Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    Hey lads what you think

    Butland
    Richards Huth Evans
    Marhez(c) Sanchez Payet KDB
    Vardy Pelle Kane

McCarthy Bellerin** Darmian*** Deadwood 1FT 3.3 ITB

Thinking Richards to Moreno for free and hold the other 2?

    Butland (Myhill)
    Bellerin* Dawson Nyom (Francis, Kinsella)

    Pelle Vardy Kane

Am I right to sit on my hands and have 2FTs for the Injury Break?

I would unless you want to get Moreno or a Man Utd defender. You look well set this week though and 2 FTs is always valuable.

Think I'd play Myhill given how toothless Man Utd have been recently and for all Chelsea's problems they almost never blank.

Why is everyone doing Payet to Ozil? Is that really a transfer worth doing considering how consistent Payet is?

Another of these ridiculous bench dilemmas I'm afraid. I chose independently last week and benched Mahrez so no blame attached to anyone brave/kind/foolish enough to offer up an opinion - it can't go worse than last week, surely!

    A. Payet (EVE)
    B. Pelle (sun)
    C. Evans (mun)
    D. Bertrand (sun)

C or D means playing AOA (who knew that chip would be so popular? 🙂 )

I am currently benching Pelle, but nowhere near certain i will stick.

I'd probably bench A with AOA in a week where your defenders have poor fixtures (Man Utd aren't exactly guaranteed to score). Benching Payet is very risky though, our defence is vulnerable.

What's the rest of the team mate?

Think I might go for C...can see United scoring in this one, maybe even more than one despite how toothless we've been recently. Our scores tend to go from low scoring ones to a short burst of goals and then back to low scoring games. Think this could be one of those burst.

United's goal scoring record this season:

      1, 1, 0, 1, 3, 3, 3, 0, 3, 0, 0, ?
Surely they can't blank 3 times in a row? Especially, at Old Trafford when there's so much pressure on them to score.

        Butland, Ruddy
Rojo/Jones, Bertrand, Evans, Richards, Bellerin (I'm assuming he'll miss out)
Mahrez, Mane, De Bruyne, Payet, Sanchez
        Pelle, Vardy, Lukaku

Not sure I like the "due" to score argument but thanks!

It's less of a "due" argument than United are more than capable of scoring a load of goals, and the team is under pressure to score goals, next fixture at home should bring goals. Kind of a due argument 😆 Basically, I don't think West Brom will keep a clean sheet 🙂

Actually, if you have Mane, it could be worth benching Mane if you fancy saving your AOA for a more opportunistic week further down the line?

Cheers, so that's at least one vote for each option! In a way that's helpful because at least I know I'm not tying myself in knots for no reason!

I was leaning Bertrand as well because I fancy Sunderland to score but Bertrand is very capable of attacking points. It's a dangerous game this!

No. Aguero could be weeks away still - if you can gain extra points in the mean time by spending the money on your current players that's a much better idea in my opinion.

Points in the bank > easy Aguero transfer

Depends how long he's out for really, we don't know at this point.

I've not really spent the money but that's because I haven't really needed too. Last week I did have one eye on Aguero however which is why I didn't get Vardy in for Mitrovic - I have to stand by that for now and hope for the best.

I think you could wait a few weeks to get him if necessary, you don't want to sacrifice a lot of points at this stage just to potentially gain a few when he's back.

Payet has been gold since GW1. If I had him, there is no way I would be getting rid of him. He is central to what West Ham do. Ozil is nowhere near that important to Arsenal. He's just having a good spell.

Hmm. With Mane I really think it depends where he plays. If he's in the hole he's gold, if he's out wide he's good but not as good.

Pelle and Ozil v Kane and Mane on my WC next week is a toughie

I like people to try to make up their own minds. Having said that, Payet's numbers are AT LEAST as good, if not better than Özil's. Payet is also rather more obviously central to everything that Hammers do.

Good to save transfer this week? Simpson should be fine coming in for Bellerin if he doesn't play, tempted to get De Gea in but no real harm keeping Begovic and saving a transfer for the international break?

    Begovic
    Bellerin - Bertrand - Moreno
Sanchez - Ozil - De Bruyne - Mahrez
    Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku

    Hennessey - Simpson - Anya - Janmaat

you invest 0.5m in pts on your bench. Stupidly imo. This concept started when Hart and Schwarzer were both 4.0m and were bringing the goods home. Then you can rotate, now the premises changed!!! Meaning rotation costs you 1m more and brings you more and more benching pts

I want Rojo long term. Currently playing Bellerin, Zouma, Cedric with Nyom and Evans on the bench. Cant see Nyom keeping a clean sheet against LEI but maybe Evans has a chance against MUN.

Ballerina probably out so do you think it is worth a -4 doing Nyom to Rojo and playing him. Way I see it is MUN should keep a clean sheet and its basically an FT.

Really wanted to save the FT this week but injuries and suspensions may change that. Do I:

      A) make a transfer - probs be Darm or Rich to someone like Moreno
      B) hope Richards plays and Kolorov doesn't get rotated
      C) aoa chip
