Welcome to our annual attempt to select the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will pan out.

Unlike previous attempts, last year saw a number of successful predictions from the Scouts. Granville was correct in predicting a stellar debut season for Diego Costa, Danny Ings and Gylfi Sigurdsson, while Jordan Henderson rewarded my faith in him as a budget midfielder.

Naturally we didn’t get it right all the time and there were some noticeable horror predictions. Andre Schurrle’s departure from Chelsea meant Mark’s guess that he would be the year’s best differential proved ill-fated. Nikica Jelavic, meanwhile, failed to live up to the hype generated by Ryan as being the top scoring budget forward of the year.

Here’s the link if you want to remind yourself just how reliable our soothsaying powers can be.

Hopefully in our latest predictions for the forthcoming Premier League our embarrassing picks will be consigned to the past for good.

    Best option for cheap bench?

    A - targett and bentalab
    B - wanyama and s.taylor

Thanks in advance, would appreciate any logic/reasoning behind the preference.

No Logic or reason can be there for a cheap bench...you can just hope none of them play in your FPL Team...so go with anyone...

Mentioned this yesterday.. Members check Wanyama's stats from 2013 vs 2014 . Pen box touches, Shots in the box, Chances Created and even Average position. While not earth shattering the difference is pretty interesting. Want to discuss it but not sure if i can (we need a members specific forum too just for these kind of discussions 🙁 )

Nobody will do that. They'll end up selling a 4.2 priced midfielder.

good point.. though Clasie is defensive too while Schneiderlin had a habit of bombing forward. Wanyama looked pretty attacking in preseason(for a holding mid)

That doesn't make his whole midfield weak. Mahrez is a great option IMO, and something has to give when your budget is 100m

I could change Westwood, Tekkers and Pelle > Mane, Sakho, Wilson and play 3-5-2 wk 1 with Sakho on the bench.
Then I can decide between Mahrez, Wllson and Sakho each week for the last spot.

Bellerin > Monreal. There's absolutely no reason to pick Bellerin over Monreal now that their price is the same, for goodness sake.

That's just a ridiculously wrong, and misguided opinion. Monreal has higher points per minute and is a lot more efficient in attacking. He also scored a goal in the FA Cup, involved in 2 goals in the FA Cup final etc.

You're just relying on the impression the Bellerin is younger and faster.

I'd say they are both equally prone to rotation but Bellerin is much more attacking.

    Early morning RMT!

    Rudd - Ruddy

    Azpi - Cedric - Mertesacker - Huth - STaylor

    Hazard - Sterling - Ozil - Mahrez - Sinclair

    Rooney - Benteke - Pelle

Will probably be rotating Mahrez and Sinclair based on fixtures.

    Thoughts?

he gives the guaranteed starts. My theory is that while Surman is not 100% nailed, he has a spot to lost and isn't very likely to fall quickly with such low ownership, while offering far more attacking threat. I have two playing defenders on the bench anyway worst case scenario

I'm just looking at the fact he got 4g, 1a a few seasons ago in PL. I think he only manages 3 assists last season in championship but I'd be surprised if Fletcher registers anything this season

                Eh. As a fifth mid I'd prefer a 100% nailed, 0g 2a Fletcher over a 80% nailed 2g 2a Surman.

I wouldn't. Will be wc'ing fairly early and will have playing defenders backing up anyway 😉

Surman nicks a goal/assist early and he becomes a bandwagon for casuals

Each to their own. If you are wcing early it's probably worth the risk. I think people over-emphasis the need for an attacking 4.5 mid, you'll probably only need them twice or three times max over the season, the chances of them getting attacking returns in those exact fixtures you need them is very slim, your main concern should be nailedness. I'd take a sure 2-3 points coming in over 0-3

I want a less attacking player..so that I don't have benching issue...Fletcher I know that IF he gets lucky will find 1 goal this season...so he's like a permanent bench player If things go wrong will get me 2 points at the end of the day

Somebody knock some sense into me. So much #yolo here and I am not 100% on early WC-ing too. Major problem is how Mahrez, if he flops, is not upgradeable without a hit.

-I am thinking on removing Rooney for Pelle to improve my GKs and MFs (I am sold on this defence).
-I could remove Coates/Francis for a 4.0 and upgrade Wanyama to Sinclair. Since I am a 3-4-3 guy right now.

    Hennessey (McCarthy)
Mertesacker / Cedric / Huth (Francis, Coates)
Hazard / Walcott / Depay / Mahrez (Wanyama)
    Aguero / Rooney / Wilson

Made this point yesterday and shall make it again. Why on earth did scoutpicks go with Bellerin over Monreal? They are both 5.5 and people just go with the impression that Bellerin is young, fast and a "raiding full back" that contributes more to attack. But that's absolutely misguided. Its wrong on FPL terms - Monreal has higher points per minute. And it's also wrong on reality terms - Monreal doesn't attack often, but does so with incredible efficiency and accuracy in final runs/balls.

But you've just admitted it. Monreal doesn't attack often. Bellerin does.

But Monreal does it more efficiently - both in terms of final runs and balls. He scored vs United in FA Cup, involved in first two goals in FA Cup final etc.

Plus, you're a member, go and looks at the underlying stats of Arsenal defenders and you'll see that Monreal is the second most likely to benefit from the BPS changes, after Kos.

Maybe you're right, maybe he has been unfairly overlooked. Though I think there's every reason to believe that Bellerin will only continue to improve.

The ceiling for a top gk is probably 7 points. They rarely make more than 5 saves or get bonus. Plenty of 5.5 defenders with the chance of scoring or assisting, and 4.5 gks can make loads of saves and more likely to face penalties

Long term this season there aren't many 4.0 nailed on but if you're wildcarding early then worth a risk

      latter one...

Although I have gone with 6.0, 5.0, 5.0, 4.5, 4.5 which I think should be spent on Defence
