With a double Gameweek 31 just around the corner, we take time out to analyse Tim Sherwood’s impact at the Aston Villa helm so far. In terms of results, at least, it’s been a mixed beginning for the new man in charge – in addition to seeing off West Brom in the cup, Villa have won two and lost three of his first five league fixtures, scoring seven times in the process.

Bearing in mind that the Midlands side had notched two goals in the ten Gameweeks prior to Sherwood’s arrival, though, it’s fair to say that he’s improved their prospects in the final third. Shifting to a two-man frontline and bringing Scott Sinclair and Charles N’Zogbia out of the cold and onto the flanks, the new manager has transformed the fortunes of Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor, with the duo both scoring three times in the last trio of league fixtures.

As Villa prepare to face United and QPR in the next round of fixtures, we turn to the new team data in the members section to ascertain whether there is such as thing as β€œthe Sherwood effect”.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No Villa player has caught my eye. They have a DGW but are up against United in the first game in which I don't think they can either score a goal or keep a CS. They have a blank too in GW33. So for those who are planning of bringing in any Villa player, think twice.

    And I miss Martin Laursen.

one of my all time fave fpl machines. always coming up with a goal or cs or both when ya need it most.

villa can absolutely get a goal vs utd and then its qpr at home. would be cheering if I had tekkers in my team but quite a luxury to bring him in for one gw

I assume most of us have a strike force with combination of Aguero, Kane and Giroud/Austin. Don't think I will give up any of them for Tekkers unless chasing for points.

Agreed, that sounds like a great move for free. I'd do N' Doye out in a heartbeat, Tekker DGW is enticing and after it, he's up against the infamous Spurs backline before his blank. Solid differential

Could happen for sure champ but this week I'd happily take benteke home to qpr against kun away to palace. The manu game is just a bonus. Next week I can afford Austin> Costa with the Kun money, Kun away to Man U anyway. Following week I can gamble on bony against kun home to west ham or even get back Kun for a hit if I really felt it necessary.

Not sure Champy, think it'll be Kane and Austin runaway leaders in the top 10k, followed by Hazard then Kun tbh. Tekkers is a great differential this week, and if you don't have Austin, I'd highly consider Bentekkers.

Oi, no clear cut choice here. I imagine most with Austin will be captaining, so I can see at least a 40% captaincy for him in the top 10k. Aguero has great underlying stats, hopefully he does well in these next two friendlies to up his captaincy credentials.

Any main man home to qpr is an option each week. And the Man U game may be tough but adds at least 2 pts to the baseline for any score

I second this, and it seems at this point backing an attacker vs Spurs either away or home, can also make for some good punts. Coincidentally, Tekkers has Spurs away after the DGW

I'm torn between Austin and Kane. The armband's currently on Kane, which surprises me slightly as I'm normally like to maximise returns from a DGW.

So, in answer to your question Champ, I'm suggesting I don't favour Kun at present, but I'm struggling to offer advice on picking between a DGW player and a SGW player in great form.

or I could do bertrand/ndoye to toby/costa for -4 that would give me the seemingly ideal frontline of costa/kane/kun for next few weeks

Champ - just catching up and have seen this.

The risk with the hit imo is that you could find yourself preferring Giroud over Kun two weeks later and then the hit will feel like a waste.

Ah I see. Not sure about that. All it takes is a peno or a slice of luck in one of the tougher fixtures and nonowners will be bricking it. I actually think Tekkers has the better fixtures as both teams Austin faces will be pragmatic.

So did picking Rose last time, against the general advice, but there were a few grumbles when he delivered some points. I don't see why there were complaints - to win something on the lottery you need to buy a ticket.

The thing is although I believe Benteke is the better forward and Villa the better team. Austin has 2 decent fixtures and Villa have 1. QPR also need it more so should be putting everything into it.

    Hello DZ 😳

Sometimes, when work allows, I'm awake late and I work from home the next day. It's always nice to see the the FFS community buzzing ( albeit slowly ) during an international break.

I've been on here for 5 years. Sometimes I post 20 times a day. Sometimes I post once a week.

Sometimes, actually, most of the time , I've disagreed with what guy called MerryMichaelW has had to say; he's a stats man,I'm a gut man. He later changed his name to Doosra because of an animated discussion one time with someone called RoysBrotherJohnson. (dont make me dig out the the link. (But MMW and RBJ loved each other!) Smart brains attract each other πŸ˜‰

Something made me think of him tonight (Doosra). I've "known" him for 5 years.... I don't know him at all of course.

But I'm thinking of him right now.

Just looking over the Brazil-France match stats confirms everything I hate about international football. What a pointless match. Nowhere near the best teams in play for either side. Sloppy by all accounts. FIFA making money. Neymar padding stats.

    Feck off.

Someone described this international break like this
' its like you are reading this excellent book (Prem) with about 20 pages left. It is then taken away from you and you are given a book to read that you were half way through in November and gave up on as it was dull.'

As an 'old' man the money making element is just sad and normal now. The whole Champions League is held up as the pinnacle of the best football.
The whole purpose of the competition is to extend the process for as long as possible so we can be shown as many Visa adverts as possible.
If i was a fan of say Arsenal or Chelsea of course i would be interested in my teams progress but as a fan of a lower league team why should i care?

Sell the lot and take what hit you need. Worst case 12 pts and you know you are set for the run in.
12 pts now but 50+ if you make the right choices over the next 8 gameweeks.
My aim obviously 3 Chelsea by GW34 + 2 Arsenal and 1 Liverpool as subs GW33.

I've got Panti, but need another keeper due to his blank gw... And Giroud has Burnley after Liverpool, tempting to keep him because of that. And he might do well against liverpool, Skertl is not playing and he's got the form, and Arsenal is playing well attackingwise currently. But that would mean being behind the couch during Austin's games...have a look at Austin's shooting stats...

The lack of goals from Soton worries me for the run in. I saw Everton falter last year due to squad depth. I think overloading Soton for the run in could prove costly.Forster getting injured may be a blessing in disguise. Frees up funds for a different mindset.

They will do well defensively with those remaining fixtures, but attackingwise might still struggle as has been the case. I believe Clyne and Bertrand are excellent picks, and K.Davies as well, if he is nailed on. Alderweireld good value for money, but bp-wise will probably not do as well as Clyne and Bertrand. Mane is good value for money as well, but needs definately monitoring - it's all about his form....

You echo everyone's sentiments I think. My concerns are Soton don't have the defensive run in everyone hopes for and all eggs in 1 basket is risky IMO. WBA will find a way for clean sheets at less cost.

You maybe right. 3 clean sheets against say 4 for Soton is no train smash though. Especially if you have 2 Chelsea defenders.

4? They have a chance of 7/8 clean sheets unlike WBA who have a chance of 3/8 at max. I'm sure they will keep twice CS as that of WBA.
Not everyone have 2 Chelsea defenders, most are going with Hazard, Ivan and Costa.
Alder vs Dawson, only 0.3 difference. I would happily pay 1m more for 2 extra clean sheets.

Projected clean sheets till the end of season:

                Arsenal 4.07
                Soton 4.05
                United 3.93
                Chelsea 3.92
                Leicester 3.67
                City 3.53

Source FFFix. Projections are based on defensive performance so far this season and attacking quality of opposition.

Expecting 7 clean sheets from Southampton seems far-fetched.

                    West Ham (h), WBA (a), Swansea (h), Burnley (a), Newcastle (h), Soton (h), Sunderland (a), QPR (h).

Seems like a reasonable set of fixtures for clean sheets. But if you find the projection amusing I suggest you take it up with FFF. I was simply offering a neutral reference.

On goals conceded and CS data it's hard to see how they get to 3.67 CSs for Leicester seeing that they have only kept 4 all season. I believe they factor in offensive performance of the opposition as well.

FFF claim their CS accuracy is 64%.

Not expecting that much, its just a ideal scenario. Every move that we make are simply based on past performance and future expectations, none of us know the outcome πŸ™‚

Games against Everton and Spurs are risks defensively, yes...and they are playing many of the easiest games away from home. But what the alternatives? Not that easy to find...
I have Dawson and probably will keep the rest of the season, don't wanna waste a transfer on him and he rotates ok'ish with f.g. Arsenal defender.

I have just Clyne currently, but considering K.Davies or Alde. Everyone seems to be thinking K.Davies is nailed on, but would like to see that being the case before making any transfer.

Baruc is on loan and cannot return to Soton. With 1 Soton defender Davies is not a bad call.

Davies wont have any noticeable effect on Soton's defence. As long as Wanyama and Schneid are there in front of Fonte + others then Southampton are a good bet for cleanies.

Possibly Foster -> Myhill (frees up funds), play him over Panti and play PvA over Bertrand?

Yeah foster to Myhill is a must.
Don't really wanna bench Bertrand but think it's a good shout.

I have 0.7 itb so should be left with 1.0 exactly.

          Here's how I see it.

Panti (NEW) vs. Myhill (QPR), you'd favour Myhill. This move also frees up funds.

Bertrand (eve) vs. PvA (NEW) both are very attacking and PvA has the better fixture.

          Makes sense, no?

            Yeah absolutely makes sense.

Pva Naughton Terry Is a good defence for this gameweek.
what bout my other free transfer. Hold or Eriksen to Mata ?

I'd save the other, other people on here will tell you otherwise but I don't rate Mata as an option. Eriksen has good fixtures and should be able to score decently

I rate Mata as an option but not for Eriksen. I'd maybe use Mata to replace an Arsenal midfielder with Liverpool, Burnley, Blank, Chelsea in the next 4 GWs. But I wouldn't put him in for Eriksen who has good fixtures right now and plays in GW33.

Ruth do you see Mata in for Wally is the sensible option in that price range? (Assuming I own Eriksen)

Also what are your thoughts on Oscar as an alternative?

I don't know about THE sensible option but I think it would be a sensible choice. It rather depends on whether freeing up more cash by taking Sigurdsson, Downing or Mane instead would be useful to you.

The case for Mata is that he is a proven heavy scorer in FPL when he gets gametime and LVGs recent comments suggest he has nailed a spot in the United team for now at least. Their fixtures aren't the easiest but that may not matter, the Manchester Derby could as easily be 3-2 or 2-3 as 0-0.

Oscar will get plenty of gametime and is doing fine. But he's like Eriksen, it's hard to predict when he will score. He's the kind of player to hold for a long stretch of games rather than looking for short-term gains. Personally I have a feeling that Willian will have a good end to the season but that's just based on my general impression of how well he is playing.

Cheers. My midfield is pretty lightweight as it is and there's cash floating around elsewhere in my team too so I'm not really looking at downgrading here.

LvG's comments are the main driving factor in my confidence in Mata as even though he's a safety first manager. If Mata plays, he'll be involved somehow, moreso than Rooney I think in terms of goal contribution.

Willian? Have to say I've not followed Chelsea to closely, but doesn't Cuadrado put a big black mark next to Willian's name?

No, I don't think so. Willian and Oscar can both be rested but will likely get 20-30 minutes as a sub if they do. Hazard could also be rested once the title is settled. Cuadrado is more for next season I think, he's being given time to settle in right now.

I think Willian is an interesting punt but it's one I imagine most other managers would be scornful about. πŸ˜‰ And he would certainly be much more of a punt than someone like Mata.

Kinda convinced me to do Cazorla to Mata.
Yes United have big games ahead but they dint come many bigger than Liverpool at anfield. And with Mata bagging a brace. Am hoping he will pay off.

Seems good to me. Your team will look more exciting with Mata in it.

The Spurs DGW resulted in a lot of teams becoming more template, including mine. πŸ™ Finding the right way to break that is the key right now I think.

    Morning all, I have 2FT & 1.1 ITB.

Struggling a little with how to proceed. Was all set to dump Sanchez. But Liverpool are struggling with injuries & i feel a big game like this may suit Sanchez. So considering keeping for one more week. Please look at my team & options below

    Pantilimon
    Koscielny Terry Alderweireld
    Hazard Sanchez Eriksen Silva
    Kane Aguero Austin

    Hamer PVA Boyd Dawson

A - Sanchez > Mata [one week punt]
B - Hamer > Myhill/Davis/Fabianski [Pants has a blank coming up so will need to cover that]
C - Pants > Myhill/Davis/Fabianski [ free up cash to spend else where
    D - Other
