The final day of the winter transfer window was largely uneventful, with only Chelsea prepared to spend big to bolster their title bid. Here’s a quick rundown on the main deals that went through by 11pm, with Scout Reports and Moving Target features to follow over the next few days.

Juan Cuadrado – Fiorentina to Chelsea
With Andre Schurrle leaving for Wolfsburg earlier in the day, Jose Mourinho boosted his options in the final third by snapping up the Colombian from Fiorentina as Mo Salah headed out to the Serie A side on loan. Versatile enough to play in any of the three attacking midfield slots, Cuadrado’s best hopes of barging into the Blues’ first XI could be on the right flank at the expense of Willian, who has managed just a single goal and assist in 22 league appearances. Cuadrado arrives on the back of four goals and as many assists in Serie A this season but whilst he may manage to get past Willian on the right, he faces a tougher challenge to oust Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar in our Fantasy affections. Coming in at 8.5, he’s slightly more expensive than Oscar (8.4) ahead of showdowns against Villa, Everton and Burnley in the next three.

Robert Huth – Stoke to Leicester
Having played just four minutes for Stoke this season, it’s fair to say that a loan move to the King Power Stadium should boost the German’s chances of greater pitch time. The Foxes have been far from resilient so far and managed just four clean sheets – given that skipper Wes Morgan has played all but one league match, there’s a fear that the 4.7-priced Huth’s arrival could threaten Marcin Wasilewski’s run of 14 straight starts and potentially deprive us of a 4.0-priced starter in our 15-man squads. Banned for Gameweek 24, Huth then faces three difficult road trips (ars, eve, mci) with a blank Gameweek 27 prior to his visit to the Etihad. With three goals and an assist to his name, though, Jeffrey Schlupp’s out of position potential on the left flank has already served up three goals and the Ghanaian, at 4.5, is the most appealing option here.

Wilfried Zaha and Lee Chung-yong – Man United and Bolton to Crystal Palace
Zaha’s loan deal at Selhurst Park was made permanent by Alan Pardew after he failed to convince at United, whilst Lee joins in a deal that sees Barry Bannan move to the Reebok on loan. Despite praising Zaha’s recent loan displays, the new Eagles boss has started him in just one of his first three Gameweeks in charge and turned to the 5.1-priced midfielder as an impact sub late on in matches. Although Yannick Bolasie could potentially still be out of the picture for two more league outings, Pardew also has Dwight Gayle and Jason Puncheon offering alternatives out wide, suggesting Zaha and Lee face a struggle to nail down a spot in the XI. For now, Puncheon’s two goals and an assist in three under Pardew has made the biggest impression. Over 85,000 snapped him up last week ahead of upcoming clashes with Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham and QPR in the next six, though the Eagles’ numerous options out wide clearly offer Pardew the option to chop and change.

Filip Duricic – Benfica to Southampton
Having sold Jack Cork to Swansea on Friday, Ronald Koeman bolstered his central midfield options by acquiring the Serbian on loan from Benfica until the end of the season. An attacking midfielder, Duricic has fallen out of favour at his parent club and failed to impress at a loan stint with Mainz 05 earlier this season, with no goals or assists over 11 appearances. His arrival merely adds to Koeman’s options out wide, though, and with Dusan Tadic, Sadio Mane and Eljero Elia all vying for the spots on the flanks, Duricic faces a tough task to break into the Saints’ XI.

Aaron Lennon – Tottenham to Everton
Roberto Martinez bolstered his attacking options by snapping up the Tottenham winger on loan until the end of the season. A peripheral figure at the Lane, Lennon has played just eight minutes from Gameweek 15 onwards and he’ll be hoping a move to Goodison can reignite his flagging career. At 6.2, he’s cheaper than Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley, but with the likes of Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith also offering Roberto Martinez options on the right, it remains to be seen whether he can nail down a regular role in his new surrounds.

Davide Santon – Newcastle to Inter Milan
The Italian’s loan return to his native country lessens the competition at left-back for Newcastle under John Carver. Santon has failed to break into the Magpies’ XI since recovering from injury and the new man in charge has instead turned to Massadio Haidara in the last two matches. At just 4.1, Haidara strengthened his case for a regular role by serving up an assist in the weekend win at Hull, serving up an 11-point return in the process. Next up, it’s Stoke, Palace and Villa in the following four.

    What do I do?

    Foster/Panti
    PvA/Wisdom/Terry/Wasil/Bertrand
    Sanchez/Downing/Hazard/ADM/Albrighton
    Costa/Aguero/Kane

    1 FT. 2.6 ITB

    Thinking of doing Downing + Bertrand -----> Silva + 5.1? Good idea?

      In a similar situation to you mate with a similar team.

      I'm doing Downing -> Sterling for free this week (Can't afford Silva but wouldn't want him anyway) and keeping Bertrand this week.

      Then for next week, I plan on doing Bertrand -> Bellerin before the latter has Leicester at home.

        Nick - Silva is still a better option than Agüero this week, imo.

              OK - but using the last 4 matches is always going to be weighted against Aguero - hobbling off after 6 mins in one of them and a 20 min cameo in another.

                Maybe so, but he is really not on form. And experience has shown me that you need that weight of match, even at the risk of missing a haul.

                That last match - he was all over the shop. The assist was very lucky. I still have him, by the way.

          I'd get Silva in this week for a one week punt yes, but even though Citeh have good fixtures I just don't see him being a good option.

          He flourished in the false 9 role but has never been a consistent option with a proper striker in front of him - just look at his points earlier in the season.

            Maybe - but in my opinion, it doesn't actually work like that.

            I like him most when he buzzes round the edge of the box, as he is doing now. One more week to go!

        Is Bellerin even nailed? Sterling away at West Ham could prove difficult.

          First choice, not nailed. Worth the punt anyway at that price, imo.

          He is away at everton, tough on paper but you'd expect Liverpool to score and with Sturridge back (and already firing) Sterling is a better medium to long term option imo.

    January Top 10

    Wildcard Use

    GW21 = 0
    GW22 = 7th
    GW23 = 1,2,5,6,8,9,10th
    GW24 = 3rd and 4th

    Not a surprise but seeing 2 non WCers up there, GW21s and GW22s must be disappointed.

    Morning gents,

    Good week last week, looking to keep up the momentum and push for top 10k. Current team:

    Panti / Krul

    PVA / Terry / Wasi / Bellerin / Wisdom

    Sanchez / Haz / Di Maria / Puncheon / Boyd

    Aguero / Giroud / Kane

    2.6m ITB, 1 FT

    I'm thinking to hold off and wait for Sanchez news and if he's out then i can't see him making the leicester game either so will reluctantly take him out for Wally.

    Any other suggestions if he's fit? Save? Use it to get rid of Wasi maybe?

    Cheers,

    Hi all; I've realised I can make my novel free for five days, so you can get your Kindle copy for absolutely nothing. I put a lot of work into it, and just want it to be read, and it will take you one click and cost nothing at all. I would appreciate it greatly if you would get a copy (it's also available on International Amazon sites).

    My WC team:

    Krul -- Foster
    Ivan // Toby // P.Jones // PvA // Bellerin
    Haz // Ozil // Eriksen // Mane // Ameobi
    Aguero // Sturridge // Berahino

    Hoping Bellerin reaches 4.5 by saturday morning and I can do Bellerin --> Wolls

      I would have Kane instead of Berahino
      Cazorla instead of Ozil
      Eriksen is a good pick but am not sold on Mane.

        I prefer Ozil to Cazorla
        have Eriksen don't want to double up on Spurs..maybe will get him before DGW...
        Mane is punt..can downgrade him and have two 5m players rotating

    What FA cup games affect the chances of Chelsea having a double GW in GW28

      I think if Leicester loose their cup tie to villa then Chelsea could have a DGW28. But I think Chelsea will resist it since they have a champions league match a few days later. I'd expect the CHE LEI game to be played much later in the season.

      1. Pasqualinho

        I think Chelsea would rather it be in GW28. If they stay in Europe (which I'm sure they'll plan to) then it'll only get more difficult for them the longer the season goes on.

      Ouch, what part of the country/world are you in? I've seen the first proper bit of snow in London today.

      Team looks good, I'd probably save unless Sanchez is ruled out for a while. Maybe look to shift Austin to Kane, but Austin has the better fixture this week.

            Yeah i agree. Want to play him this week. He was rotating with aj but i've abandoned it for mane.
            Mate trippier and pva come as a pair as far as i'm concerned. Every week you get one of the most attacking defenders in the league with a plum home fixture

        See above. Ings is just stuck in the ether for now since i'm opting for mane over the rotation. Doesn't bother me if he scores on my bench. I don't own him unless one of my starters is out.

    Decision made. Head overruled heart. Sold Sanchez even though he is the best player in EPL and who I bought cheap and will definitely buy him back when he starts a game.

    Head says never to wait for a hammy to heal. Meanwhile he will drop 0.2 each week, and a 11.4m white elephant on the bench.

    Also, with Gru, Rambo, Theo and Ozil back Sanchez will no longer play OOP as striker, and his teammates will have other outlets than passing to him.
