The final day of the winter transfer window was largely uneventful, with only Chelsea prepared to spend big to bolster their title bid. Here’s a quick rundown on the main deals that went through by 11pm, with Scout Reports and Moving Target features to follow over the next few days.

Juan Cuadrado – Fiorentina to Chelsea
With Andre Schurrle leaving for Wolfsburg earlier in the day, Jose Mourinho boosted his options in the final third by snapping up the Colombian from Fiorentina as Mo Salah headed out to the Serie A side on loan. Versatile enough to play in any of the three attacking midfield slots, Cuadrado’s best hopes of barging into the Blues’ first XI could be on the right flank at the expense of Willian, who has managed just a single goal and assist in 22 league appearances. Cuadrado arrives on the back of four goals and as many assists in Serie A this season but whilst he may manage to get past Willian on the right, he faces a tougher challenge to oust Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar in our Fantasy affections. Coming in at 8.5, he’s slightly more expensive than Oscar (8.4) ahead of showdowns against Villa, Everton and Burnley in the next three.

Robert Huth – Stoke to Leicester
Having played just four minutes for Stoke this season, it’s fair to say that a loan move to the King Power Stadium should boost the German’s chances of greater pitch time. The Foxes have been far from resilient so far and managed just four clean sheets – given that skipper Wes Morgan has played all but one league match, there’s a fear that the 4.7-priced Huth’s arrival could threaten Marcin Wasilewski’s run of 14 straight starts and potentially deprive us of a 4.0-priced starter in our 15-man squads. Banned for Gameweek 24, Huth then faces three difficult road trips (ars, eve, mci) with a blank Gameweek 27 prior to his visit to the Etihad. With three goals and an assist to his name, though, Jeffrey Schlupp’s out of position potential on the left flank has already served up three goals and the Ghanaian, at 4.5, is the most appealing option here.

Wilfried Zaha and Lee Chung-yong – Man United and Bolton to Crystal Palace
Zaha’s loan deal at Selhurst Park was made permanent by Alan Pardew after he failed to convince at United, whilst Lee joins in a deal that sees Barry Bannan move to the Reebok on loan. Despite praising Zaha’s recent loan displays, the new Eagles boss has started him in just one of his first three Gameweeks in charge and turned to the 5.1-priced midfielder as an impact sub late on in matches. Although Yannick Bolasie could potentially still be out of the picture for two more league outings, Pardew also has Dwight Gayle and Jason Puncheon offering alternatives out wide, suggesting Zaha and Lee face a struggle to nail down a spot in the XI. For now, Puncheon’s two goals and an assist in three under Pardew has made the biggest impression. Over 85,000 snapped him up last week ahead of upcoming clashes with Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham and QPR in the next six, though the Eagles’ numerous options out wide clearly offer Pardew the option to chop and change.

Filip Duricic – Benfica to Southampton
Having sold Jack Cork to Swansea on Friday, Ronald Koeman bolstered his central midfield options by acquiring the Serbian on loan from Benfica until the end of the season. An attacking midfielder, Duricic has fallen out of favour at his parent club and failed to impress at a loan stint with Mainz 05 earlier this season, with no goals or assists over 11 appearances. His arrival merely adds to Koeman’s options out wide, though, and with Dusan Tadic, Sadio Mane and Eljero Elia all vying for the spots on the flanks, Duricic faces a tough task to break into the Saints’ XI.

Aaron Lennon – Tottenham to Everton
Roberto Martinez bolstered his attacking options by snapping up the Tottenham winger on loan until the end of the season. A peripheral figure at the Lane, Lennon has played just eight minutes from Gameweek 15 onwards and he’ll be hoping a move to Goodison can reignite his flagging career. At 6.2, he’s cheaper than Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley, but with the likes of Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith also offering Roberto Martinez options on the right, it remains to be seen whether he can nail down a regular role in his new surrounds.

Davide Santon – Newcastle to Inter Milan
The Italian’s loan return to his native country lessens the competition at left-back for Newcastle under John Carver. Santon has failed to break into the Magpies’ XI since recovering from injury and the new man in charge has instead turned to Massadio Haidara in the last two matches. At just 4.1, Haidara strengthened his case for a regular role by serving up an assist in the weekend win at Hull, serving up an 11-point return in the process. Next up, it’s Stoke, Palace and Villa in the following four.

    Thoughts on WC so far:

    Panty, Myhill
    Terry, Clichy, PVA, Bellerin, Wisdom
    Fabregas, hazard, Carzola, silva, Walters
    Ageuro, Austin, Kane

    4.3m in the bank.

    1. Should I bring in Eriksen for one of my mids?
    2. Any other players needed?

    Cheers gang 🙂

You should only have 3 players that blank in GW27 and plan to save a transfer to be able to have 5 in GW28.

+1 Lei, QPR, Che, Spu all affected by the bank GW 27. Keep an eye on that Torres, and plan accordingly if you have 3 players from those teams (i.e save a transfer the week before)

Sanchez, Cazorla, Hazard, Silva and Downing.

On a WC so am thinking i'll shift Downing > Walters (for the rises) and possibly Sanchez if he is out again.

    couple of quick questions:
    1) sanchez or cazorla on WC? --- any injury update on sanchez?
    2) Giroud the best 3rd striker alongside kun and kane? cant think of anyone else...unless i go 3-5-2 with a super cheap striker..so basically
    A: giroud + marney
    B: caz + barnes

        def not jwp...too much risk.

amoebi not a bad optino but faces rotation with gouffran.

am leaning towards lucas or ideally finding the funds for colback/walters

Just a couple of options for you tonight if you'd be so kind!

    Forster, Foster
    PVA, Naughton, Wollscheid, XXXX, XXXX
    Haz, Sanchez, Caz, Cork, XXXX
    Aguero, Kane, XXXX

    A: Zouma, Clyne, Silva, Giroud
    B: Bellerin, Alderweireld, Oscar, Sturridge

Not sure about triple Arsenal attack in A when Bellerin is such good value.

I don't like the idea of triple on Arsenal attack. Nor do I think Zouma is a good piece to fit in that back given the already lightweight three you've got. Although, I guess Bellerin does provide considerable risk. Why not be bold and go with Mane? Could beef up the defense if you went that route as well.

That was my other option that I'd listed last night. Allowed me to get Azpi over Zouma. Not sure though, could be some rotation there with 3 players for 2 spots + even Djuricic now and there are too many good mids at the moment so someone of Oscar's price or more allows for easy transfers. I do agree the defence is quire dodgy though, not too thrilled about it!

            1. Walsh
              • 12 Years
              11 years, 3 months ago

Djuricic sounds very much like squad depth signing to me. I think that is fairly obvious to all that Mane is Southampton's most threatening attacking player, and I think Koeman will start him unequivocally now that he is back from ACON for good so I do not share your concerns for his gametime. I just think that having five solid defenders is very tough to manage during January WC since when you tinker you can create all these insane front 8 options with a thin defense but having five nailed on defenders to be able to rely on through unpredictable game cancellations and blanks and such things I feel like is very beneficial.

Also love the idea of Sturridge as a big time source of differential points if you get him in now. I think it's a very short matter of time before he's in everyone's team. Think there is a lot of potential to rise in the rankings with him.

At the same time though I really don't want Giroud as Bellerin is exceptional value and the Arsenal mids are all just so awesome. Welbeck back soon as well.

Hm hadn't seen anything like that. A bit concerning then, of course, as spending 11m on a 30 minute player is a non-starter....back to the drawing boards I guess 🙂

They have FA cup replay though so surely that's another cameo, maybe one more vs Everton then surely he starts? Could always punt on Falcao for 2 GWs and switch after but United are cack. May risk Sturridge, will see what Rodgers says prior to the weekend.

He's got the big four of Hazard, Giroud, Alexis, and Aguero but behind that it seems to be a unique combination of the rest of his side. They are all on the "list" that we all seem to adhere to but I don't feel like I've seen a team very close to it at all.

Solid side Disable, you're set up very nicely for the GW blanks and it's very sweet rotatable side. I wouldn't worry too much about the Moses blank fwiw, still has the better stas of the two and Douf back may haunt Walter's FPL potential IMO

      Really dig the midfield

Problem is, QPR are quite good attacking wise at home, so I think they might struggle to keep a clean sheet this weekend. Then Liverpool the week after. Plus they might be unbalanced without Bert. Is a Sot defender the way to go..?

All good points. But at 4.9 I think Toby offers great value.

Cant go double Arsenal, need their attackers! Ah yes, Clyne, I should have listed him. I have the money for Ivan and I like the chance of attacking returns from him so not keen on Azpi.

Martin Olsson didn't join WBA after all due to the player failing to agree terms - he wanted an escape clause in his contract if West Brom got relegated.

I've no idea why Pulis won't play Pocognoli at left-back, as he's by far West Brom's best player in the position.

This is the plan for the weekend. I've got 1.6 in the bank so if looks like Sanchez is out I can upgrade Brady to someone decent. Good to go?
