Southampton’s Jordy Clasie suffers an injury setback. Arsene Wenger welcomes back Hector Bellerin ahead of the Crystal Palace trip. Swansea’s Ki Sung-Yeung is set to return to training following injury, whilst David de Gea remains unavailable for selection for United.

Hector Bellerin is back in the Arsenal squad after missing the opening day loss to West Ham with a muscle injury. Meanwhile, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky remain sidelined for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that Alexis Sanchez is ready for the weekend, having worked hard during the week.

Newcastle will have Vurnon Anita available for the Swansea clash, with the midfielder returning to training this week after being stretchered off in the stalemate with Southampton. The weekend, however, will come too soon for Paul Dummett and Remy Cabella who remain out with hamstring and thigh injuries respectively.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that midfielder Jordy Clasie is out for two to three weeks with an ankle injury sustained whilst playing for the Under 21s in midweek. Fellow summer signing Steven Caulker is also ruled out for the weekend with a sinus infection. Koeman remains hopeful that Ryan Bertrand could return to training in two weeks.

Tim Sherwood has conceded that Jack Grealish, Carles Gil and Jores Okore remain sidelined through injury for Villa’s encounter with United tonight.

Roberto Martinez issued some encouraging news ahead of Everton’s trip to Southampton. Gerard Deulofeu, Mo Besic and Aiden McGeady are all expected to be available after missing the season opener with Watford, whilst Kevin Mirallas was due to return to train yesterday after recovering from the ankle problem that forced him off last Saturday. Leighton Baines is out for 12 to 14 weeks, however, after undergoing ankle surgery.

Watford duo Steven Berghuis and Almen Abdi have returned to training after missing last weekend’s draw with Everton through injury. The pair are expected to be available for the weekend, Quique Sanchez Flores has suggested.

Despite reports of his arrest last week, Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Diafra Sakho has trained normally during the week, and forward is available for selection against the Foxes. Elsewhere, Pedro Obiang has returned to training for the Hammers and is in contention for the weekend.

Spurs have a fully-fit squad for the visit of Stoke, according to Mauricio Pochettino. Hugo Lloris and Danny Rose are in contention for first-team returns, whilst Andros Townsend and Alex Pritchard are also available after recovering from injuries.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Peter Odemwingie is ruled out for two weeks with a hamstring injury. Fellow attacker Bojan is expected to step up his recovery with a run-out for the reserves at the weekend. Hughes is also optimistic that Marko Arnautovic and Marc Wilson will be available for the Spurs trip, after injury setbacks suffered at the start of the season.

Swansea midfielder Ki Sung-yeung is set to train after limping off with a hamstring injury against Chelsea last weekend – Garry Monk is expected to make a late decision on his fitness. Defender Jordi Amat is back and available for selection after recovering from a broken metatarsal suffered at the end of last season.

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that David De Gea remains unavailable for selection, due to ongoing transfer speculation. Marcos Rojo remains short of fitness and won’t be considered for the trip to Villa Park.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Who are you captaining in Gameweek 2 and why?

For me this looks to be one of the trickiest weeks. Probably Mane or Benteke for me.

      Benteke I think.

Saints fan, and I feel Tekkers is more of a safe bet than Mane to Everton. But I have both so I'm happy.

Most likely Rooney as he loves a goal against Villa and is playing on a big Friday night. Also considering Kane, will look to get a goal to get his season underway and is playing Stoke with no Shawcross.

He hasn't scored at Villa Park in the league for nine years so I'm told via Twitter. He loves to score against them at home, away he's not so keen.

Villa haven’t beaten United at home for two decades, drawing seven and losing 12 of their last 19 attempts.
Man United have won more matches against Villa than any other single opponent in PL history (32).
Wayne Rooney has scored more goals past Villa than any other PL team (13).

Could be time to break his duck at villa park!

I think I'd go Kane if I had him. I'm wondering if its even worth swapping Rooney for him this week. Ordinarily I should want to captain Rooney v Villa but I'm not which makes me think why do I own him?

Its a tough one between Rooney Pelle and Sakho. I think im going to go with Pelle because his form is hard to ignore. Its hard to not go with rooney though but I feel his price is blinding.

I think having Sakho regardless is a differential, so the need to captain him isn't as high, especially when I feel he's the riskiest of the 3.

Benteke. Because what's the point in owning him if you aren't going to captain him at home to one of the newly promoted sides.

To give a proper argument, he's the nailed on main man up front for a top six team against a newly promoted side who looked vulnerable to direct balls last week, which should play into Tekker's hands

      Mane.

Reasons: Everton defence is typical of a Martinez team. Mane capable of very big scores.

Reasons against Benteke: Not sure he'll be the right fit for Liverpool. Need to see he belongs before giving him the armband.

Gomis. Lone striker against a defensively weak side. Monk has said that Swansea are going to be very positive and attacking this season, and Gomis is the focal point of that. He has some strong creativity behind him in Siggy and Ayew, had great stats last week at Stamford Bridge, and is on pens. I also need to make up some ground from last week, and a 3.5% owned player with the armband seems like a great way to do that 😀

Benteke. The reason he was in my team from the start was for the GW2 captaincy. I still think he'll do very well in this fixture, so I'm sticking to that - its very hard to pick a player based on form at this point.

Kane or Pellé for me. Rooney is my third forward but playing away and unsure form so no. I should probably go with Pellé because ha has form and will likely not blank. But I feel Kane has potential for a bigger score on the right day. Hmm...

Starting to ponder about handing in the armband to one of Mane or Ozil.

I was all set to give the armband to Rooney till this morn, now all of a sudden this stat that he hasn't scored away at Villa Park for the last nine years starting to pinch me at the back. First saw it in here, now it's being uttered in FFS as well. Phew!

Any suggestions one what you would have (or will) done if you were (or are) in my position ?

Pele for me- think he provides more of a goal threat than Mane for me.

      My other options are:

Rooney: Previous away form against Villa is slightly off putting and Utd looked sluggish going forward last week, definitely feel that the tempo needs to be increased there, I imagine it will as the season progresses but don't think they will be quite there tonight.

Benteke: Looking for him to score on his home debut, but the game wont be as cut and dry as many seem to think. Could have a massive game or could be a dud. Toss up between him and Pele for me really.

Kane - Spurs playing @home and even though he was a bit abandoned last week, he did look lethal whenever he got the ball...also not such a popular pick, might prove to be a differential in the week when a lot are going with Benteke/Pelle/Rooney etc..

      Wijnaldum.

      -On Freekicks
-Possibly, even likely id say on pens
-was set up terrificly in the box last game
-playing an easier team than last week defensively
-i cant see newcastle getting shutout so someone has to score
      -lad runs the team
-he saw great service for his goal and should've had a brace with his chance in the seventh minute
-oh and his goal was class
-great preseason so not rusty especially with how he stormed into the season
-Wideopen week so best time to do a punt with the armband, no clear captaincy option

I've done Walcott to Payet with my FT. Sat through all the debate about price drops, but for me the reasons for making the change were beyond value:

    1. He's not a regular 90 minute player, and 9m is too much money to invest in a 60/30 minute player.
    2. Palace away won't be easy, neither will Liverpool at home. Payet has LEI, BOU in the same weeks.
    3. The extra 1.5m can be put to excellent use in a following week.
    4. Finally, avoiding the drop is a bonus but even if I'd waited until after the deadline, I would have had to make a blind transfer before tonight's surely inevitable drop, not knowing Walcott's performance or the injury/position status of his rushed replacement after this week.

He could very well grab a goal this weekend, but I can't hold a £9m player for weeks, not knowing whether he'll play or not and hoping for a points explosion.

    1. FrankH
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

Agree with you hector, can be explosive but if can't be sure he's not playing weekly what's the point. May kick us in the ass but I'm definitely not taking the chance and be left with bench fodder coming on instead some weeks and a point off the bench other game weeks . My team is above is it ok for this week do you think

I know this was mentioned before season started but has anyone made a 2nd team after GW1 to save a wildcard and get a better idea at where things are at?

It hurts my head sometimes to think that now is the end of the day for some and that after I finish work you will wake up to watch football over your tea and toast.

Fascinated to see how West Ham perform in a game where counter attack won't be their strategy.

    Ruddy(Hennessey)
    Cedric, Morgan, Huth (Turner, Francis)
    Haz, Sterling, Depay, Walcott, Ritchie
    Rooney, Deeney (Wilson)

    3.5m in the bank

    A) Walcott > Mane
    B) Walcott > Henderson
