Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero is the runaway leader of this week’s poll, with over 53% of the votes cast heading the City striker’s way ahead of a home clash with QPR. Since his manager switched to 4-4-1-1, the Argentine has racked up five goals in four matches and will fancy his chances of replicating his 13-point return at Loftus Road back in Gameweek 11 against a side with the worst away defensive record in the top flight.

The red-hot Christian Benteke is next in line. Somewhat surprisingly, the Villa forward has earned only 18% of votes so far after taking his tally to ten goals in eight league appearances with a weekend double against Everton. Benteke has now served up double figures in three of his last four at Villa Park and welcomes a West Ham side with two away clean sheets to their name all season.

Alexis Sanchez is the other main contender. After bagging a brace in Arsenal’s impressive win at Hull, the Chilean has three goals and an assist in his last four league matches and plays host to a Swansea side that’s conceded at least twice in three of their last four road trips. Over 13% have voted for Sanchez, who has already found the net against Garry Monk’s side this season.

With those three taking up the vast majority of votes, there are a number of armband differentials to consider this weekend. Both David Silva and Olivier Giroud have collected just 2% backing ahead of home encounters with QPR and Swansea. Silva has earned just two assists in four since the move to a lone striker system – prior to that switch, he’d scored four times in three home appearances. The points have also dried up for Giroud of late. It’s three league outings without any returns now for the Frenchman, though he has still managed to score in four of his last five home starts – only Chelsea have kept him at bay.

Elsewhere, Eden Hazard has received just 2% of the votes ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Liverpool, despite scoring in three successive appearances at the Bridge. Aaron Ramsey is rated 50-50 to shrug off a knock in time for Arsenal’s clash with Swansea. Since returning to the starting line-up in Gameweek 29, the Welshman has served up three double-figure hauls in six appearances. Hull’s Dame N’Doye has notched five times in ten starts as struggling Burnley attempt to stave off the imminent threat of relegation at the KC Stadium.

I assume shots taken is one of the stats being talked about. Admittedly, I only watch 45 minutes or so of the QPR game but I counted at least 3 shots from outside the box that were blasted at the first defender. Take from that what you will.

Planned transfer this week was Sterling to Ramsey. I am pointone short of Ozil.
    Should i
    A) not do the transfer. Play vardy instead (or Sterling?). Reasses Ramsey and everything before the DGW with 2transfers.
    B) get Santi (destroying my Chance of having Ramsey+Ozil next week) whom I don't trust, playing in a deeper role. Mediocre pointoutput over the last 6games
    C) get Ramsey. Play him. If he doesn't start, Vardy will come in for him. He should at least be ready for next week. On the minus-side he might come on as a sub or start but be off @55-65mins as precaution.

Thanks in advance for your opinion. I think it's really between A and C for me

ML rival has Aguero & Silva and is ahead of my distant 2nd place by 60+ points

I have 5.2 in the bank and no one from Man City, already have triple Arsenal and PVA.

Sterling -> Yaya as a punt make sense in that context?

Will still have 3.0 in the bank afterward.

No. The Mirallas thing was Mirallas being a _____

He gave them to Lukaku because he felt they were more important for a striker as they can help build confidence and form (short version, he prattled on a lot about it).

Mmh, struggling a bit this week.
    Some help?

    Team atm:
    Davis, Mannone
    Ivan, Terry, Morgan, Moreno, Baird
    Hazard, Henderson, Coutinho, Puncheon, Boyd
    Benteke, Aguero, Giroud

    1 FT, 3.6 ITB

    Was thinking of:
    A) Puncheon -> Cazorla this week, Davis -> Ospina next week, so no hits

    B) Coutinho, Puncheon -> Sanchez, Albrighton (-4) this week, Davis -> Ospina next week

    C) Coutinho -> Sanchez this week, Davis, Moreno -> Ospina, PVA (-4) next week

I can get him without a hit by doing Coutinho -> Sanchez this week. But then I'll have to play Moreno or Puncheon this week and they suck atm 😀 And then I'll have 0.0 ITB so probably need a hit to bring someone in next week.

Agreed, but that is just how it goes. 🙂 Can't wait for the season to be finished.

God tell me about it. I took a -12 that week but made all the wrong transfers. Krul > schi -4 would have paid for itself after the first game 🙁

    2 questions:

    1) who to play in DF: Berty or Skrtal

    2) of Ramsey doesn't play, who is a very first sub - Boyd or Berty/Skrtal (see above)

    Cheers!

If it was last week I'd say yes. Now it would just be chasing points.

I really want to finish the season with a bit of gamble.

    Hazard, Henderson-->Ozil, Cazorla.

Gives me a mid of Sanchez,Ozil,Caz,Coutinho (and puncheon who i won't really play)

    Good call?

Would you start Albrighton ahead of either of Sterling or Henderson this week?

I would. Leicester is attacking a lot and Southampton not so tight on the road atm.

Who to bench? Sterling or Hendo?

Difficult one. I'd bench Sterling because everyone is selling him anyway.

Hazard a rotation danger? I'm trying to get Sanchez in ahead of the DGW and am, quite honestly, a bit puzzled. Right now I've worked out a Caz+Hendo+Austin > Sanchez+McCarthy+Vardy swap, but that's a -4 for me and a wash as far as number of Arsenal players. Would you hazard instead swapping out Hazard (see what I did there?) for Sanchez and Austin for a 6.6-ish attacker?

Anyone else thing Ozil will outscore Sterling by at least 4 pts this week?

I'd like a majority saying yes.

Probably. 1 assist and a clean sheet would do that.
