As explained last week, we’re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead.

This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.
For Gameweek 2, though, here’s our current thinking…

Goalkeepers

West Ham’s resilient showing at Arsenal brings Adrian into consideration – the Spaniard racked up 11 points in the 2-0 win and welcomes Leicester to Upton Park this weekend. Last season’s top scoring keeper, Lukasz Fabianski, is also in our thoughts as Swansea play host to Newcastle.

Defenders

Again, the Hammers are prominent in defence. Aaron Cresswell’s security of starts and attacking potential – two goals and four assists in 2014/15 – make him the prime pick in Slaven Bilic’s rearguard, with some uncertainty still surrounding the rest of the back-four now that Carl Jenkinson is back in the picture.

Martin Skrtel’s propensity for picking up bonus points bring the Slovakian into our squad for Liverpool’s home clash with Bournemouth. At 5.5, though, Skrtel is far pricier than Joe Gomez (4.5), who should keep his starting berth after supplying the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s winner last Sunday.

Southampton’s Cedric Soares is also on our radar for the visit of Everton. The raiding right-back grabbed an assist during last week’s draw at Newcastle, though his half-time withdrawal – as a result of a yellow card – is somewhat disconcerting. Tottenham’s home encounter with Stoke brings Kyle Walker into consideration. Like Soares, he is also priced at 5.0 and seems to have edged ahead of Kieran Trippier for the right-back berth.

Watford’s Miguel Layun was fielded on the left of the attacking midfield three and grabbed a goal in the 2-2 draw at Everton. There’s still concerns over his pitch time but, at 4.5, he’s worth considering at home to West Brom.

United’s Matteo Darmian is our final selection as United make their way to Villa. The right-back’s forages down the flank quickly caught the eye on Saturday, whilst he also chipped in with a clean sheet and a couple of bonus points to suggest he has the form to justify that 5.5 price tag.

Midfielders

Having opened his account with an assist in West Ham’s win at Arsenal, Dimitri Payet is a major contender for the visit of Leicester. Sunderland new boy Jeremain Lens also picked up an assist last time out and will fancy his chances at home to a Norwich defence that shipped three goals at home to Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Sadio Mane’s pace and eye for goal will surely ask questions of Everton backline that shipped two goals at home to Watford in Gameweek 1. Philippe Coutinho is also in the mix after grabbing a goal last weekend, as is Swansea’s new signing Andre Ayew. The Ghanaian fired three shots inside the box at Chelsea last weekend and, at a price of 7.0, is kinder in the budget than team-mate Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Alexis Sanchez’s impressive display off the bench in Arsenal’s home loss to the Hammers will surely have earned him a start away to Palace’s porous defence. On the other side of north London, Christian Eriksen’s underlying stats (three shots, four key passes against United) persuade us to call him up as Spurs welcome Stoke to the Lane.

Forwards

There’s a number of strikers with home comforts jostling for a place in the picks. Bafetimbi Gomis and Graziano Pelle are arguably the form options – both are already off the mark ahead of visits from Newcastle and Everton.

Sitting second in this week’s Captain Poll, Christian Benteke is handed the perfect opportunity to get amongst the goals for Liverpool as Bournemouth roll up to Anfield on Monday night. At 6.5, Diafra Sakho should take advantage of a Leicester backline that conceded two to Sunderland last time out.

Harry Kane is also in the mix as Spurs prepare for the visit of Stoke, whilst Wayne Rooney – top of the Captain Poll for the second week running – is still in consideration as he makes his way to Aston Villa. Rooney will need to improve upon last season’s showings – where he scored one away goal – to barge his way into our final picks, though.

Community Champion

Representing the community in the Scout Picks this week is Daniel Levy – Not the Chairman of Spurs. This is his third season as a Fantasy Premier League manager. After a terrible first season, where he finished with a rank of 1,802,706 he completed the 2014/15 campaign with a far more respectable rank of 39,403. Like many of the FFScout community, Gameweek 1 was one to forget, as he scored just 33 points.

Gameweek 1 Community Champion Fuzzy Warbles’ faith in Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez proved the difference as he got the Community off to a winning start. While the Scout Picks mustered just 26 points, Fuzzy accrued 38 and takes an early lead in the race for the £100 Amazon voucher for the Champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2015/16.

i'd assess Arsenal next game before transferring him in. That Arsenal midfield is far too congested, everyone seems to running into each other in the box, it's a bit chaotic atm. Also, Sanchez doesn't return the numbers when playing out wide on the left.

I was thinking about my WC team on GW4 or something, that's my first draft and i need opinions.

    Ruddy (or Guzan) / Hennessey
    Williams / Cedric / Tomkins (or any 5.0) / O'shea / Targett
    Hazard / Cabaye / Chadli / Sanchez / Mahrez
    Kun / Gomis / Sakho

    PAYET VERSUS AYEW

Seems to be a lot of chat on this. For information I found this out:

    Last three seasons:

    Payet
    App Goals Assists
    36 7 21 (Basic Pts 98)
    36 8 6 (Points 58)
    38 12 18 (points 114)

    Ayew
    App Goals Assists
    28 10 6 (points 68)
    25 6 3 (points 39)
    35 9 4 (points 57)

    Both based in Ligue 1
Interesting reading considering a lot of talk is that Ayew scores more

    1. Somalion
      • 15 Years

      Goals per appearance.

      Payet:
      0.19
      0.22
      0.31

      Ayew:
      0.35
      0.24
      0.25

So to my eye Ayew is a better/more consistent goal scorer and Payet has dipped from 0.31 to 0.19 while, if anything, Ayew has improved.

Both great options in my opinion, and could well wind up being two massive players to own this season.

I'm tempted by both but I like Gomis too as an option
I just think the assists outweigh the extra goals if you look at points?
Or am I mistaken based on PPG...

Issue is bonus points as well, Ayew if he scores will more likely get bps than Payet with an assist. It seemed as if Ayew is given a lot of responsibility to get into the box and shoot.

Both are great, though Sakho could benefit big time from someone like Payet in the side I reckon. As will Gomis, no doubt.

Yeah Payet's key passes stats are impressive so maybe that means sakho and Ayew is the way to go. Plus sakho and Ayew is £1m cheaper. And I don't think I could trust two Swansea or two west game attacking players

                10 years, 4 months ago

This is the thing, it is vital to pick which pair you fancy if you don't like a double up (understandable at the moment, early days and whatnot). I'm going for similar, as I reckon Payet enhances Sakho and Swansea's tactic enhance Ayew. Of course, I'm bound to be wrong 😛

I did Walcott to Payet which means a guaranteed Walcott hat trick 🙂

5 goals and 10 assists in 21 apps in the Ukranian league? Season before was 5 goals and 4 assists in 28.

Was terrific at Eindhoven, but 2 seasons on I wonder if he perhaps was one of the many who performed well in the Dutch league and maybe not so well elsewhere.

Will keep an eye though, as I will with Wijnaldum.

Cedric being in these picks strikes me as wishful thinking from his owners that happen to be moderators.

Roasted by that rubbish winger. A defensive liability that's not good enough. Call it removing him because he was on a yellow all you like.

Yes. This is kind of comment that goes ignored/is derided.

He wasn't subbed because he was on a yellow. He was on a yellow because he was so out of his depth, and subbed because of it.

I guess if he starts this week he's good enough for the picks at least but as above I don't think he'll make it. We'll have to see who wanted him in 🙂

Agree. Koeman is a measured guy and won't want to kick him when he is down. Hardly an A1 fantasy pick tho

I would never expect a manager with vested interests in the success of a player to be so forthright as admitting to the reasons behind the substitution but if you watch the game he was being killed out there.

YCs are a common event. How often is it you sub someone with half the game to go because they have one? He didn't have the aptitude to de with his opponent and that's why there was such a risk of a further card.

P.s. I wasn't having a go at mods. You pointing out the one-eyesness of fantasy managers on this board. It has become received wisdom that he was subbed because he was on a yellow. Misses the point altogether

I know you weren't having a go, I was just joining in the discussion because I'm interested 🙂

Seen plenty of players subbed because of a yellow but you're right in saying that doesn't usually happen at HT. Be interesting to see whether he does continue then, sounds like he had a right nightmare.

I've seen it happen too but normally only when dealing with psychos like Cattermole 🙂 a defender by trade should be expected to have better discipline

I dont think many people watched the game.. and i dunno why they think that him being taken off because he could not handle Obertan in his first EPL game is a good thing ie "atleast he was not injured" . Does not bode well for his future if he cant defend.. Martina came on and looked calm and composed and did a lot better. not saying he'll start ahead of Cedric yet but it does not bode well. alot of people who watched Cedric play at Sporting tried to warn people during preseason but no one listened

You got my transfer finger realy itching now Breadbin. Got Mings and Coates as well, who also may not start. But maybe Cedric out for e.g. Jenkinson or Alderweireld shoul be the priority.

Opinions on what I should do for next Gameweek please

    Cech (Schwarzer)

    Azpi Gomez Francis (Targett, Baker)

    Walcott Depay Hazard Henderson (Wanyama)

    Rooney Pelle Benteke

Not sure if I should stick with Walcott and Depay for another Gameweek. I was thinking if I bought a couple of cheaper midfielders I can switch Rooney for Aguero and upgrade Francis over the next few weeks as there don't seem to be any good £4.5m defenders.

Someone suggested going for Ayew/Payet. Is Chamberlain not a good punt at £6m? Thought he looked sharp in pre season.
