Fantasy Football Scout is pleased to announce two new Fantasy Premier League cup competitions which are set to take place over the season run-in. First of all, we roll out the eleventh instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, sponsored by Paddy Power. This is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 and our reigning champion CMIFLFC in our hall of fame.

We’ve also opened entry for the fifth instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup, as Trigg looks to defend his title. Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kikkers and Acquafresca were our other previous winners of this tournament.

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 28, with the first rounds running on Gameweek 29.

Fantasy managers can enter their teams from now right up to Wednesday March 11, when we’ll stop entry and will be drawing the first round ties from the qualifiers.

There will be 512 qualifiers for the members cup and 1024 for the Paddy Power Cup XI – depending on the number of entries. All our previous winners gain a bye into the first round draw where they will join the top scorers from Gameweek 28.

FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup

How do I enter?

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

To check that you’re entered correctly, please scan the list of current entries.

The Paddy Power Cup XI entry list can be found here.

The Members Cup entry list can be found here.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around March 11 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule:

The fixture list for each round of both cups will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Prizes will be announced in a follow up article.

Do I have to enter if I’m previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFScout username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

Looks like a healthy number of members in the Paddy Power Cup.

My cup entry ID for the PP and the members are only one digit apart.

The TFF thing followed by today's "brilliant" post by Shirokov really highlights how superior the DZ is on this site.

    Greetings fellas.

Just read andy85wsm's post about DGW. So refreshing, yeah we tend to forget that this game is about having fun and exciting times.

Now I'm considering Vert for DGW! 😀

Great post that. ONly thing Id be concerned about it getting carried away with DGW players. Last year SGWers punished us bad for ignoring their juicy fixtures. I have a feeling Aguero and Co could do the same this time around.

WBA have conceded 5 in their last 5, Stoke have conceded 7 in their last 5 but have played Man City in that run.

Don't get me wrong, of course WBA are more solid defensively but Stoke's lack of recent clean sheets doesn't mean they're terrible at the back, often they're losing by 1 goal. They're still in the top 10 for least conceded, WBA are 11th. But then you could argue the Pulis effect of course.

I'm just saying I think it's closer than most people think it is, given Stokes great fixtures, and WBA's being fairly tough next 4

All very true Fionn, but also keep in mind the amount of injury concern Stoke have in the back. Yes, like you said though about the Pulis effect, West Brom have some of the best underlying defensive stats in the last four.

Going by the consistent stories in the papers...

    Alves
    Hummels
    Strootman
    Depay
    Ronaldo

Think Ed definitely wants to bring Ronaldo back and if so will happen this summer or next unless the manager is against it. That would be at least 200m never mind the wages and would barely improve us at all. I hope we don't make top four quite honestly.

I'd agree those wouldn't be great value transfers. but Hummels/Strootman/Depay are all youngish so there's some upside there and Ronaldo's Ronaldo so I don't see how it wouldn't improve you. Don't see how you get Ronaldo though.

Hummels is a very poor defender. Spending a wad on him would be mad. Strootman and particularly Depay would be good but Ronaldo will decline drastically in the next two seasons.

I'll admit I haven't watched enough of Hummels to really know how good he is, but he's highly regarded, so surely he can't be too horrible? The price might be more than he's worth, but when you're Manchester United you can afford to overpay a bit, although it's not wise long term.

With Ronaldo, he might not be worth what you'd have to pay on the field, but he's still a great player and all the jersey sales/hype would soften the blow of the fee/wages.

Not sure how having ronaldo let alone the others wouldn't improve on the current shambles. Obviously hummels would have to compete with the like of blacket, smalling and Evans for his place..

A poacher is a player who lurks in the area and does bugger all elsewhere on the pitch. Ronaldo's not like that.

And he's still in pretty fantastic shape. Doesn't tend to get injured, which is an unsung attribute for a player. So he's got a few seasons in him at his current level before declining (which will still leave him at Champions League level).

Whether poacher or not it dont matter, what impt is ronaldo can do a fast counter attack, bring the ball up and bang!

which currently none at MU can do a good job at that...

if Ronaldo is back at MU next season, make sure u dont have him on your FPL team! lol

😀 ok in Ronaldo's case he does do bugger all without the ball apart from moan, but I meant a poacher is a Gary Lineker type tap-in player which Ronaldo isn't.

He wouldn't be worth the money that Madrid would ask, but to say he'd barely improve this Man Utd side is just not true.

He still has more pace than RVP/Falcao. Hypothetically shove both of them (RVP/Falcao, that is, maybe Mata too if you're not going to play him) out the door, put Rooney up top, Depay on the right, Ronaldo on the left and a midfield of some combination of Strootman/Di Maria/Blind/Other signing X looks good to me on paper. Of course, the season's a long way from over and who knows who United will end up with.

I just don't think he'll be able to keep it up for much longer. Everyone's body starts to break down at 30. I suppose having Shaw behind him would help. But then we'd also need a manager with a brain.

I don't care about selling shirts. He won't pull his weight for the team and as his legs go so will his influence. Berba was always about technical ability so of course he's still doing it. Not so with Ronnie.

That's my planned move. Pulis will probably pull a fast one and bring Wisdom back into the fold the way luck is falling with budget defenders...

That's probably a better move ILB, Gayle needs to go soon, and I'd also consider somehow saving finds for a Terry to Ivan move as well

Hey fellow DZers, I hate the campaigning for the scout picks as much as the next guy, but it seems there have been relatively few votes this time around. Many good options for this GW

I know how you feel, I think you'll find comfort in knowing many are in worse shape. Your team's still good though, and both Mane and Cazorla are great picks this GW. You have many of the base top1k template players, I think your Mane pick is great and that alone can smash the top1k average IMO

I always found it funny when people would get offended by posts like that when it's clear as day they're making transfers.

      e.g Terry > Zouma

      Chadli > Sanchez

hey lads..not quite sure what to do..was originally tempted by Wally > Silva but at LM I'm not quite so certain..alternatively was thinking Di Maria in (under the hope that Rooney plays up top)..

    2FT, 1.3m

    ...............Krul
    ..PvA, Toby, Wolly, Clichy
    Sanchez, Caz, Wally, Boyd
    ........Defoe, Aguero

    Panti, Haz, Kane, Terry

obviously even being able to field 11 is contingent on Toby finally being fit, PvA seeing the field and Wally playing after he (I'm assuming) starts vs Monaco

and it's a heated affair so who knows what could happen

Second FT, either Wally or Defoe out

I think I'll hold onto Defoe, would not be surprised to see him score against us and fixtures are still good for Sunderland for a bit (not really tempted by Austin yet, 2 bad fixtures isn't better than 1 good fixture)

Good point on Defoe, if Austin doesn't tempt you, have you thought about Sturridge? They play Bunrley at home Gw28 and play Swansea away after, Pool are on the up and Sturridge is bang in-form. Wally to Eriksen for the DGW, Cazorla downgrade soon after to do Defoe to Sturridge? I think you'll need him as a placeholder for Costa for the DGW

why is everyone so hot on Austin for GW28? because both are at home?

I can see the appeal if you still have him or literally everything else is in order and you get him without a hit..but damn, Arsenal and Spurs aren't easy matchups

I figure if I can do Defoe -> Austin for free next week I will but, as you say only if everything else is in order and at this stage its looking increasingly likely that I will need to use my 2nd free trade this week to field 11.....next week's priority will be Caz/Silva -> Ericksen

if PVA doesn't play again this week, i'll be down to 10 players.
So i'm thinking of selling Terry to get in Berty

Allows me to get in the extra $$$ to then do this the week after
    ADM -> Silva
    Mane -> Eriksen

Is it crazy??? It only leaves me with one Chelsea player (Hazard) which hasn't happened all year

Its so wacky I can't believe you even came up with it!

Sorry, of course its fine. I'd get rid of a different mid for Eriksen though. Mane has good fix.

Oops my bad. PVA/Baird -> Lescott/Dawson/Wools/Colo/Haidara. Jones -> SOT defender in GW28. Hopefully it won;t be too late by then.

I've just started drafting an article for the gw34 DGW so that it's good to go as soon as the FA Cup quarter finals are played. I'm not sad I promise!

He's currently down on my watchlist, but that's the obvious time to buy him. Could easily outscore Eriksen anyway.

Boat has sailed for me sadly, no room to correct my mistake even if he keeps it going. I can't see him delivering like this though, he'll be on the wane soon enough, IMO.

Yeah see I've changed my stance on this since I think the fixtures will deliver points. But I did catch a lot of heat on here for suggesting Silva would revert to his old FPL ways and hurt the bandwagon once again...

W/o a doubt Silva's still a good option, it's just something to keep an eye on and have a plan B for. My hypothesis was that his performance for FPL will drop with all of YYT, Bony, and Aguero on the pitch starting, this still hasn't started and I think Gw28 vs Lei will be the real FPL test for him. Could be the trend setter for him. this could also all be bollocks and he may have broken his pattern of 7-8 goals a season, who knows. In the end we can only make educated guesses, best not to stir the hornet's nest after his recent haul though

Hmm Dier has been playing 90 minutes in 4 of the last 5 PL games. Wonder where do they fit him.

The rest of the defenders hasn't featured much.. do they play with only 1 CB?? Or someone from midfield has been playing reverse OOP?

Dier is edging Fazio in the "A.N.Other" spot but he's not as nailed as Vert/Walker/Rose.

Which defender should I get to replace PvA?

Already have 3 Arsenal... so no Bellerin. Already have Foster as GK... so would have to double up to get Dawson.

    Foster, Myhill
    Terry, Clyne, Naughton, Hutton, PvA
    Hazard, Sanchez, Cazorla, ADM, Boyd
    Aguero, Giroud, Kane

    1 FT, 1.2 ITB

no, Monaco have scored just 26 goals in 25 games in Ligue 1. Koscielny will have old man Berbatov in his pocket for 180 minutes over this tie!

    Current back 5.

Clyne, Terry, PVA, Wasil, Wisdom.. (Gets worse as you read along)
2ft's, 2.7m. (Johnson in midfield needs to be upgraded too)

My plan for my backline is

    This week, Wasil/Wisdom- Bellerin/Wollscheid
Next week, Terry- Rose and maybe Johnson to Eriksen (hit)

So that would leave me with
    Clyne, Bellerin, Wollscheid, PVA, Rose
    Eriksen

    Good transformation?
Maybe Zouma in then after that for PVA.

Decent. So your DGW defense would be clyne Bellerin Rose - not bad.

But then if you're losing Terry might as well do it this week. Try Wisdom-> Dawson/Naughton/Wolls/Haidara just for now and then reassess your options next week.
