Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    1FT, 5.2m ITB. Team is:

    Myhill (Hennessey)
    Bellerin Janmaat VVD (Francis Mariappa)
    Sanchez KDB Payet Mahrez (Wanyama)
    Lukaka Pelle Vardy

    Which move?
    (A) Francis to Moreno (leaves me 0 playing bench players)
    (B) Francis to Rojo (leaves not enough in the bank to get Kun with 1FT + no playing bench players this week).
    (C) Mariappa to Simpson

    Hello boys. I need help.

    Butland McCarthy
    Bellerin Kolarov Alderwield Prodl Francis
    KDB Sanchez Payet Mane Westwood
    Vardy Lukaku Bony

    1FT 3.4M

I had earlier planned on of the following
    A) Prodl -> Moreno
    B) Payet -> Mahrez
    C) Save

I do have Kun in mind. And i'm thinking about him for the future.
Should i do Prodl -> Rojo and assuming Kun falls to 13M i have the following move possible. Bony -> Kun. Kolarov -> 3.9M.

Prodl -> Moreno offers me a much better route to Kun with a Kolarov downgrade but Rojo will give me way more points. But then i will need to look at another route to get Kun.

What thoughts do you lot have.

Prodl > Rojo does look good, but I think it leaves you unbalanced if you need to drop Kolarov to a 3.9. If you do Prodl > Moreno, you could afford a Kolarov downgrade to a 4.5? More options at that price. And it's not like Moreno has poor fixtures, they are almost as good as Rojo's for a while, if Pool start returning some clean sheets.

Seems a waste though and United look nailed on for cleanies.

Tough decision though. I just went the Rojo route since his next two look better.

Tricky game this. Thanks for you thoughts! Think i will go in with 4 playing defenders.

      Prodl > Rojo looks good.

Will be tough fitting Kun in without making a scarifice somewhere. I've been playing the same back 3 for the last few weeks, possibly months. Simpson is a great shout at 3.9; you'll probably never need him anyway.

Latest on Bellerin guys? Who's the best replacement for him, current team:

    Myhill

    Toby Bellerin Van Dijk

    Payet KDB Sanchez Mahrez

    Pelle Vardy Lukaku

Bench: Evans Morrison Browning. I'm not comfortable playing Evans against United, so i will rather sell Evans and Bench Bellerin

Norwich have conceded lots, but the manager has recently commented he is looking to tighten up, as evidenced by restricting City to 1 goal for more than 80 minutes.

Why are so many people falling into the Rojo trap? He is bound to be rotated soon. Only 2 of Darmain, Young, Valencia and Rojo will play when they are all fit. They all have a equal chance of playing, imo. Young looked dangerous during midweek.

    1. Jigger & Pony
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I think his biggest threat is Blind. But with Jones injuries, Blind more likely to partner Smalling. Young should play on the left wing and compete with Martial/Depay.

      1. Puyol Pants Up
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

I forgot about Blind, naturally a LB/Midfielder. Never really played CB in his career. He could move back there when Jones is over his injuries and back to match fitness.

Young plays fullback these days. But he should play LW imo when Depay is out of form, Martial up top.

I really don't think Rojo is going to be rotated. He's playing really well, and is more suited to the position than Young. Blind is more likely to slot in at CB for when Jones is injured. Valencia may rotate with Darmian for the RIGHT back spot.

Rojo and Jones are pretty safe, imo, provided they both don't get injured.

      1. Puyol Pants Up

Cant wait to get Willian next week 🙂 .. wish i could do it this week but im saving a transfer incase things go wrong in the international break. Still cant quite believe the lack of interest in him.. Chelsea looked very good last night(yes, i watched the Chelsea game) and Willian is on literally all set pieces AND is playing very high up AND is their current best and nailed midfielder under Mourinho(Was worried Mourinho would leave hence destroying my Willian punt.. that does not look the case though). Hazard looked better in the 10 mins he came on for yesterday then he looked all season btw.. Costa/Fabregas and Oscar too. Considering their fixture run from next week i think people on here are seriously missing a trick ignoring them(especially Willian @6.8)

I'm just worried that if Mou gets sacked he might lose his place. Remember what happened to Mata when a new manager came in.

Cant see it happening.. Played well last night, got the approval from the fans and his post match conference showed he's no longer a broken man. Honestly do think their season turns for the better now

I still think he will get sacked soon, Willian's FK bailed him out yesterday. But if he is nailed I would 100% get him in my team. He is by far Chelsea's best player right now.

They looked really good last night.. Missing chances for fun(Zouma!) and dominated everything. Shame that it had to go down to a Willian freekick to bail em out when they really dint need a moment of genius from anyone up until Begovic came off the line and missed the ball which led to the goal 🙁

that being said.. i am waiting until GW 13. so if they win against Stoke Willian comes in end of the international break. If they lose i'll just wait for the Mourinho out rumors to settle down before buying him 🙂

True, If Mou doesn't get sacked by the end of the International break then I would probably bring in Willian. 😀

Are most people getting rid of Bellerin?
I think I'll need to as my bench isnt strong enough

You could just get a better bench.

It doesn't look like he'll be out for long. Maybe a better transfer would be to improve your minor bench players.
