This weekend’s swan song fixture pits Leicester City against Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes are unbeaten through the first four Gameweeks and have lost just once in their previous 13 league outings. The Villains, meanwhile, are without a win in three, most recently drawing 2-2 at home to Sunderland.

Leicester’s forward line is in fine fettle at the start of this campaign, ranking joint-third for goals scored (eight) and claiming the third best shot conversion rate (17.4%). Although they’re yet to earn a clean sheet, the East Midlands club has performed competently at the back, too, conceding just four big chances in as many outings.

Notwithstanding their away win over Bournemouth in the opening Gameweek, Villa have hit the target just five times on their travels, offering encouragement for investors in the Foxes’ back line. Likewise, the Black Cats will be emboldened by the fact that only Newcastle United have fashioned fewer attempts (11) in their home matches than Leicester (14).

Players being brought in the fastest...

    1. Kolarov
    2. Naismith
    3. Blind
    4. Martial
    5. Barkley

Everyone on here has Kolarov but make the other four your shortlist, the way this season is going.

    1. The Royal Robin
      11 years, 1 month ago

Admittedly I've got Martial in but Naismith really is a strange one isn't it? He scored a hat-trick and had a good spell last season but there's no way he's going in my team any time soon.

I have Kompany rather than Kolarov. Barkley is a must too.

I think a similar thing happened last season with Naismith, he scored a few in a few games, got a few starts under his belt, then fell away a bit. I have a feeling the same might happen again (That is before GW 10 onwards)

I wonder how people react if the league stays as unpredictable as it has for the first five weeks, for the next month or so, maybe even longer?

Do you think a lot of the casuals will keep their teams alive for a longer part of the season?

I guess so, I'm in a ML with people from work, there are around 15 of us, and I kind of expect some people to give it up over time, but a lot of them are very enthusiastic about it and I can remember having at least 1 or 2 good weeks this season so far.

Yep, its not a bad thing, just means more weak teams to overtake for longer - a longer, more sustained run of green arrows incoming for proper players.

Quite a few of the current leaders appear to be City supporters, and it is interesting how many of them have decided to field a triple City defence.

Perhaps it is just that there are a lot of City supporters who play FPL, but only the ones with a triple City defence find themselves currently at the top. There are also a few non-City supporters who have also decided to do this.

Some of the leaders have got there by using their Bench Boost or Triple Captain chip early. but not all of them.

Also notice how volatile the current leader board is - the current top 17 all have green arrows.

Casuals is just a deprecating term for those who do things differently and are currently having more success than most of us here.

There is more than one way to play this game. Some players who play it differently from the accepted wisdom of this site are called mavericks, and others are called casuals.

Some of the current high-flyers may have got where they are through lucky initial selections, but others may be better players than we are giving them credit for.

      1. Claudio With A Chance Of Me…
        11 years, 1 month ago

I don't mean to use it in a negative way, but I assumed casuals was just the label given to people who just designated less time to researching the best players, value....etc.

That's what it ought to mean, but there are quite a few here who seem to assume that all the players who have started well this season must be casuals who just got lucky, and that they do not deserve their high rankings because they haven't been playing in the way that this site recommends.
