United and QPR have worries over their first-choice stoppers as we assess the weekend’s new injury concerns for the final time this season. It’s fair to say that, this time round, the injuries have been kept to a minimum.

Aston Villa
Kieran Richardson missed Villa’s 6-1 thrashing at Southampton due to a calf complaint.

Man United
David de Gea was replaced during this afternoon’s draw with Arsenal after sustaining a hip injury.

QPR
Rob Green was forced off with a head knock after colliding with team-mate Joey Barton during the R’s home win over Newcastle.

Sunderland
Billy Jones was replaced late on in the Black Cats’ goalless draw with Leicester due to a muscle problem.

Swansea
Ki Sung-Yeung missed Swansea’s home clash with City after undergoing minor knee surgery in time to be fit for the start of next season.

West Ham
James Collins was withdrawn early on against Everton due to a leg problem, the Hammers have confirmed. Kevin Nolan missed out due to a family bereavement.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just had a look at next week and I have all XI playing at home, assume most do but never seen that before.

I remember one such week very early in the season for me, and I ended up with like 15 points less than the average.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton all have a chance on the 5th place. Is that something that will motivate them a little extra last game?

      Spurs and Liverpool look done

Talking about motivation, the higher up the league you finish the more prize money you secure. Looking at the table there are a few examples of teams who could finish 2 or more places higher if results go there way.

I suppose that would only motivate players if their bonuses were tied to league position - which they may well be.

Loved the chat earlier on next season, nice distraction at work and setting up my team is actually one of my fave parts of the game. Sad i know.. Had me thinking about key positions and prices/ price ranges

I really think that 2 of the most important positions are the 4th mid and 3rd striker. When I say important don’t mean they score the most but these are what I see as the random spots, where I take a punt. If it comes off then its so profitable

    -Mid 11 /10/ 7.5/ 4.5/???
Hazard/Silva/ Erik, Hendo or Bolasie/ Albrighton and?????

    -Fw 12/ 10.5/????
    Aguero/Rooney or Costa and ?????

Looking for good value in these 2 positions can give you a real boost and I seem to mess around with these 2 spots more than any other. (This year Austin and Kane made the strikers easy).

Agree. This year I had Young as my fifth mid. Turned to be prescient, despite the abuse. 🙂

Many started with him i recall and shifted quick, well done for sticking. 3.5 points per game is fine for a 5th mid. Never walked that particular road myself.

my learning for next year is to give myself maximum flexibility early on by having money spread across positions and covering a range of price brackets

That way it's easier to get rid of all the dross that looked good in pre season.

I will not be repeating the young > ince fiasco that I cornered myself into because I could not afford siggy

I actually set my team up earlier this season knowing full well that I will be spending a few transfers on the 4th mid and 3rd striker spots. Dzeko + Sterling were my 3rd striker + 4th mid (i knew Siggy was someone I wanted to keep so he was my 3rd mid). Avoided the Naismith-Bojan-Ulloa etc wagon, and settled Pelle as the idea 3rd striker (after fluttering to Jovetic first).

Very hard to nail those 2 spots from my previous 2 seasons experience - so you're right.

That 4th mid spot always seems to not have enough cash to be in the Siggy range but more in the Walters range

Agree. Those 2 spots + the 4.5/5.0 defenders are the picks that will give you the edge over your rivals.

I've just had a look at the season stats with the link on previous page or so...crazy to see the benefits of my "put more money in defence this season" strategy. 488 points so far from my defenders! Think picking the right defenders are really key as the template usually affects mid + fwd.

Its getting on the value defenders imo.
In the past it was Stoke. Recently Palace under Pullis, this year Southampton, West Brom and later Leicester. Getting cheap clean sheets is key

Actually, just follow Pullis. Also Ntaylor in the 1st half of the season did well for me

I didn't have double Southampton but when I saw the value defenders, I quickly doubled on them.

            Krul + Saylor.
Wisdom first, then to Myhill + Dawson on Jan WC
Ivan + Terry (not value but good differential) & Morgan + Schmeichel more recently

Well done. But tbh I think it's not about putting money in D, it's about getting the right D to invest. CHE look a steady bet like always, those who double/triple up SOT were well rewarded and at some stages WBA LEI SWA defense are all delivering for us.

          1. Shifty
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 7 months ago

yeah. But i probably applied "invest" broadly...ie not just money but even willingness to spend FTs on defence. Previous seasons I tended to favour spending FTs on forward and mid positions. But this season I was more than happy to spend FTs on defenders. Learned a good lesson in any case.

I think another lesson i learned is to not be afraid of doubling up on multiple team defences at one go. See above.

FTs on defenders are always good. Sometimes in FPL CS are easier to find than goals, mind you.

Yeah, I'm learning about that too. Not a fan of that strategy unless it's CHE, but hey like they said, high risk, high reward.

Which players from the relegated teams can you see being bought by Premier League teams (or first division teams of other leagues)?

From QPR, I can see Austin surely going to some PL club. Newcastle? Also, Fer and Barton - they have been decent.

From Burnley, nobody other than Ings stands a chance. Okay, Trippier probably.

Hull have some decent players, too. N'Doye is a good striker, I like Brady and Robertson too.

I think people have finally realised Caulker is not that good. Not every year he will find a PL team after he gets his own team relegated.

Bought him twice. First time, (c) and a red card vs QPR. Second time, three blanks in a row.

When you have a terrible season (like the one I had this year), there are certain reasons why that happened. Sometimes it is failure to build TV early in the season, bandwagon fails, or sometimes it is just wrong choices.

For me, this season has been singularly defined by bad selling. And amazingly, I have always just been one week due from the hauls.

Early in the season, started with Sanchez in my team, sold exactly when he started performing, then came Stones (7 points in 6 games), after I sold him, the fecker has 4.6 ppg. Sold Puncheon two weeks back, sold Sigurdsson and Silva one week back.

I know I've made a lot of mistakes, but here's to hoping that next season holds a little bit of luck for me.

Signing off. And will be back for the summer.

    Morning lads!

Which last move of the season?

    A) Ameobi to Milner (and bench Kane or Vary)
    B) Dawson to Kolarov or Terry (also have Ivan)
    C) Kane to Gomis

    Davis
    Bellerin, Skrtel, Ivan
    Hazard, Silva, Sanchez, Ramsey
    Aguero, Kane, Vardy

    1.2 in the bank
