also not necessarily nailed if Pardew makes some signings..he does free up 0.5m more than Bojan but DAMN Stoke's fixtures are good. also even Palace's good fixtures in the next 3 are kinda tricky then they have 3 really bad ones in a row and another 2 tricky ones following QPR

          1. Walsh
            • 12 Years

Gayle and Bojan are actually the same price. Peek at the comparison tool between them over the last two games since Pardew came in. I don't agree that Palace's next three are tricky I think they are fantastic actually. It seems that the only bit of business we are still linked with is signing a left back from Lille and possibly another midfielder....I think that we are done with the forward signings after Sanogo. I think Pardew will want to play Gayle in a 442 when he can and especially at home. All he does is score when he starts. The big thing will be to see how Chamakh fits in to Pardew's plans. I think he has quite a bit of confidence in Gayle though and he has been heaping praise upon him. Says a lot that he went straight in right when Pardew took over. Again..take a look at his stats.

Bojan is easily twice as involved in the general play as Gayle but DAMN he never shoots! hmmm Gayle...if I did get him, I'm not sure who I would replace Puncheon with..that price point isn't very populated and Elia isn't nailed

could alternatively replace Kosc with Bellerin, hope for the starts and get Downing back in or keep Hendo

nvm! forgot Bojan was 5m too, think Bojan wins that 1v1 easily tbh..how long do you think Jedi will be out with Australia because then Gayle isn't on pens anymore..

Don't know regarding Jedinak but whether or not Gayle is on pens is just a bonus...he's still a clinical finisher and I think he can flourish under the more attacking brand of football Pardew is going for. He's massively underrated but if you look at his scoring rate compared to when he actually has received starts it's pretty spectacular.

is PvA going to play wingback in a 352? thought I read that on here..if that's the case then I could definitely lose Wollsh for Baird, but I'm hesitant to double up GK/def after Guzan/Hutton didn't pan out too well so far this season for me..on the flip side I could get Baird for PvA given Stoke's fixtures and not feel bad if he loses his spot because I still have Foster

        see just above on Rambo

on the forwards, I haven't sold Kane yet but their fixtures aren't great, he isn't on pens and I don't see him keeping up this form because he's been beastly DESPITE Spurs being on the whole somewhat mediocre

Don't think it matters where PvA plays...the fact of the matter is you will rarely bench any of Bertrand Koscielny or Terry anyway. Worth going cheap as chips behind them for me.

PVA playing wingback is a possibility, Poyet is experimenting with ways to get the best out of Defoe and the rest of the team. Anyway, with Terry, Kosc and Bert, and an able deputy in PVA, will you ever really play Wollscheid? I'm not so sure. T, K and B are defenders I'd be comfortable playing every week, and the 0.6 you'd get from downgrading Wollscheid will no doubt come in handy later.

His place is a bit of a worry but I think he's as nailed as any of the other budget options.

I agree more or less. I'd probably still try and find some funds to get someone else in his place...though none of the other 6.0 options really thrill me.

That's the problem innit. Puncheon the only other enticing option but then I'm not convinced he's nailed and JWP has FK duty in his locker.

AdM was pretty nailed in my thinking but I am now having second thoughts about him. Not really concerned with him blanking but for them to score zero is a problem for me. He is so expensive and I am now looking at getting Eriksen instead. The fixtures are in AdM's favor to be sure but not seeing any reason to get him really besides that at the moment.

You should probably have at least three of Costa, Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard.

And three Chelsea players - there are about six to choose from.

But he isn't essential yet IMO if you have the others.

Costa will definitely outscore Fab, question really comes down to whether the cheapie you bring in for Fab will outscore the cheapie you put upfront if you keep Fab?

Personally I went Costa and Chadli over Fab and Austin....so far it's been OK, but not great.

Absolute punt going for a Utd player now, they've proved even against weak opposition that they aren't consistent enough to back. I brought ADM on my wc last week, for practically zero return, and am keeping for the next game only. If he scores well he stays, if not (and expecting him not to) he's gone.

I certainly wouldn't be looking to bring in Utd players now.

Love it. I'd just go Foster Myhill and upgrade Kane -> Defoe 😉

    Different crowd so posting again.

    Which one would you prefer?

    A. Fonte Sterling Kane
    B. Fonte Caz Defoe
    C. Jones Sterling/Caz Defoe

If A or B, I'm doubling up SOt with Berty/Clyne

    Thoughts appreciated.
