Our regular Friday members article comes around again, as we focus on the main captaincy contenders in accordance with our Captain Poll. We take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Kevin De Bruyne (31%) is the firm favourite to sport the skipper’s armband in Gameweek 11. The Belgium international notched a goal and an assist during Manchester City’s League Cup win over Crystal Palace and boasts three goals and as many assists in five leagues starts, illuminating his fine form this term. The Sky Blues play host to a Norwich outfit that’s failed to register a single clean sheet, so it’s no surprise that Wilfried Bony (9%; two goals and one assist in last two) is strongly fancied, though Raheem Sterling (1%) could be a differential candidate after grabbing a hat-trick in his last home outing.

Despite drawing blanks in his previous two league outings, Graziano Pelle enjoys 15% of the vote ahead of Southampton’s home tie against a Bournemouth backline that’s conceded ten times in the last two Gameweeks. The 8.4-priced forward netted for the Saints in midweek and has not gone longer than two starts without delivering attacking returns this campaign. The favourable nature of Southampton’s match-up also brings Sadio Mane (4%) – who’s carded three goals in four starts – into the captain conversation.

Harry Kane (10%) lies in third place in the wake of his hat-trick against Bournemouth last time out. Spurs’ chief frontman will fancy his chances of scoring in successive matches for the first time this season, given that a home clash against Aston Villa – who’ve shipped eight goals in their previous quartet of road encounters – is next on the agenda.

Romelu Lukaku rounds off the top five with 5% of the vote. The Belgian marksman tallied five goals through a ten-match stretch that included eight of last season’s top 10 sides, so he’s well placed to flourish as Everton embark on a favourable run through to the New Year. First up is a home clash against Sunderland, who shipped 12 goals in their last five away fixtures.

Alexis Sanchez (5%) slips down the rankings following his blank against Everton last weekend. The 11.6-priced midfielder has netted six goals in his last four starts and is pitted against a Swansea City defence that’s earned just one clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

Jamie Vardy (3%) and Eden Hazard (2%) are closely contesting the lower spots in our top 10, despite their conflicting form. The former has chalked up nine goals in his last seven starts but could be thwarted by a West Bromwich Albion outfit that has recorded five shut-outs in their previous seven. The latter, meanwhile, has just one goal and two assists to his name as the Blues prepare to lock horns with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

    Sanchez, KDB, X, Payet, Mane

I'd like a nice differential pick for that last midfield spot. I have 8.8m.

That's my midfield, I'm hemorrhaging funds with Sinclair at the minute, but playing 343.

I'd consider Redmond or Barkley. Wouldn't want to play 352 regularly.

Ozil.. 5 13 12 5 in the last 4 games(1 goal and 5 assists!) .. Played permanently in the hole. Created the most number of chances in Europe over the last 4. Finally got some sort of goal threat(pretty impressive figures). is he a big hitter hiding amongst the mid priced midfielders?

Fixtures, unless they're a team like WBA that are obviously very defence orientated. Those teams are rare though.

Is LVG stubborn or just a bit odd? Been looking at the recent positional maps to see if it was either fixtures or line ups to see why Mata went from scoring 33 points over GWKS 4-7, then just 5 in gwks 8-10.

The key difference is MArtial on the left and Rooney up front. This is sucking all the creativity and threat out of the side as play is ending up with a guy that shouldn't be there.

Martial needs to be moving up front, with Rooney behind. It's as clear as day. Why is he refusing to do it? Or will he now relent and move Rooney back a bit? I hope so, otherwise ManU attacking assets are pretty useless during their kind run

    1. Pochecinno

Martial up top. Mata in the hole. Rooney on the bench.

I agree, sadly though can't see that happening.

Just had a more in depth look and they are creating a similar amount of chances...they are just coming to less as they are ending with Rooney not Martial.

Martial needs to be moved up front, with Rooney dropped. Rooney has been absolute garbage for 18 months, whether up front or not, but he is evidently bigger than both club and country. On that £300k a week contract, he has to play, and they seem willing to play him where he wants, which is number 9.

Either that or Van Gaal is an idiot.

      1. Somalion

I'd respect LVG forever if he benched Rooney. In fact, I would have respected Moyesy as well, but they wound up giving Wayne that massive contract instead.

There weren't may other options to play on the left though given Depay's form. Also, he might have thought Herrera brought more control at #10 during what was a tough run of fixtures.

Tiredness may have been a factor with Mata too.

Mata needs to play the full 90 minutes, every match to be effective. LVG was doing that at the start of the season, but has now reverted (for some crazy unbeknownst reason) to benching him after 45 or 60 mins like he did last season. Mata is their most creative player, Not a super-sub for crying out loud!

      yup, Martial is the difference

We have scored 4 goals in 4 games with Martial on the left, and 3 of those were Everton

we averaged 3 per game with him up top

      Young may be the key

I'm going to play Mata this gwk...but fully expect 2pts if Rooney is up front again. This will be his final game for me as he moves to my bench then out of the team. Such a waste of potential Fantasy points.

I dunno. I want to trust scholes when he says Rooney is only not playing well due to having no runners off him. Hopefully martial plays 9, Rooney 10, Young and Mata wings, scniedsteiger in mid

Pretty easy with no Rooney surely?

          Scweinsteiger/Schneiderlin

          Mata/Herrera/Depay

          Martial

Another strong team. It's almost as if he's stuck with Rooney now seeing as he made him captain

Love Scholes, but he's talking out of his arse imo.

No runners doesn't impact your ability to do simple things, like control the poxy football.

          ^this^

Scholes has obviously not noticed Rooney's first touch has become worse than Hernandez'

Aye. For a while I really wanted to believe Rooney still had it, but he has taken the meaning of diabolical to a whole new level this season.

I actually hope he threatens to leave for Chelsea again, so we can further sabotage them like with Falcao 😉

I don't buy that at all, he has runners for England and he's still dreadful. He's not some Ozil/Silva magician that needs runners around him, his passing is really poor.

    Mane
    Bony - Lukaku - Kane

For this GW, should I be worried?

      Kolarov.

Zabaleta is not out for long and when he did just come back he replaced Sagna immediately. I don't think the same will happen with Kolarov/Clichy

On a WC. Could it be time to cash in on Payet?
Not great fix nor shooting stats.

Thinking of maybe Ôzil instead, already have Mane, Mahrez, Sanchez, KDB

Downside is hes the top scoring player in the game, and I`ve got him for 7.6

    What do you think?

    Thanks:)

I had an add-on for chrome that had real time updates of scores and other stats in my mini leagues, just got a new laptop (old one died) but can't for the life of me remember what it was called or where I got it. Does anyone know where I can get it from?

    Thanks.

Just bought OZil in for free 😎 .. now.. i've got 2.5 in the bank and 1 more FT and only my keepers(Fabianski Hennnessey) as worries in my team(WCed 2 weeks ago)

    Is
    A) Fabianski to DDG for free
    B) Save transfer and swap FAbianski(ARS nor BOU) for Myhill in 3 weeks..

    B) will probably make getting Aguero in a little easier
