As explained last week, we’re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead.

This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.
For Gameweek 2, though, here’s our current thinking…

Goalkeepers

West Ham’s resilient showing at Arsenal brings Adrian into consideration – the Spaniard racked up 11 points in the 2-0 win and welcomes Leicester to Upton Park this weekend. Last season’s top scoring keeper, Lukasz Fabianski, is also in our thoughts as Swansea play host to Newcastle.

Defenders

Again, the Hammers are prominent in defence. Aaron Cresswell’s security of starts and attacking potential – two goals and four assists in 2014/15 – make him the prime pick in Slaven Bilic’s rearguard, with some uncertainty still surrounding the rest of the back-four now that Carl Jenkinson is back in the picture.

Martin Skrtel’s propensity for picking up bonus points bring the Slovakian into our squad for Liverpool’s home clash with Bournemouth. At 5.5, though, Skrtel is far pricier than Joe Gomez (4.5), who should keep his starting berth after supplying the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s winner last Sunday.

Southampton’s Cedric Soares is also on our radar for the visit of Everton. The raiding right-back grabbed an assist during last week’s draw at Newcastle, though his half-time withdrawal – as a result of a yellow card – is somewhat disconcerting. Tottenham’s home encounter with Stoke brings Kyle Walker into consideration. Like Soares, he is also priced at 5.0 and seems to have edged ahead of Kieran Trippier for the right-back berth.

Watford’s Miguel Layun was fielded on the left of the attacking midfield three and grabbed a goal in the 2-2 draw at Everton. There’s still concerns over his pitch time but, at 4.5, he’s worth considering at home to West Brom.

United’s Matteo Darmian is our final selection as United make their way to Villa. The right-back’s forages down the flank quickly caught the eye on Saturday, whilst he also chipped in with a clean sheet and a couple of bonus points to suggest he has the form to justify that 5.5 price tag.

Midfielders

Having opened his account with an assist in West Ham’s win at Arsenal, Dimitri Payet is a major contender for the visit of Leicester. Sunderland new boy Jeremain Lens also picked up an assist last time out and will fancy his chances at home to a Norwich defence that shipped three goals at home to Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Sadio Mane’s pace and eye for goal will surely ask questions of Everton backline that shipped two goals at home to Watford in Gameweek 1. Philippe Coutinho is also in the mix after grabbing a goal last weekend, as is Swansea’s new signing Andre Ayew. The Ghanaian fired three shots inside the box at Chelsea last weekend and, at a price of 7.0, is kinder in the budget than team-mate Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Alexis Sanchez’s impressive display off the bench in Arsenal’s home loss to the Hammers will surely have earned him a start away to Palace’s porous defence. On the other side of north London, Christian Eriksen’s underlying stats (three shots, four key passes against United) persuade us to call him up as Spurs welcome Stoke to the Lane.

Forwards

There’s a number of strikers with home comforts jostling for a place in the picks. Bafetimbi Gomis and Graziano Pelle are arguably the form options – both are already off the mark ahead of visits from Newcastle and Everton.

Sitting second in this week’s Captain Poll, Christian Benteke is handed the perfect opportunity to get amongst the goals for Liverpool as Bournemouth roll up to Anfield on Monday night. At 6.5, Diafra Sakho should take advantage of a Leicester backline that conceded two to Sunderland last time out.

Harry Kane is also in the mix as Spurs prepare for the visit of Stoke, whilst Wayne Rooney – top of the Captain Poll for the second week running – is still in consideration as he makes his way to Aston Villa. Rooney will need to improve upon last season’s showings – where he scored one away goal – to barge his way into our final picks, though.

Community Champion

Representing the community in the Scout Picks this week is Daniel Levy – Not the Chairman of Spurs. This is his third season as a Fantasy Premier League manager. After a terrible first season, where he finished with a rank of 1,802,706 he completed the 2014/15 campaign with a far more respectable rank of 39,403. Like many of the FFScout community, Gameweek 1 was one to forget, as he scored just 33 points.

Gameweek 1 Community Champion Fuzzy Warbles’ faith in Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez proved the difference as he got the Community off to a winning start. While the Scout Picks mustered just 26 points, Fuzzy accrued 38 and takes an early lead in the race for the £100 Amazon voucher for the Champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2015/16.

Im thinking of eventually (by GW4) taking Pelle out for Aguero and replacing Sterling with a lower midfielder.

Southampton has decent fixtures and wont be bad to double-up on them for a couple of GWs....

Hmm, not sure about doubling up on Southampton. They looked good, but Pelle is the one to have right now with his current form. I'd get Mane later in the season as a long term pick when Pelle end his scoring streak.

Payet and Ayew offer great value, as does Mahrez. Maybe look at shipping for one of them.

I'd look to get rid of both, but Ramsey this week. Walcott should start at the weekend, and I'd rater have him than Ramsey when both are playing.

Afternoon everyone, would like some opinions on what to do with this. I'm pretty sure I am going to save my FT. Very odd week, don't think we should read too much into it.

    Schmeichel // Hennessey
    Ivanovic // Koscielny // Cedric // Coates // Targett
    Hazard // Walcott // Chadi // Mahrez // Westwood
    Aguero // Pelle // Sakho

Have toyed with a potential WC team, containing Aguero, Hazard, Sanchez and Silva, but I think it's a bit of a waste.

Could get Sanchez in for Walcott, for a hit. Pretty sure Walcott will start this weekend though after the defeat to West Ham, plus it means I can do it for free next week if I save.

    Thoughts?

Indeed, I don't think it is.

Sanchez isn't guaranteed to score, which he would need to do to make it worthwhile. His stats are good, but I think his ownership is low enough to forego him for one more week.

I have a very similar team. Only differences besides the 2 cheap defenders are Ozil (Walcott) and A. Williams (Cedric).

NO WAY should you (we) wild card. Not even take a hit. Just wait til after gw2 to see how things are materializing. One week does not a pattern make.

As you said, Ivan is our "bank" to upgrade the likes of Ozil (Walcott) or Chadli.

Anyone with a Chelsea defender who is considering benching this week is totally off their heads. Fact.

How often does morinho get a cleany away from home against a rival club?
This is his force major, his raison d'être, what his reputation and success is built on.

Either one of 2 things will happen

    A) Chelsea will get a clean sheet
    B) Chelsea will almost get a clean sheet

The best defensive team in Europe are about to go park a bus in front of a team that often struggled to break teams down last year - Sterlings pace should not make a massive impact on that.

It is even arguable that Chelsea are LIKELIER to get a clean shirt in this game rather than virtually any other. They will arrive with defence in mind and they will not push for a winner if it's tied in the 2nd half. Additionally, with city needing the win more due to it being their home match, they WILL push players on to find a winning goal - and they do not have the defensive personnel to handle 3 v 3 / 4 v 4 on the counter.

Play your Chelsea defenders people, play em all.

Can someone explain to me how Southampton players are top of every Watchlist position?

Yes they've got decent fixtures, but they were outplayed for 70 mins at our place, conceded twice and scored two goals that most PL defences would have dealt with easily.

Oh and one of them was subbed off at half time after being given the run around by Obertan...

Well they probably don't base the picks on just the first game of the season either. You're arguing the Southampton players at the top of watchlists because their first game of the season performance at Newcastle wasn't the best. 😕

Anyway, I wouldn't know exactly who's on the watchlist as I don't think I've ever read it...

Agreed,, the Soton hype on here is insane. Watched the game and they dint look "prolific" or "defensively sound" as people assume on here. Cedric and Targett look like liabilities atm and i have 0 confidence in their defense. Their attack has never been know for banging them in(apart from 2-3 games a season) either..

Lots seem to be quoting a stat on how many shots they had, but most of them were never threatening or came in the last 20 when our defence lost its legs totally and Anita had to go off.

Coloccini could barely move by the end of the game.

I think only about 1 percent of ppl on here take the trouble to actually watch the games.. relying too much on stats can only be a bad thing. For eg.. The Arsenal WestHam game was high profile so ppl realised how good Payet is. The stats for the game make him look average

And Cedric looks like he's gonna struggle in the EPL. Made about 3 bookable offenses and just looked uncomfortable defending throughout yet he is all ppl talk about on here. They looked a lot more comfortable when Martina came on

Good form pre season, and their players have great potential in FPL. Arguably the second best defence last year, and there are options from 4.0m-5.0m available. Mane is a great pick in midfield, perfect player for FPL. Pelle scores consistently when he is in form, which he currently is. All their picks are viable, but I agree that they probably shouldn't be top of the watch list.

      1. CABAYE4

Their defence looked leaky this weekend but maybe it'll be better with Bertrand and Caulker in. Cedric however is certainly no Clyne, at least defensively.

Mane is over-hyped on here but I see the allure and I agree Pelle's a good pick. No one would pick them first though.

Thing is people assumed that since they did ok with their spine leaving last season they'd do ok this year too(and i kinda assumed it too). With Cedric looking poor defensively, Bertrand returning when their kind run runs out, Neither Yoshida/Caulker looking too comfortable at CB and with Clasie injured maybe it wont be the same as last year. Their attack was known for being low scoring last year too(apart from a few crazy games).. That being said, After saying all this i'm pretty sure they'll end up winnning 4-0 this weekend 😆

I agree. Their defence would be a lot stronger of they had Forster. That seems to be a factor which most people are overlooking. I still view Cedric as pretty good value right now though, but I'm tempted by Jenkinson if he can get into the team (which he may not do right away after a solid defensive performance from them at the weekend).

Nope, I meant as a replacement for Cedric. Was tempted by him at the start, but he was ineligible for the game against Arsenal so didn't start with him. West Ham played well defensively, so he may not slot back in as easily as anticipated.

I said before season that they are top 6 candidate for me, people laughed. They always had high salary cap, just Pullis was using it for defense only and not wisely. That's why they changed him.

I've learned to be patient but I'm now turning to you all to hopefully remind me to be patient and save my transfer.

Squad so far (Was hoping to bank on Walcott listed as a mid but playing cf last week...oops)

    Schmeicel (schwarzer)

Kolsc Azplicueta, Morgan, (Francis, Baker < switch him to Oxford in the future)

    Hazard, Walcott, Ramsey, Chadli (Richie)

    Benteke, Rooney, (Wilson)

Debating whether to keep it as is, or switch Walcott out for Ayew/Mane/Payet. Most likely I'll drop him the following week for Toure.

30ish. Nice actually, my captain was my highest scoring player si happy with that. Toi bad for Yaya. I had him in my team due to theory that he always score when Kun isn't it.

Was in my original draft and stayed long there, however people here were so against him so I changed first to Mane, than downgraded.

        yours Demba..?

I had terrible week of low 20's. I had yaya in many of my drafts, took him out because sterling signed and I thought he is the better option, schoolboy error

          you have mane?

I'm betting on Sánchez instead of Haz due to fixtures, if that backfires i will just change back to Haz.

I personally wouldn't go with a 20mill frontline but your midfield compensate well for it. You are heavily invested in defenders and I think if you are paying 7mill for a defender you can't bench him. All put together I think your team is different in a good way, very capable of scoring well.

Can anyone give advice on how to rearrange team over next 2 weeks so I can get Aguero?

My thinking was Depay -> Chamberlain and then Rooney -> Aguero

only problem is that that leaves me with Francis for another two weeks. Is it better to swap Francis for someone like Richards before making those changes?
