As explained last week, we’re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead.

This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.
For Gameweek 2, though, here’s our current thinking…

Goalkeepers

West Ham’s resilient showing at Arsenal brings Adrian into consideration – the Spaniard racked up 11 points in the 2-0 win and welcomes Leicester to Upton Park this weekend. Last season’s top scoring keeper, Lukasz Fabianski, is also in our thoughts as Swansea play host to Newcastle.

Defenders

Again, the Hammers are prominent in defence. Aaron Cresswell’s security of starts and attacking potential – two goals and four assists in 2014/15 – make him the prime pick in Slaven Bilic’s rearguard, with some uncertainty still surrounding the rest of the back-four now that Carl Jenkinson is back in the picture.

Martin Skrtel’s propensity for picking up bonus points bring the Slovakian into our squad for Liverpool’s home clash with Bournemouth. At 5.5, though, Skrtel is far pricier than Joe Gomez (4.5), who should keep his starting berth after supplying the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s winner last Sunday.

Southampton’s Cedric Soares is also on our radar for the visit of Everton. The raiding right-back grabbed an assist during last week’s draw at Newcastle, though his half-time withdrawal – as a result of a yellow card – is somewhat disconcerting. Tottenham’s home encounter with Stoke brings Kyle Walker into consideration. Like Soares, he is also priced at 5.0 and seems to have edged ahead of Kieran Trippier for the right-back berth.

Watford’s Miguel Layun was fielded on the left of the attacking midfield three and grabbed a goal in the 2-2 draw at Everton. There’s still concerns over his pitch time but, at 4.5, he’s worth considering at home to West Brom.

United’s Matteo Darmian is our final selection as United make their way to Villa. The right-back’s forages down the flank quickly caught the eye on Saturday, whilst he also chipped in with a clean sheet and a couple of bonus points to suggest he has the form to justify that 5.5 price tag.

Midfielders

Having opened his account with an assist in West Ham’s win at Arsenal, Dimitri Payet is a major contender for the visit of Leicester. Sunderland new boy Jeremain Lens also picked up an assist last time out and will fancy his chances at home to a Norwich defence that shipped three goals at home to Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Sadio Mane’s pace and eye for goal will surely ask questions of Everton backline that shipped two goals at home to Watford in Gameweek 1. Philippe Coutinho is also in the mix after grabbing a goal last weekend, as is Swansea’s new signing Andre Ayew. The Ghanaian fired three shots inside the box at Chelsea last weekend and, at a price of 7.0, is kinder in the budget than team-mate Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Alexis Sanchez’s impressive display off the bench in Arsenal’s home loss to the Hammers will surely have earned him a start away to Palace’s porous defence. On the other side of north London, Christian Eriksen’s underlying stats (three shots, four key passes against United) persuade us to call him up as Spurs welcome Stoke to the Lane.

Forwards

There’s a number of strikers with home comforts jostling for a place in the picks. Bafetimbi Gomis and Graziano Pelle are arguably the form options – both are already off the mark ahead of visits from Newcastle and Everton.

Sitting second in this week’s Captain Poll, Christian Benteke is handed the perfect opportunity to get amongst the goals for Liverpool as Bournemouth roll up to Anfield on Monday night. At 6.5, Diafra Sakho should take advantage of a Leicester backline that conceded two to Sunderland last time out.

Harry Kane is also in the mix as Spurs prepare for the visit of Stoke, whilst Wayne Rooney – top of the Captain Poll for the second week running – is still in consideration as he makes his way to Aston Villa. Rooney will need to improve upon last season’s showings – where he scored one away goal – to barge his way into our final picks, though.

Community Champion

Representing the community in the Scout Picks this week is Daniel Levy – Not the Chairman of Spurs. This is his third season as a Fantasy Premier League manager. After a terrible first season, where he finished with a rank of 1,802,706 he completed the 2014/15 campaign with a far more respectable rank of 39,403. Like many of the FFScout community, Gameweek 1 was one to forget, as he scored just 33 points.

Gameweek 1 Community Champion Fuzzy Warbles’ faith in Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez proved the difference as he got the Community off to a winning start. While the Scout Picks mustered just 26 points, Fuzzy accrued 38 and takes an early lead in the race for the £100 Amazon voucher for the Champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2015/16.

Is Pelle a good (c) choice for gw2. There isn't really any stand out candidates as I don't have benteke, Rooney is the other option.

Spurs or westham attack? But yes, Pelle is a good bet too.

    A) mignolet Hennessy
    Azpili Mert darmain bacuna targett
    Hazard obertan Mahrez Ritchie silva
    Rooney Sakho Tekkers

    B) Romero Hennessy
    Azpili Mert gomez Oxford targett
    Hazard obertan Mahrez Ritchie Sanchez
    Rooney Aguero kone

Basically is it worth having 3 weak defenders, 1 naff striker and a rotation risk goalie for Sanchez and Aguero? The first team has much more balance and is pretty strong with Tekkers, Silva and darmain!

I'm impressed. I've definitely learned my lesson with regards to starting with as many of the big guns as possible. I'm scrambling to get them now and it's gonna take at least one hit.

I'm sure an injury or ban will f things up though 😉

I always think that planning the "spine" of your team is a good thing to do and Kun, Hax and Alexis were mine. The others can then fit in around them depending on who has form. The only bugger this season was Alexis....

I started with Hazard and Kun. One plan I had from the outset was to downgrade Ivan (arguably a big gun) to a defender, to upgrade Ozil to Sanchez.

Would appreciate any thoughts on what I should do this week?

    Myhill / Guzan

    Ivan / Cedric / Huth / Francis / Staylor

    Hazard / Ozil / Sterling / Mane / Fletch

    Rooney / Benteke / Wilson

My gut is to stick and save the ft, give them all another week before getting rid?

    ................Panti
    .....Cedric - Kosc - Kola
    Mane - Fabs - Ozil - Ritchie
    ....Sakho - Kun - Rooney

    Henn; Oxford, Bentaleb, Huth

1 FT, 0 itb..originally wanted to save until I realized Fabs has no set pieces so now thinking Fabs > Chadli or Payet (leaning former because I have Sakho)

What are people's opinion of Gomis?

I might bring him in for -4 for Wilson with Hazard > Payet, helping relieve some funds for Aguero/Sanchez, but not sure if it's worth waiting the extra week on Wilson see if he does something against Liverpool

Would rather get Kun in without using a WC, which means selling Walcott to raise funds narrows options. Discard Hazard for someone cheaper, then get Kun in. That way I still WC card in any of the big hitters down the line when the season is more settled.

      Attack probably something like this:

      Hazard, Sánchez, *******, Mahrez, Westwood.
      Aguero, Benteke, Sakho.

Where ****** is anywhere between Mané & Bolasie depending on your backline.

        This.

I'll probably be going with something similar after next week. That 3rd mid slot could be Yaya for their lovey fixtures, especially if you make Benteke Pelle or Gomis.

Well, based on gw1, yes. However, I still think yaya is not viable. With Aguero on the pitch, his chances are much less.

For me, the decision would come down to Silva + Arsenal mid and the extra $1M for a minor downgrade off of Ivan (as opposed to a downgrade to a 4.5M which is major).

I am currently set up for this:

            Butland, Schmeichel
(Ivan > downgrade), Kos, Williams, Francis, Oxford
Hazard, (Ozil > Sanchez / Silva), Chadli, Mahrez, Westwood
            Aguero, Pelle, Sakho

      Darmian-Lescott-Huth Yoshida-Gomez
      Hazard-Sanchez-Ayew-Mahrez-Albrighton
      Aguero-Gomis-Sakho

I think that works...could make some subs if you don;t like em all, ie)
      Hendo, Tadic for Ayew
      Cedric, Walker for Lescott
      etc, etc

Just play around and tell me what you think.

    Questions after the 1st GW.

    1. Are Arsenal too fragile to trust?
    2. Is Hazard worth 11.5 despite Chelsea being lacklustre?
    3. Is Sanchez a better choice than Hazard?
    4. Is David Silva a must have from the City mids,or is it Yaya?
    5. Should we stick with Theo,a player who will always have an air of uncertainty around his minutes?
    6. Is Joe Gomez a player we should get immediately, because of the team he plays for and his soon to rise low price?
    7. Ayew or Payet or both?
    8. Are West Ham the new Southampton?
    9. Should we keep Wilson and Ritchie for more matches or ditch them for better performers of GW1?
    10. Is Rooney worth 10.5?

      Bloody hell, here goes...

      1. No, give them time. Cech had a poor game, will be getting used to a new back 4.
      2. He will be, but it's debatable whether it's worth waiting it out. May take him a few games to get going.
      3. Let Sanchez play a full game, then decide. Ideally you want both.
      4. Neither are must haves. Aguero is IMO, and Hazard and Sanchez are ideal. Can't fit Silva in too realistically. You could fit Yaya in, but the jury is out on him for me.
      5. I'm sticking for a week, will probably sell for Sanchez before GW3.
      6. Risky, but could pay off. You just have to accept some games he will not start.
      7. Both good options, depends if you have Gomis and/or Sakho. Wouldn't double up on either atm.
      8. We need to monitor, but they could offer good value defensively, and offensively.
      9. I'd get rid, but they may come good.
      10. No

Hardly low considering the league we play in.

Yes we aren't a top four club but have made significant progress under Hughes and pulled out all the stops to convince Shaqiri to sign.

We are hardly relegation fodder and deserve some sort of praise. We aren't the same unit anymore, we are better. A great management team and state of the art facilities. Comfortably mid table side pushing the top 8 and then Europa.

Harsh to say we are a fall for him really

        1. He could've joined a better team. This isn't a washed-up player.

        2. He did say he wasn't interested. What changed? He saw he wasn't a vital cog to Inter Milan. Serie A was never meant for him.

        3. Lol.... Bayern Munich, Inter Milan..... Stoke??

Mid table side..... He came from champions. While Inter may not currently be the same team that won the Champions League, they are still a team that won the league 5 times in the past decade. Stoke isn't Inter and much less Bayern Munich.

I'd say very precise to say Stoke are a graveyard to Shaqiri.
