The Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Everton

Saturday’s events get underway with a clash between Southampton and Everton at St Mary’s this lunchtime. Both sides are looking for a first win of the new campaign after registering 2-2 draws with Newcastle and Watford last weekend.

The Saints proved a reliable source of defensive returns at home last year, chalking up 11 clean sheets in front of their own fans and conceding a mere 13 times – only Chelsea (nine) proved more miserly.

After netting twice at St James’ Park last week, they’ll be looking to take advantage of a Toffees backline devoid of the injured Leighton Baines. Certainly, given that the visitors managed just two clean sheets on their travels last season, those backing the Saints at both ends of the pitch will fancy their chances of getting amongst the points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Around 5 years till Barkley and Lukaku hit their peaks, would be nice if they were both still at Everton for that

Mmm, the 5.0 market aint that flush with options and Norwich, Watford and West Brom up next. I can't see Koeman allowing the goals to keep flowing, he'll shore it up.

They need another CB though, clearly.

I agree, but will injuries force his hand? Might even force myself to upgrade to a 5.5. I'm sure this is just a gut reaction to that result.

they need another CB ASAP! bertrand needs to come back also another strong defensive MID which they have romeu there for. Koeman a great manger and hes going to clean up shop there.

yoshida is awful a long with targett.

Mane has proven end product, unless 11 goals last season were a fluke.

Just an awful day at the office for Southampton, badly timed for our seasons.

I need to sell either Mane or Pelle to fund Aguero - was going Rooney/Pelle to Aguero/Vardy GW4. Will likely stick to that.

Got 2 free transfers and want to overhaul a lot of my squad

    A) Use two or three and gradually change week by week
    B) 8 or 12 point hit
    C) Wildcard

We could say the same for the Arsenal and Chelsea defence, though, if they concede again in GW2.

I'd be worried if Southampton had awful fixtures and, don't get me wrong, I'll be planning a Cedric exit if there aren't signs of improvement, but the fixtures buy us some time to get more data.
