With Chelsea and Tottenham out of contention this week, Fantasy managers are eyeing up the premium price bracket for potential replacements in the centre of the park. Whilst Spurs’ double Gameweek 28 will surely persuade Christian Eriksen owners to hold, the Blues’ pair Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have been subject to significant transfers out this week after struggling to pick up the points in recent matches.

Fabregas, in particular, has afforded his 33% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners cause for concern after serving up just two assists since the turn of the year. Hazard’s single strike and two assists in six has been boosted by nine bonus points, but with the Belgian’s goal threat very much on the slide, there are a number of options available for those looking to freshen up their five-man midfields.

In our second members article of the week, we cast an eye over four pricey midfielders – David Silva, Mesut Ozil, Raheem Sterling and Angel Di Maria – whose recent form is very much on the rise. The quartet have all delivered returns in three of their last four league appearances and are starting to find consistency as the battle for our Fantasy attention heats up.

What's the status on PVA? Was it just a rest, or is he no longer a certain starter?

I'll only have 10 starters if he is out this week. Worth transferring out?

I was all set to hold.

    Krul
Bellerin / Bruce / Trippier / PVA or Baird
    Sanchez / Boydinho / Silva / Mane
    Giroud / Aguero

My rival has a max 8 players playing without hits.

    But now I'm getting doubts.

Bellerin and Bruce unsafe? Giroud unsafe after last night?

    Can someone reassure me 🙁

That was plan number one before deciding to hold.

A transfer like that now means I can't get Eriksen for the DGW though.

Fair enough. My rival has Eriksen and Austin, so I'm a bit worried and feel I need the 2FT to off set that.

                Season changing decision, this.

Thanks for your input anyway. I will have to make a call on it soon.

The biggest doubt for me is that I can't find a defender that I'm confident for a clean sheet.

That makes me lean towards holding.

I have already done that. With RVP out, Rooney starts upfront and will be on pens. His stats in that position are excellent. Costa to Rooney (c) this week and I'll keep Rooney for 2 or 3 weeks before I get Costa back again. That's the plan anyway.

People will mock this move (see above) but the art of successful FPL management is to act before the event not afterwards. Watch the rush to get Rooney in if he scores a brace this weekend. 😉

In a GW when captain options are not great and many will be captaining Aguero against a very solid Liverpool at Anfield the potential downside of this move is not high but the potential upside is big. That's my take anyway.

I like this call. Not sure of any subsequent rush to get Rooney in given he's no part in the DGW the following week, but as a 1 week punt it certainly has merit.

Not from here but if Costa can get 150k transfers in for one GW ahead of a blank I think a big score from Rooney this weekend and the realisation he is playing as a striker again would likely have quite an effect.

It could fall flat, it could look very astute. But take this season and Rooney's appearances in midfield away - under 'normal' circumstances Rooney playing as a striker at home to Sunderland would be seen as very advantageous.

With Terry Kane and Hazard all on the bench for the blank do I risk and keep Pva or shift him with Wisdom ?

Don't know about for a hit. Had Colback not timed his flurry of yellows to miss the one GW I kept him for I might have done Colback to Phillips next week, he's cheap enough to be my 5th mid and Ramsey obviously likes him. As it is I have done Colback to Fletcher this week and will leave it at that.

My main option is to shift Baird for a starter.

But this means I have only one FT for the DGW and also I'm not confident that I can find a defender to get a clean sheet this week. Tough call.

        1. Pasqualinho
          • 16 Years
          11 years, 1 month ago

Baird has a slim chance of getting you a point - any more than that is a huge bonus. But his replacement will likely only score 2. Would that 2 pts be better written off and getting another DGWer? I think there's a case for this.

There's a good case for this too, as it may be a long term move. As long as bringing Bert in doesn't (in your opinion) mean too much cash in defence then I'd be tempted by this. Baird has to go at some stage anyway.

      FA Cup - Sixth Round
Man Utd v Arsenal Mon 9 Mar 15:00

5 games in 16 days. Walcott is due a start. Welbeck played last night. Of the above I'd expect all of them to start on Saturday but if anyone might get a rest it would be Sanchez. However I doubt Wenger would do that on the back of 2 defeats. More likely the QPR game.

Wenger is causing himself big problems by trying to shoehorn all his attacking mids into the team. The big miss for Arsenal has been Ramsey and the effective switch from the 4-2-3-1 that did so well against City and Villa to the 4-1-4-1 which failed so dismally against Monaco having struggled against Palace. If Wenger is sensible he'll rotate the AMs a bit and use Wilshere, Flamini or Rosicky alongside Coquelin until Ramsey is back.

It is a fair point that Austin may be the only forward nailed on for a DGW. Giroud may not even get one. Aguero, who knows how things are going to pan out with Bony there too could he only get a part match. Maybe I should be thinking of bringing Austin in next week?

QPR might be kak but he can score against anyone. Simple as that.

I had Austin for a long time earlier this season. He is a great option normally and I guess that spot is just waiting to become Costa a week later anyway

Austin so likely to get 4pts though. I'm happy gambling on him failing

Completely possible. Giroud may only get one though for example

Austin has only blanked two games in a row twice this season.

      3. Eze Really?

Why? IMO he is capable of scoring at home against anyone. Never mind Arsenal and Spurs who are not clean sheet merchants away from home.

I would think abt this. He is good pick imo.

Silva. But take a time machine back a week and ask this question and everyone would say Yaya

    Whats more important this gw

    A) Feilding 11 players buy using 2ft to fix defence

    B) Saving a transfer to get an extra dgw player next week (eg austin)

A, if you have players like PVA and Baird they won't probably play during GW28 either and you need the FT you can get for the DGW

*all the FTs you can get

I think A but the problem is the defenders in question are all so cheap it's hard to get excited about their replacements. I've tackled this by dropping Ivan, really wanna steal a march this week

I would say neither to be honest.

Saving a FT is a better option than A but not for the sole purpose of getting a DGW player in.

Im choosing to field less players this week because Im not confident any cheapie defender I will bring in will get a CS.

My thoughts entirely. I much prefer getting a mid who will play and only having a back 3

B assumes the double week will be profitable though. Kane is irrelevant, the other spurs may well only play one and QPR are rubbish, poor fixtures and dint want them long term
