Tottenham’s Erik Lamela become the latest player to topple off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign during this afternoon’s north London derby at the Emirates. The in-form Argentine – whose absence could pave the way for fit-again Heung Min-Son to stake a claim for a starting berth – misses Spurs’ upcoming home match-up against West Ham United but will be available when Chelsea roll up to White Hart Lane in Gameweek 14.

With five new arrivals over the weekend’s fixtures, the Suspension Tightrope is drawing quite the crowd – there’s now an 18-strong band of wrongdoers on four bookings as we head into the international break.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is certainly the most pertinent of the new recruits from a Fantasy perspective. The Saints’ leading marksman currently sits at a hefty 34% ownership – having bagged four goals and as many assists in seven starts – and will be wary of committing further indiscretions ahead of a home tie against Aston Villa in Gameweek 15.

The Italian was joined by James McCarthy, Chris Brunt, Glenn Whelan and Cheick Tiote. The Newcastle enforcer has now chalked up more yellow cards (53) than any player in the Premier League since he made the switch to St James’ Park in August 2010.

In terms of new bans, West Brom defender Gareth McAuley received his marching orders for denying Anthony Martial a clear goal scoring opportunity at Old Trafford, making him the only recipient of a red card throughout the weekend. The Northern Ireland international has been handed a one-match suspension and misses out when Arsenal pay visit after the international break, returning for a trip to West Ham in Gameweek 14.

After the 2-0 defeat, Baggies boss Tony Pulis was somewhat critical of the centre-half and acknowledged McAuley’s challenge left referee Mike Dean with little alternative:

“Gareth McAuley (for the red card and penalty) should have stayed on his feet and if the kid scores the kid scores…It’s difficult for Mike. You could feel, with a couple of minutes to go, that he might look at it differently. But the letter of the law says that if he’s last man and he brings him down he has to send him off.”

Aside from McAuley, James Collins is the only other player serving out a suspension during the next round of fixtures. The Hammers’ seasoned centre-back has two fixtures remaining on his three-match ban, ruling him out of a road tie against Tottenham Hotspur and a home clash against West Brom. With Winston Reid back in the frame, however, it’s unlikely that Collins will reclaim a starting berth upon his return.

United’s Matteo Darmian is now available for the upcoming trip to Watford after he fell off last week’s Tightrope. Norwich skipper Russell Martin and Southampton’s Victor Wanyama are both back in contention after they were dismissed during last week’s matches.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Payet getting sold so fast tonight like he's out for the season and its not even known if he will miss Tuesday training yet!

With Sakho,Valencia, Song,Ogbonna all expected back with him next game it seems to lack any rationality.

Lusaka is a great option but then quite a few have emerged recently.

You can't justify moving Vardy on, so I guess it would be Iggy.

After United he has; vil NOR sun so I wouldn't be in a hurry to move him on, particularly at his price

Thanks for that, yeah I'm not really keen on moving either on, was very happy with the fwd line of ig Vard and Aguero before he got injured. Might just have to do without and hope for the best. Thanks for the assessment mate!

          All good mate 🙂

Iggy is such a great Aguero enabler so if you hold you can probably go straight in for Kun after Pelle has played STO and you have at least (hopefully) seen Kin on the pitch

      • 12 Years

I'm preferring to go Deulofeu, get a better 5th mid than a 4.3, & go Ighalo as my Agüero enabler. Keeping Ighalo as either a short term enabler & switching to someone else around his price range once fixtures change (or switching to a perma 343).

Deulofeu has started five matches, getting 1 goal & 6 assists. Everton have scored 12 goals when he's started (wba, LIV, ars, SUN, whu) only blanking in the Merseyside derby, & he's had a goal involvement of 58%. At 6.2m, he's worth the risk imo.

....& please, no mention of xG here porfavor 😉 Gracias.

Yeah, definite upturn in fixtures so can understand the consideration.

Connor Wickham, Dwight Gayle, Patrick Bamford puts me off.

Glenn Murray might not be the most technical player but he suited their strengths at least.

He's a had a slow start, was injured at the beginning of the season.
        4 points for me.
        1) Him & Puncheon are 1st picks, Zaha & Sako are not.
        2) He's steadily improving - looked great 2 seasons ago with no final product, last season was a big improvement and I see that continuing especially under Pardew and now that he's looking fit.
        3) Has an explosion factor, in other words can score big like he did last year if you catch him at the right time and fixtures look good.
        4) Love watching him, such a talent

I think you're been quite kind. A lot of players were injured or nursed back at the start of the season for various reasons.

He has played more than 800 minutes and not supplied a single assist. When I've watched him I haven't been as impressed as previously-as above, I think is partly down to weak striking options.

It would also concern me that yesterday he scored in a winning team and received no bonus, with his team conceding.

From memory he has only produced one explosive performance is his career; a hat trick in a season where he scored 4 goals.

As far as point 4) goes if you are playing for fun then that's cool, if it's for points then it's kind of irrelevant tbh.

The fixtures are turning very nicely so I don't think he's a dreadful pick, I just think that there are many more compelling options.

Got rid of KDB instead of Payet:

    - would need to downgrade him for Aguero anyway
    - want to wait for scans and keep Payet
    - isn't worth his price tag
    - benching Payet anyway so would've had a benching problem

did you see he play along with Kun & Silva?
City attacking in trouble recent weeks because when looking at the team, you see: Navas, Sterling, Bony, old & lazy Yaya

Thinking of bring this article series from last season back.

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/10/16/budget-alternatives/

    Might go with:

    Sanchez-Ozil

    KDB-Sterling

    Mane-Tadic

    Any thoughts? 🙂

Keep in mind that "these alternatives are not necessarily better prospects than their premium counterparts, but they definitely provide excellent value for their difference in price."

Right? Say what you will about his workrate & defensive contribution, but the guy was absolutely horrendous offensively last season. Nearly every build-up/play would die when anyone passed the pall to the right flank & Ivan wasn't there.

Not a worthwhile WC imo, save it, reassess after the Kun is back.

If Payet's injured, I'd just trade him out for Özil. If not, Martial (or Pelle), to Kane/Lukaku. Maybe even both for a hit if you're feeling froggý. Rest of the team is great.
