Eden Hazard’s security of starts is now under threat. City’s attack flourish without Sergio Aguero, Anthony Martial’s versatility is a problem, whilst Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to rotate is benefitting Fantasy managers. Here’s the lessons learned from this weekend’s matches…

Hazard’s season goes from bad to worse…
Saturday’s team sheet at home to Villa sent shockwaves through the Fantasy community after the Belgian was benched for the first time in a league match under Jose Mourinho. A goal and two assists in his previous three had persuaded Hazard’s owners to hold in the hope that his sluggish start to the season would soon be a thing of the past but with his minutes now in question, the exodus is picking up pace. A spot on the bench against Dynamo Kiev in midweek may well be the final straw.

We’ve woken up to Wijnaldum…
The Dutchman’s stunning four-goal haul kick-started Newcastle’s kind run of matches in style as they grabbed a much-needed first win of the season. Wijnaldum’s display against Norwich means he’s now notched 20 times since August 2014 – that’s more than any midfielder in Europe over that period. The Dutchman looks essential to Steve McClaren’s chances of steering his side to safety and, at 6.8, has emphatically announced himself as a viable option for our five-man midfields.

City have more than enough without Aguero…
A 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth dispelled any theories that the league leaders would struggle without Sergio Aguero on board. With David Silva also missing, Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to move to 4-4-2 paid off as front pair Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Bony ran riot against the beleaguered Cherries. City look full of goals right now and the Chilean’s penchant for playing with the handbrake off will keep their main men in contention, regardless of Aguero’s availability.

The Vardy bandwagon isn’t slowing…
A late brace at St Mary’s broke Southampton’s hearts and rescued another point for Claudio Ranieri’s never-say-die Leicester. At some point, the returns are bound to dry up for Vardy but, for now, his output is actually improving – he’s brought home his three highest hauls of the season in the last three Gameweeks. Having blanked in just one of nine appearances, that 35% ownership looks set to soar again, with the Foxes striker front of the queue for transfers in once more this week.

Mahrez has made his point….
Omitted from the first XI for the second match in succession, Mahrez’ half-time introduction was pivotal in inspiring his side’s comeback against the Saints. Having laid on three chances and provided the assist for Vardy’s last-gasp equaliser, the Algerian’s display will surely have given Claudio Ranieri food for thought as the Foxes prepare for the weekend visit of Palace. Despite their weekend showing, the Foxes have just one win in four now and Mahrez has surely done enough to earn a recall at home to the Eagles.

Martial’s versatility is a problem…
Shifted onto the left flank as Wayne Rooney was handed the lone striker role, the United youngster failed to find the net for the third successive Gameweek in a 3-0 win at Goodison. The third most popular striker in FPL, with an ownership of 30%, Martial’s ability to offer options on the flank is now proving detrimental to his Fantasy prospects and with Ander Herrera staking a claim for the role in “the hole” with a weekend goal and assist, Louis van Gaal isn’t short of options. With Memphis Depay benched and Juan Mata hauled off at the break, the United attack is becoming increasingly difficult to predict as Van Gaal looks for a winning formula.

Wenger’s suddenly not keen on rotation…
Despite the upcoming Champions League encounter with Bayern, the Gunners manager was reluctant to tinker with a winning line-up away to Watford. Wenger chose not to rest the likes of Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin at the back, whilst Theo Walcott yet again kept ahead of Olivier Giroud up top against the Hornets. In a weekend where Chelsea and United’s teamsheets raised an eyebrow, Wenger’s consistency of selection is proving reassuring for Fantasy managers.

Giroud isn’t going to allow us or Wenger to settle on Walcott…
Afforded yet another cameo off the bench, the Frenchman took his tally to three strikes in the last five Gameweeks – despite playing a mere 86 minutes over that period. Giroud may be playing second fiddle to Theo Walcott for the lone striker role right now but is still proving more prolific, with the England international notching just twice over that period by comparison. Wenger has now started Walcott in the last six league matches but Giroud is clearly not giving up without a fight.

Ozil’s consistency can make the difference…
With Alexis Sanchez running riot in recent weeks and Walcott’s out of position role also catching the eye, the German has remained under most Fantasy radars. Two assists against the Hornets, allied with maximum bonus, saw Ozil serve up back-to-back double-figure hauls as he rose to seventh amongst midfielders. At just 8.4 and owned by only 9%, it’s perhaps time we pay him a little more attention.

The promoted sides are being found out…
Bournemouth, Norwich and Watford all started the season relatively sprightly after arriving from the Championship but their early form is starting to wane. Shipping 14 goals between them in Gameweek 9, the promoted clubs have now picked up just one point apiece over the last three rounds of fixtures, with the former two now conceding 20 and 17 goals already. Whilst Watford have shipped just ten goals, a lack of impact in the final third has seen them net just six times – the worst record in the top-flight. With the honeymoon period now over, all three have plenty of work to do to stop a slide into the drop zone.

Norwich always need to start Redmond….
Handed a recall for the trip to St James’ the Canaries winger bagged a fourth goal of the season to take his tally to 44 points in FPL. With Wes Hoolahan dropping to the bench, Redmond’s threat down the right flank once again came to the fore to offer Alex Neil a crumb of comfort in the wake of Sunday’s 6-2 humbling. Given his side’s woes in defence, Redmond – one of only two players to score more than a single goal for Norwich this season – surely needs to start from now on if Neil’s men are to have a chance of beating the drop.

I wouldn't get carried away by Bony or Sterling just yet. Remember that Bournmouth were very poor defensively and 3 of the goals were down to individual mistakes. I'd say that if your going for a city attacker KDB is still umber 1 choice. I'd wait and see how Sterling and Bony get on against Utd before jumping on that Bandwagon

I'm really happy for bringing in Mitrovic for this GW. This lad has the sickest work rate i've seen from any strikers in the league. 5-2 lead and he runs all the way back to his corner flag to take the ball of Mbokani. Lovely stuff

Its very hard to say. I love the man, he's an absolute character so I really will enjoy having him in the PL. Even that he went to Liverpool doesn't cause me too much grief to be honest. 😛

But, it has caused me some confusion. There was talk of how Liverpool were so similar to Dortmund etc. and seeing as he left Dortmund after his worst season with them, I can't help but wonder why he left. I mean, if Pool and Dortmund are so similar, and he loved Dortmund as much as he said, what is the point in taking the job? I suppose he walked away from Mainz, the club he spent his entire career at, once he couldn't get them promoted again, so perhaps the thrill was gone. So maybe there's a little disappointment that he decided to walk away from Dortmund. Still, they haven't missed him yet this season 🙂

Yep, should be great having the Normal one in the league, always top quality comments from the man.

I'm not sure if I totally agree with the public's comparisons between Liverpool and Dortmund, Pool don't have as much pace, aggression or firepower, but hopefully Klopp can make that side his own and introduce some Dortmund-esque style.. Twould be fantastic to watch, would be like Liverpool with Suarez again.
I feel Moreno, Ibe, Origi, and Firmino could all improve under him.

Yep, Dortmund making a good account of themselves this season!
Did many of the famous backroom staff come with Klopp or did most stay in Germany?

                    Absolutely!

I think the comments were more to do with the scope of the project, the cities themselves and the fans. So I wonder what motivated him to leave Dortmund. I'm interested to see if he maintains the same style in the PL, I think there might be some differences introduced, and am interested to see what players emerge.

He brought with him Buvac (The Brain, and in my opinion a more important signing than Klopp himself) and Krawietz (The Eyes, he reviews video footage). Zorc, Director of Football at Dortmund and the man responsible for all their great purchases has stayed at Dortmund and signed a new contract until 2019 and Sven Mislintat, the head scout responsible for finding those players is also still at Dortmund. I'll be very interested to see what the transfers are like, because them two ran the show at Dortmund, so I wonder what Pool will do.

Ah that makes more sense, well if Klopp can recreate anything even similar to what he did at BVB he'll be a hero on Merseyside (and in England!).

Ah nice one, Buvac will make a huge difference, he's the tactician, good to see him and Klopp didn't have to part ways, they seem to be a fantastic working team!

Transfers could be a making / breaking point.. Liverpool haven't gotten them 100% right in a while now, all decent, none great.. Jury is still out on that one.

Yes indeed, which has me a little disappointed because I don't think his work was finished with Dortmund but such is the way. Yeah, Buvac was the big, he had a national team managerial position (some small country) that he packed in to reunite with Klopp so that was a very good acquisition.

I agree, and interesting enough a lot of people don't realise that Klopp wasn't involved in purchases in Dortmund. So it will come down to the Liverpool transfer committee, which he is on, to get the good players in. Now I know some have said that all the good players Pool signed were the transfer committee, while all the bad ones were Rodgers, but I don't believe that. I think BR was a scapegoat in that sense. I don't expect an overhaul in January, but will keep a close eye for a change in buying strategy.

Maybe he just got sick of challenging Bayern and decided to challenge United/City/Chelsea instead!

I think BR was a scapegoat for a lot at that club, and the hype surrounding Klopp will probably shield him from all that for a while. I don't mean to say BR was perfect or even deserved to stay, but he was unfairly criticised by those with no knowledge of the situation, nobody knows how much of a say he had in each of the respective transfers, and I'd say it was a mix of both good and bad decisions, a bit like Moyes.

Klopp should hopefully bring a bit more experience / knowledge if he was listening to Zorc at all over the last few years 😛 I would personally love to see Liverpool challenging just to break up the monotony of the "top 4" again alá Suarez's season.

                        We shall see 🙂

Very possible! And I agree on all of that about BR, I didn't think he deserved to stay but towards the end the owners had developed a lovely little system of: "Everything that goes wrong is his fault, but we deserve the praise for all that goes right." As for Zorc, Klopp was pretty much removed from that process, but he should hopefully have a fair idea of the type of players he can work with 😛

I don't mind them challenging again, as long as United do better 😉

    Hi Guys.
My defence needs a tinker. As follows:

    Myhill/Schwarzer
    Monreal/Darmian/Kolarovv/Richards/Oxford

I'm thinking Oxford to somebody else - maybe another Arsenal or Spurs defender. Thoughts?
Is 2 x Arsenal too risky?

the only issue with Spurs is they've some tricky games ahead (Arsena;/West Ham/Chelsea all back to back...)

Horrible GW. Willing to take a few hits. What's the most obvious transfer(s) to do of the highlighted players?

    Butland / McCarthy
    Clyne / Catchart / Francis / KOLAROV / TARGETT
Sanchez / De Bruyne / Payet / MAHREZ / WALCOTT
    Pellé / MARTIAL / SAKHO

Would like to bring inn Wijnaldum, maybe Costa or Bony, maybe Bellerin. Vardy?

    0.9 ITB.

Targett out first, then you might to Sakho to Vardy. Kolarov expected back GW11. Mahrez will be good, Walcott rotation rist, you might wanna get Yaya or Sterling before GW11-Norwich. Martial has good fixtures soon and can stay. So priority to get rid:
Targett, Sakho,Walcott (dont lose Martial Kolarov, Mahrez)

Newcastle actually have a great bunch of attacking options.

Mitrovic, Cisse, Ayoze, Sissoko, Wijnaldum, De Jong, Thauvin, Janmaat.

Get a decent manager at Newcastle and a couple defensive reinforcements, and I could easily see them pushing for the Europa League spots next season.

So how do people feel about the whole Italy vs England coefficients battle this year?

Is it true that if Italian teams and British teams both perform to their same respective level as last year, the 4th spot goes to Italy?

Surely that's a HUGE deal for the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Spurs and Arsenal?

    No more 4th spot?

Yeah that's work for me if he is your preferred mid. Also Eriksen has two great fixtures or Wijnaldum for Newc great run of games?

About as much chance as Depay getting his place back, so not very likely

Is Westwood > Wijnaldum for 5th mid worth -4? Great fixtures coming

Mmm... not bad idea. Mull it over to see how it affects your team the following 2-3 weeks without AoA chip.

I've had a 4.5m fifth mid all season, not once has he had to come into my first XI - rotation headaches really aren't worth it

So hard to predict w defenders.
I bottled Kolarov > Bellerin last GW as I didn't want o take another hit but...

List the next 3 fixtures of each.

Cheers, yeah I bottled the same transfer 😉 good idea to list fixtures. Thing is Muniesa seems to be a bench player at the mo. So will list fixtures of my bench player instead. Whatever the case it does free up s transfer for later.....

If he is getting limited minutes then I don't see an issue with taking a hit. A good bit of business in the long run and might pay off even sooner if the rest of your defence looks shaky this GW.

That's advice I like to hear. Think my subconscious thought process was saying this but yeah I think the -4 is justifiable at least in the long term.
