Welcome to our annual attempt to select the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will pan out.

Unlike previous attempts, last year saw a number of successful predictions from the Scouts. Granville was correct in predicting a stellar debut season for Diego Costa, Danny Ings and Gylfi Sigurdsson, while Jordan Henderson rewarded my faith in him as a budget midfielder.

Naturally we didn’t get it right all the time and there were some noticeable horror predictions. Andre Schurrle’s departure from Chelsea meant Mark’s guess that he would be the year’s best differential proved ill-fated. Nikica Jelavic, meanwhile, failed to live up to the hype generated by Ryan as being the top scoring budget forward of the year.

Here’s the link if you want to remind yourself just how reliable our soothsaying powers can be.

Hopefully in our latest predictions for the forthcoming Premier League our embarrassing picks will be consigned to the past for good.

Here is a thought.. try and keep an open mind
On Wednesday in the pre-Vitesse conference Koeman confirmed that Bertrand will be out for 2-3 weeks. That is a minimum of 3 GWs. Considering the international break is after GW 4 i would not be surprised if Bertrand returns straight after that..
Now, Bear in mind that Saints fixtures turn ugly post GW 4.. (wba MUN SWA che liv) would you really want a defender for that run.
Maybe going Targett instead of Cedric could be a very shrewd move

It's a good point mate. Money is tight now, so a starting 4.0 defender that may be able to be upgraded in a month's time to a nailed on 4.5 defender as a straight swap (or close to it) could be a shrewd move indeed.

That's my plan atm.. Frees up cash for Chadli to Mane too(will be doing the reverse in a few weeks but got to start with Mane!)

If youre starting with Cedric thiugh youre buying him for the long haul. Sticking with him after gw4. Targett is still a transfer waiting to happen. Gw 2 or 8.

With the WC being compulsory in the first half of the season i dont really care about long haul players anymore. Bad run GW 4-10 and i'm planning a WC GW 13 so i can always get him back in

Totally get it about thr mandatory WC. But with so many changes in Sot's back 6 for the start of the season, and their much better displays at home last season, youre really only looking at a guaranteed CSin week 4 vs. NOR anyway. After Targett is out. Presumably.

    Rudd - Ruddy

    Azpi - Cedric - Mertesacker - Huth - STaylor

    Hazard - Sterling - Ozil - Mahrez - Sinclair

    Rooney - Benteke - Pelle

Will probably be rotating Mahrez and Sinclair based on fixtures.

    Thoughts?

Azpi, Huth and Francis. Though non-Toon fans may advise you to play Cedric over Francis.

Just dug up my old defensive rotation spreadsheet from last year. I only maintained it the first 16 weeks, but the results are pretty convincing.
All-cheap defence, only a handful of transfers made on defence during those 16 weeks. The defenders that I fielded averaged 4.3 points per game over that span. To put that in perspective, Ivanovic averaged around 4.7ppg for his whole season.
I'm planning the same kind of all-cheap defence this year (4.5s and 5.0s), so it was good to hear that the two FPL champions in the scoutcast have the same approach.

Final opinion on which pair to go with and start every GW till GW4:

    A) Benteke-Chadli (More explosive, no Liv/Spurs coverage atm)
    B) Sakho-Ozil (Safer pick, already have Wally for ARS coverage atm)

    Cheers all!

Who's playing Foulers this year then? Scout league is looking a bit thin so far…

It's easy to play: select a GK, DEF, MID, STK who you think will pick up a card that week and roll in the 50 (yellow) and 100 (red) point hauls that come rolling in.

Gameweeks work like FPL and you can change the full team each week (or pick for the season and ghostship your way to the upper echelons - Lee Cattermole at the helm)

Very simple. Come and knock me off my perch!

    Dumb question of the morning:

Is the only difference between All-Out-Attack and Bench Boost is that it limits you from getting negative points from defenses that are likely to take a pounding?

all out attack you only play 2 defenders and all 8 attackers; bench boost you play your whole squad

        Thanks...it did sound rather obvious.

Go go Bench Boost. Do your zany thing.

Literally all over the place this year, but really fancy taking this on for the first few game weeks!

    Schmeichel (Butland)
    Bellerin, Azpi, Coleman (Ward, Oxford)
Mane, Hazard, Ozil, Depay, Walcott (C)
    Benteke, Wilson (Deeney)

Little bit different to the other line ups but always prepared to WC if I get it completely wrong.
