This evening, we roll out the semi-final draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup X, as sponsored by Paddy Power, and take a look back at the key events during the quarterfinals.

With a score of 62 bobbyg emerged as the top scoring manager during the quarter-finals, which took place during Gameweek 22. He easily saw off round seven’s top scorer 66irons  to progress and earn himself £25 worth of free Paddy Power bets.

His opponent in the semi-finals will be CMIFLFC , who beat  Wolverine in the quarter-finals. CMIFLC, who has an overall rank of 5,439, has activated his wildcard this week while bobbyg, who is ranked 663rd in the overall rankings, still has his to play.

The other semi-final will feature Momalpashands, who beat mjfdept in the quarterfinals, and Harts Hotspurs, the conqueror of United Nations. This will be something of a David and Goliath clash as, with a rank of 555th in the FPL game, Momalpashands is the competition’s highest placed manager, while Harts Hotspurs is the lowest, with a rank of 297,029. Both have yet to play their wildcard. Key differences in their current teams are Harts Hotspurs’s faith in Sergio Aguero and Branislav Ivanovic, while Momalpashands will be hoping Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas will score well enough to see him through.

The full list of quarter final results can be found here, while the semi-final draw in full can be found here.

Good luck to all four managers left in the competition. In the meantime, though, if you’re looking for more information on the Scout Cup schedule and prizes available, click this link for a more thorough rundown.

    Apologies if posted already, but:

Former Prem ref Mark Halsey has said IF Michael Oliver DIDN'T see the Costa incidents & NOT filed in report, he believes he will receive a retrospective ban

    1. Geordienufc1
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

That would seem likely. Other players (aguero stamp on noble - link on previous page) have escaped retrospective action because the referee saw the incident and acted on it in game. Given that the ref appeared to see neither, and it is surmised that he would have acted (at very least a yellow on both occasions) had he seen them, Costa should get a ban.

Having said all that, he plays for Chelsea so by some miraculous coincidence, he'll escape action.

      😐

Mark Halsey as an ex official should know he should keep his stupid gob shut until any official action has been taken.
      Disgraceful behaviour.

    Foster (Hamer)
    Terry Bellerin Trippier (PVA, Wisdom)
    Sanchez Cazorla Eriksen Elia (Boyd)
    Falcao Giroud Costa

Plan is to do Falcao--->Aguero after this week, and then bring in Oscar for Cazorla for 3 Chelsea.

I was trying with the Falcao punt too (possible capt even) but with rvp fit again and lvg being full on deranged and somehow managing to do as bad as Moyes after spending 160m I think it might be a punt too far

    A) Hazard & Kane > Giroud and Oscar -4
    B) Keep Kane
    C) Kane > any other forward up to 5.9 (Already have Puncheon so not sure im keen on Gayle)

9 goals scored so far and he's hardly had a run

    4. Geordienufc1
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

He'll play. Yet, even as a fan, I just wouldn't want him in my team. He does his best work when he doesn't have to think. The problems start as soon as he has to actually move to score.

I've got no idea how he has managed 9 goals this season (not complaining though 😛 ), as Ayoze has looked an immeasurably better player.

Ayoze might be a better dribbler and link player but cisse movement off the ball to find space and get on the end of crosses is probably the best in the epl (between him and Falcao imo). Cisse is a natural finisher too, when his confidence is up there aren't many better in epl.

Ayoze is a decent prospect but I have no interest from.an fpl perspective. I don't even think he should be starting for toon. Two goals and one assist in the last 11 games is not epl quality forward.

Not much in either of the stamps last night imo but both sore for the guys in the receiving end who did well not to react and get sent off which is what Costa tries to do.
He spends the whole game committing niggly fouls like standing on toes, brushing elbows and hands in people's faces at every opportunity and even the grapple where he pushed gerro over then held him down for a split second while he tried to get to his feet again was a calculated act to wind him up.

While a lot of these actions are not red cards I think the rule is pretty clear on stamps with plenty of cases where retrospective bans have been handed out.

Can made a bit of a meal of it, to be fair. Skrtel's not one for simulation, though - I think he sees it as a sign of weakness.

      1. Skipdipper
        • 14 Years

No justification for costa's actions though
He's malicious. If this were Rooney, Suarez or someone like joey Barton they'd have been banned by now!

          True.

He does seem to get away with more but probably because nothing he does is outright violent. It is always just enough to hurt without breaking. He is all about the windup

        Yeah I agree.

Pity he doesn't try and do something about his real sign of weakness, his terrible defending 😆

Tbf pool have looked v solid recently with sakho and can either side of skertl and Lucas in def mid with Henderson. They started to get opened up last night when gerro went back cm after lazar came off and Johnson came on to play left cb.

Yeah I completely agree. He tries (and succeeds) at hiding his niggly fouls and actions. He doesn't do it in every game, though.

    3. culverwood
      • 14 Years

Isn't committing niggly fouls to wind up forwards what any decent defender does all the time for exactly the same reason.

It is but defenders are frustrated forwards trapped in bodies that don't have the skill to play up front. Despite this there are not as many as blatantly aggressive in their attempts to put the strikers off their game as Costa is.

I don't think there is as much of an advantage in trying to put the defenders off their game as putting a striker off either and to be doing what he did last night with a crucial league game coming up on Saturday is just plane insanity.

Yeah, it's a shame he isn't a consistent finisher. I don't even think they should rely on Sturridge either..he'll limp off again for sure. Are they not looking for another striker and get rid of Balo ?

I suspect a big part of the Bony transfer to City was for the very same reason.Just like Sturridge situation Aguero is just too injury prone...sad but true....One of the top players in the world and yet Austin gives him a run for his money for goals scored....and that's the bottom line.

Currently on Costa + Cazorla for WC.. Does it make sense to swap to Giroud + Oscar and also save myself a couple of million?

I would be tempted to do Giroud + Cazorla..Arsenal looking dangerous

Who will most likely fill in for Debuchy? Bellerin or Chambers?

They will compete, but atm I am sure Bellerin will start against Villa also because Chambers played in the FA Cup.

Both IMO...Both are young players and there's no need to over play either of them.

it's a legit q-if your unsure you don't have to answer,
It's for a draft game where rules are a little different.

I am calm, it's just the thought of relegation has me vexed!
Outside of draft games it's possible Victor could be a decent pick granted tho I'd take Bera over him.

There's Muniesa at the back who could be an excellent pick for Stoke's run if he slot back into the lineup as expected. Up front there's some potential with Chamakh who has some form going with 2 goals in his last game as well. Sanogo an alternative.

The cheeky picks are a little rare atm. Unfortunately, my cheeky Bojan pick (just before his first goal 😉 ) has to finally leave my team. 🙁 Zaha and Gayle could be steals if they haven't already been picked up in yoru league. Diouf once he's back, and also Walters if still a FA. Borini is another solid one. Finally an outside Cabella pick could be alright.

Hopefully no one in my league sees this 😛 You in HOH's league mate?

Ah, used to be in that league! Then I got kicked out after I disappeared from FPL as a whole. My fault. 😛 Now I'm fighting it out in div 2, and was in a promotion spot before my Nepal trip! Now in 7th and clawing my way back.

No worries mate, best of luck!

Sorry, posted on the wrong thread:

    Would you rather have:

    A) Kane, for WBA away and Arsenal at home.
    B) Giroud, for Aston Villa at home and Tottenham away

Yeah, I might jump off the Kane wagon now.

A ever-improving West Brom away, then Arsenal and Liverpool doesn't read too well.
