This evening, we roll out the semi-final draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup X, as sponsored by Paddy Power, and take a look back at the key events during the quarterfinals.

With a score of 62 bobbyg emerged as the top scoring manager during the quarter-finals, which took place during Gameweek 22. He easily saw off round seven’s top scorer 66irons  to progress and earn himself £25 worth of free Paddy Power bets.

His opponent in the semi-finals will be CMIFLFC , who beat  Wolverine in the quarter-finals. CMIFLC, who has an overall rank of 5,439, has activated his wildcard this week while bobbyg, who is ranked 663rd in the overall rankings, still has his to play.

The other semi-final will feature Momalpashands, who beat mjfdept in the quarterfinals, and Harts Hotspurs, the conqueror of United Nations. This will be something of a David and Goliath clash as, with a rank of 555th in the FPL game, Momalpashands is the competition’s highest placed manager, while Harts Hotspurs is the lowest, with a rank of 297,029. Both have yet to play their wildcard. Key differences in their current teams are Harts Hotspurs’s faith in Sergio Aguero and Branislav Ivanovic, while Momalpashands will be hoping Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas will score well enough to see him through.

The full list of quarter final results can be found here, while the semi-final draw in full can be found here.

Good luck to all four managers left in the competition. In the meantime, though, if you’re looking for more information on the Scout Cup schedule and prizes available, click this link for a more thorough rundown.

Haven't been on here for a little while, so sorry if this has been asked already...

The wording of the Jan wildcard is confusing (the GW no.), but I assume by the dates that it can be used straight after the next lockout ends. Correct?

"One wildcard can be played at any time. The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (7 Feb 11:30)."

That's what I figured - I just thought it was in GW24 and not GW23 as per the description. Which is why I was just making sure.

Zouma - ‘He was very good. Playing against Sterling is something nobody enjoys, the kid is very good, very quick. Zouma coped so well with that

Ivan - Ivanovic’s boot should be put in the lobby of the Academy, so the kids can see a boot completely full of blood. His foot with the big cut and lots of stitches cannot go there, but the boot, which is white, is full of red blood and should go to the Academy, but that’s just one example.

Started to get worried when I logged on and started reading about Costa's stamps, but then someone kindly posted the clips - to me they aren't stamps at all, maybe he should've been more careful with the first one but there's very little in it. I'd be astonished if he gets any ban at all

That's better already. Stamp it was then!

Did you hear that CR7 avoided 3 match ban for red card after kicking an opponent, hitting him in the face, and slapping another opponent when he came to calm him down? Because that was not considered violent! Not partial at all no, wonder how it would have been looked at if it was the other way around.

I think they commented it immediately after the match that a 3 match ban will not even be considered because the ref reported incident as not violent.

But in fact I just read that the ref also reported no hit, so that he had not seen that hit, and Ronaldo could still get a longer ban for that. Hopefully he will. But I doubt it.

Evening all, just a quick Q regarding 5th mid dilemmas:

    A) Puncheon + Baird
    B) Moses + Wisdom
    C) Boyd + Wisdom + 0.5

    Panti
    Terry - Fonte - Jones - Bellerin - ??
    Sanchez - Haz - Fab - Caz - ??

    What do you reckon?

I feel as though given the anticipated bad weather, as well as the CHE and likely TOT/QPR blanks (which would render 5 players missing), plus the likelihood of injuries (fab from today a case in point), it can't really hurt to have some decent cover. Don't you think?

        Thanks for your thoughts!

Decent point actually. Personally I think Boyd and Baird should play and both have a chance of getting points. I'd rather rely on my first XI and then have bench people who will just fill in and save the money for investment in my XI. But I can definitely see the logic of having good back up. Different strokes and all that.

      Boyd + Baird + 1.0 🙂

You'll rarely need this defender to play and that money will come in handy when you want to upgrade Cazorla or a striker.

Hmm, not a bad idea at all. What do you reckon on the concerns I raised in response to rhino? Am I just speculating irrationally? 😛

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 10 months ago

Nah I think you'll very rarely need your 5th mid and Boyd has a good fixture in GW27 anyway so it wouldn't surprise me if he popped up with one of his trademark goals 🙂 I like having a cheap 5th mid and with Boyd being nailed on and quite attacking, he's the perfect 5th mid for me.

As for the defence, it may be a worry if Bellerin (and Baird) get dropped so I can understand if you went with Wisdom, but since you'd rarely bench one of your first three defenders then I think you'd just be stuck with the extra funds on your bench instead of in the bank, where it would give you the most flexibility.

          1. Geordienufc1
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 10 months ago

Cheers inns, I think you make a good point. I don't recall having played (or needed) my 5th mid thus far this season (albeit it was Marney for a good long while 😛 )

I'm inclined to keep wisdom though, seeing as I have had him since GW1 and he's valued at only 4.2 in my team. Given that, and the relatively low saving over Baird (.3), I think it may be worth sticking by him for the extra security.

            Thanks bud!

Yeah sounds good, 0.3 isn't a big saving as you say. In that case, I'd consider just getting a cheapie for Bellerin as I think he'll be rotated with Chambers and trust me, there will be a stage this season where you'll wish you had that extra 0.5m in the bank 🙂

Quite punty, for sure. Sturridge an interesting pick, not one I'd be too keen on myself given his lengthy lay-off, but could be a good differential if you're interested in taking the risk. Walcott another I'm not convinced by yet, given his high uncertainty of starts. Rest looks standard, which is good 😛

Liking that strong forward line. Not sure about JWP as with the likely blanks, and anticipated bad weather a nailed on 5th mid looks important for me, and I don't think he fits that criteria. Tactic of doubling up on key (and cheap) defenses could work out well, though if there are fixture postponements there could be difficulties.

All in all a good strong team, with just a few minor aspects of concern.

If Dirty Diego doesn't receive a ban for those 2 stamps on Can and Skrtel then I will be really surprised. Absolute shocker .. I hate it when a player stamps on another .. Just as dirty as spitting on someone. He is a nasty piece of work.

What is the best way to handle the Chelsea and Tottenham blank gameweek 27 when approaching your wildcard?

I am making the assumption that Tottenham get through tonight. Presumably that would also mean blanks for two other teams?

The key is to have zero players from QPR, Leicester and Spurs which means you dont have to sacrifice your Chelsea players. Also ensure your bench can all play.

    Morning all

great game last night, as a Pool fan very angry that Balotelli's lack of marking cost us. But can't argue with our performance. If we keep this level of play up and Sturridge remains injury free could be a good end to the season.

Costa, Costa.. Costa... What an angry man. Will he be punished for the stamp(s)? I don't think so

Coutinho is such a quality player, but I think Sterling has the higher chance of points.

With Long out & Tadic out of favour/coming back from injury he should be ok for next few weeks

    Just seen highlights on sky

Costa should have had a penalty but he is pure filth. Malicious and not a nice player.
He looked down when stamping on skrtel for certain. Why is it necessary with all that talent? Just let goals do the talking surely?

Henderson was a lucky boy not to go for a second yellow on handball

You nailed it mate. Filth and malicious.
If he does not get any sort of ban then I hope other refs keep a good eye on him from now on..

Chelsea fans - is there a chance Zouma could get a run in the team ahead of Cahill?

    4.6 is mighty tempting.

Another reason why Aguero is a better player than DIrty Diego.
Kun would never do that to another player.

Did he do it twice in one game ?
Everyone loses there cool now and then . That does not mean it's right I know,
But we all know this is not the first time Costa has does this kinda thing he is known for his temper and always having a dig at people.

Kun is the better striker all day long ..

Costa is always looking for a fight and is just a horrible person .. Yesterday proved that

This is true. Though the original comment that he has never done anything of a similar nature is incorrect, given the aforementioned incidents^, Kun is not a dirty player.

Costa on the other hand has a long and chequered disciplinary history.

Even if Costa isn't banned, surely other refs will now be on high alert for any similar antics. He's definitely due a red card.

    Apologies if posted already, but:

Former Prem ref Mark Halsey has said IF Michael Oliver DIDN'T see the Costa incidents & filed in report, he believes he will receive a retrospective ban
