Welcome to our annual attempt to select the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will pan out.

Unlike previous attempts, last year saw a number of successful predictions from the Scouts. Granville was correct in predicting a stellar debut season for Diego Costa, Danny Ings and Gylfi Sigurdsson, while Jordan Henderson rewarded my faith in him as a budget midfielder.

Naturally we didn’t get it right all the time and there were some noticeable horror predictions. Andre Schurrle’s departure from Chelsea meant Mark’s guess that he would be the year’s best differential proved ill-fated. Nikica Jelavic, meanwhile, failed to live up to the hype generated by Ryan as being the top scoring budget forward of the year.

Here’s the link if you want to remind yourself just how reliable our soothsaying powers can be.

Hopefully in our latest predictions for the forthcoming Premier League our embarrassing picks will be consigned to the past for good.

I was all set on captaining Walcott, but the closer to the deadline it gets, the more I'm tempted to play it safe GW1 and captain Hazard just to keep up. With this being one of the bigger decisions to make this morning, what are your captain plans for GW1?

Playing it safe. I think I'm going with Rooney or Hazard. Safest is Hazard. Both on pens though

I have the armband on Wally and have Hazard. The returns are so promising and plenty of time to recover if it doesn't come off.

As tempting as Sterling is, I see Arsenal comfortably beating WHU, so an Arsenal mid.

Cheers it's a tough decision to make. Arsenal have better fixtures too. I'm a City fan so it's really tough but I'd lag behind if Arsenal puts a few past West Ham. I asked my Turkish step father (he supports BJL) what kind of manager Bilic was, but I think I might have sent the text too late lol 🙁

Haha the trials and tribulations of trying to synchronise fandom with fantasy football. Well sir, I wish you the best of luck.

Wijnaldum is flying under the radar. Yes, Newcastle's fixtures are poor, but he has looked very sharp in preseason (as sharp as one can in preseason), is a class player and surely somebody's got to score for us? 😛

No defensive coverage is ever essential. 4 points for a clean sheet no matter how you cut it, it's just a matter if you can hit the rotation correctly.

Who is your surprise FPL prospect this year?

I'm not talking just exceeding initial expectations, but someone who comes out of nowhere to be a viable option.

I'm going for Dele Alli at 5.0

Cabaye. J-Rod too, if you count him as a surprise. Just need him to cement a starting spot. Won't take long.

I know the defense looks thin, but would like get your insight:

    Ruddy, Rudd
Wes Morgan / A Williams, Francis / Holebas, Cedric
    Sterling, Ozil, Hazard, Ritchie (Wanyama)
    Rooney, Benteke, Kane

I'd prefer a more attacking option instead of Wanyama, but can't afford it.

you are missing either Mane or Pelle

      1. Dale Cooper
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

Mane is a fine option, but just a bit overpriced for me. As for Pele - not enough slots in attack. I really like Southampton as a team, but the Europa League could be a hinderence and they're a well-balanced team, so there's not a big difference in points return between def and off, when they play well.

I've got the exact set-up. Think it's a bit old school, but like it and am tempted to stick with it nevertheless.

I'm playing Cedric and rotate between Williams / Morgan and Francis / Holebas.
