Dugout Discussion – Man United Vs Tottenham

It’s here. The new Premier League season is upon us and begins within the fitting confines of the “theatre of dreams”.

Old Trafford hosts the season opener, as Louis van Gaal’s freshly sculpted Manchester Untied lineup host Tottenham.

It’s a lip-smacking, sun drenched prospect, played on a billiard table of a surface, with an array of Fantasy talent on show.

Immediately we hope to assess the prospects of both Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane – two protagonists who will surely play some part in our seasons, if not our Gameweek 1 lineups.

Following that, we’ve a quartet of three o’clock kick-offs and a tea-time date with the champions.

It’s great to be back.

    I believe it might not be an assist because the rules for an OG assist aren't the same as a goal assist.

      There's been stranger assists given the last couple of years. He's there to "facilitate" the own goal. It should be an assist.

      As a biased non Rooney owner, I would agree, but I can't discount my bias. He did nothing with the ball to earn an assist. In hockey, though, he would get an assist for the touch.

        Yes it is.

        Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the final pass before a goal is scored. An assist is awarded whether the pass was intentional (that it actually creates the chance) or unintentional (that the player had to dribble the ball or an inadvertent touch or shot created the chance).

        Yeah but I'm the rules for normal goals there is an elaboration saying inadvertent touches count. I imagine that is extended to OGs

      Well, you can't call it a pass, but I doubt Walker would have scored the own goal if Rooney hadn't been there/touched the ball.

      Should be an assist. Probably won't be.
