The midweek matches proved frustrating viewing for many in the Fantasy Football Scout community, with some notable, well-owned players failing to deliver. We look back at the ensuing hand-wringing and also discover how Fantasy managers’ loved ones suffer when a Gameweek fails to go to plan. As usual, we take a peek at the latest ups and downs in the community leagues, whilst there’s also a range of Members tables to delve into and hot topics assessing how to get the best out of the remaining 13 round of fixtures.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster was among those who endured a torrid Gameweek 25 with all three of his differentials failing to garner anything beyond appearance points. Triggerlips didn’t have the best of weeks in defence, but as his analysis of ‘hindsight bias’ shows, it is all too easy to declare that a decision is a mistake after the event.

In contrast, Gameweek 25’s Scout Pick Champion Reedy had much better fortune, with his XI that included Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil leaving two out of three of our Scouts in the shade.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Gameweek 25 was an unpleasant set of fixtures for many of the community, particularly those captaining Alexis Sanchez, who failed to bring in the points at home to Leicester. Already, though some in the community are dusting themselves off and moving on to look ahead to the upcoming fixtures and a chance to claw back some respectability. Cabaye4 was on hand to look over the confirmed and potential double Gameweeks left this season, as was Perchinho in his hot topic on forthcoming fixtures. To help plan ahead, Siva Mohan provided this round up of the key fixtures coming up, including FA Cup and European ties.

A look at the upcoming fixtures could prove vital to correcting any mistakes made in the January winter wildcards. As JK’s discussion showed, there were plenty feeling glum about their wildcard choices, though some have good reason to gloat.

Those that opted for a Liverpool player have certainly been rewarded so far, with Brendan Rodgers’ unit scoring ten times and keeping four clean sheets over the last six Gameweeks. Zasa says their focus on a crowded midfield has been key to this, but he wonders whether cracks in the so far successful 3-4-2-1 formation are starting to show?

Harry Kane has been another roaring success for Wildcarders. The Tottenham striker has three double digit Fantasy Premier League hauls in the last four Gameweeks but despite his recent superb form, Berbinho’s Forehead still wonders whether the Spurs man is the real deal.

Barry Yuen also has reservations, this time about Alexis Sanchez’ ability to remain a key asset after he let down Fantasy managers this week. Black Knights was another to question the Chilean’s ability after revealing that his disappointing transfer and captaincy of the Arsenal man ruined a romantic meal with his girlfriend. The ensuring conversation revealed that he is not the only one to have their love life curtailed by Fantasy Football.

There were plenty more forlorn figures this week in Jafooli’s strugglers’ surgery, as the community joined  him to look back on their toils this season. For HVT, such Gameweeks are making him question his commitment to Fantasy Football, which is a theme RoysCallerAnne revisited later in the week. For all of our downtrodden community, members Rhinos posted this welcome pick-me-up with five golden rules to keeping the faith in Fantasy Football, even when it can seem the cruelest of games.

Finally, Sinik came up with a drastic solution to beating the failed captaincy blues, simply do away with captains in Fantasy Football altogether. After this week there will be plenty of attentive ears to this suggestion.

The Members Tables

Fortunesalwayshiding has been taking a look at Stoke’s attacking threat. With the Potters’ fixtures still strong this will prove crucial reading for those looking for a differential in the coming weeks.

Goalkeeping attributes were the focus of Jonah11’s table. This has a universal search filter to give the most up to date analysis as well as long term figures. Chuiku2 has also been looking at defensive statistics to discover more about the teams with the best backlines in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The “Long and Winding Road FA Cup of Tea” launched in Gameweek 25. Check out those who made it through to Gameweek 26’s round of matches here.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Walsh and Albertini hit the top score in Gameweek 25 with 76. There are now 367 teams left after 46 were eliminated

Aaron Thorburn has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season and is now up to 18th in the overall FPL rankings. Following Gameweek 25’s games Red Lightning’s FFS January Wildcard League (352700-723212) is led by The Suspended One, who has risen from 623,000 to 144,000 in the FPL overall rankings since Gameweek 20.

You've potentially 5 players who blank, but the CHE blank is not confirmed yet so as of now only 2. No need to panic, plan what you'd like to do to field 11, or leave as is

If you only have 1 FT, rather than take the obvious line of a hit by removing two the five, just remove 1, play 10 and hope that all the others play. you'll then be in good shape to gain in GW28.

I assume Bony is new - not a legacy from weeks ago .....

Bony was a result of too many beers last night and a bet with a mate that he will outscore fragile Kun to from GW 26 till the end of the season.

As a Celtic man I dont like to praise Rangers menat all. But if I was in charge of Villa right now, I'd have been tempted to ask Walter Smith to take the job till the end of the season just to avoid relegation and consider a longer term manager after that.

Smith led Rangers to their historical 9 in a row which, even by Scottish sfandards, is not easy done. Only Jock Stein done it before (Stein won all 9 though). Smith then returned to a cash strapped Rangers and won 3 league titles in a row in 08-09, 09-10 and 10-11. And not forgetting his over achieving Uefa Cup runner up spot during that spell where he eliminated some good sides like Fiorentina, Sporting Lisbon, Werder Bremen and Panathanikos. Smith also once had Rangers go unbeaten in the Champions League almost getting to the final that year. A year where he knocked the English champions Leeds out.

And as Scotland manager, he took our FIFA ranking up 70 places. We beat France in France and drew with italy in our Euro qualyfying group under him. That was just after both got to the 2006 world cup final.

He has managed a similarsized club in the premier league too, although his time at Everton was mediocre. Saying that, he never got relegated. He has also been Fergies assistant at Man Utd and has decades of experience and as he showed with Scotland and the Rangers Uefa Cup team, he can grind out results with a limited set of players.

This to me is what you need if your is serious danger of relegation. An experienced manager who knows the division and speaks the language. Cant be an Italian etc. Not at this stage. Cant be someone who has no proven ability as a manager and no experience of handling pressure. Sherwood got the job on a "who else is there?" basis. Villa could seriously become the next Leeds I think. They really should have went with safer hands than a novice like Sherwood. Honestly think Smith would've been a far smarter pick. Just pay him decent money till June, say "keep us up and theres a bonus" and he'd have taken the job.

Since Mourinho came back to Chelsea we have made a net profit on transfers and are easily inside FFP (unlike Liverpool and City).

Comments like these get bandied about without much reference to the facts sometimes.

The game has changed since Jock Stein's day. But I'd put him in the top 3 British managers of all time, alongside Clough and Ferguson.

Aye but its hardly like he's managing a side on a low budget.
Chelseas side and wage bill is one of the costliest in world football.
Jose has that to win here, inter were similar in italy, and Real the same in spain where he never really succeeded. Simeone at Atletico doing much better on lesserbudget there.

Porto champions league win was over achieving though.

                  Mourinho at Porto
                  Ferguson at Aberdeen

Both went on to manage clubs with huge budgets but showed they could do without first.

As for Spain, I think that's a peculiar reading of history. He cracked the best team of the 21st Century (Barcelona at their pomp), broke Guardiola and set the record points total in La Liga in the process.

                  And I wouldn't call 2 CL semi-finals in 2 seasons failure either.

Yeah, because Chelsea were feeding on scraps for the years before Jose took over in his second stint....chelseas net profit now is great but is built on overspending for several years prior to when the FFP rules were put in place.

Exactly. Chelsea probably more than anyone led to FFP being created. I still remember the Chelsea of 20 years ago. Michael Dubery, John Spencer etc. To me, thats the real Chelsea. Until Roman arrived, they werent even contenders for the title

                    Premier League finishing positions in the 7 seasons before Roman: 6th, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 6th, 4th.

We qualified for Europe in 6 of those 7 seasons.

I don't think you get to define what "the real Chelsea" is. Maybe you are a Liverpool fan? If so you probably imagine that Liverpool is still a top European club. 😉

Shearer pretty much went straight into managing Newcastle with zero experience didn't he? Sherwood did OK in the 6 months as spurs manager and he did good things in the youth set up there too. A big thing is that he will give youth a chance at Villa. The biggest negative with Sherwood is that he talks a lot of nonsense. Didn't walter Smith get sacked at Everton years ago? Managing a EPL team is completely different to managing in Scotland

I dont think it is. Ferguson over achieved at Aberdeen winning league titles and a cup winners cup. That was an indication he was a special manager. And he proved that in england. Managers are what they are wherever they go.

Sherwoods record at spurs was worse than his predecessor and successor. If he repeats that, Villa go down.

I'm talking about the league only..avbs record is padded by Europa results. Last season:
                    AVB - 16 games, 8 wins, 3 draws, 5 defeats.
                    Sherwood - 22 games, 13 wins, 3 draws, 6 defeats.
Sherwood has a greater win record in the league than Avb had in his entire spurs career

But if you select like that, I could say the season before, AVB set the highest points total ever to miss top 4 and got 72 points. Sherwood had most of that season and still finished behind Everton.

That's a pointless random point you've raised...simply put that with the same squad, Sherwood performed better in the league..its that simple

How can you compare different seasons? There are so many variables. The fairest comparison is to compare how they did last season..avb also had Two seasons at spurs playing easier early round fixtures in europa. Sherwood had to deal with the knockout round fixtures. Your arguments are weak. At the end of the day, its the league where Sherwood will be judged so league results should matter more. Sherwood might fail but nothing you've said backs that.

He has no reason to merit the villa job same way he had none for spurs job. To get these jobs managers should be learning their trade from lower leagues up. Villa will go down. Sherwood made an ar5e out of himself frequently. He wont get anything out of this villa side. Id say you compare overall record as ABV had tougher job in league due to midweek ties every week. Sherwood never really had to contend with that. He took the job on after the group stages. A lot easier to beat likes of hull and west ham when your side are fresh than when theyve been away in russia midweek as avb had to contend with.

No one is meriting him but you and a few others are unfairly criticising him. Avb also had easier europa fixtures where he was able to rotate his squad more than Sherwood did/ could given the standard of opposition. Its clear that logic won't matter here as youve decided that Sherwood isn't good enough. This is Villa we are talking about. A side who have flirted with relegation for the last few seasons. The likelihood that they could have gotten a better manager was slim. Look at QPR, who were forced to name Ramsey as manager.

Shall I give up on Clichy? I am not sure I can carry the risk of a Kolarov appearance in GW27 and City are pants at the back anyway. I am thinking of Wollscheid.

City defender --> Stoke defender seems wholly unappealing to me.

it should be but Kol is a pain and City are not keeping cleanies. Having sad that, I would not be thinking about it if Clichy was nailed on.

Anyone else absolutely bemused at the reaction to the Yacob challenge? I couldn't twist my ankle as a result of that, let alone break my leg.

    Azpi nailed on?

Only imagine Luis gonna play against BURNLEY at home. That's CS for sure.

If you'd won 20 titles as a Utd fan - it would surely be silly to switch to WBA after today wouldn't it? I've currently got more honours than my mates but don't want to be left behind by those who've switched to Chelsea and City.

I think you'll find the team have won those titles, not you.

The idea that you have "more honours than your mates" is therefore ridiculous.

A friend of mine is a Watford season-ticket holder and has been going there since he was a kid. Loyalty is the only honour applicable to a football supporter and he has as much of it as anyone.

..um, wow. I didn't know that fans received titles.
