Jermain Defoe grabs a late winner for Sunderland at Selhurst Park. Black Cats duo Billy Jones and Costel Pantilimon produce their second double-figure hauls in four appearances as Palace fail to score for the third time in the previous four Gameweeks.

Defoe Wins it for Black Cats

Jermain Defoe’s 80th minute strike granted Sunderland their first road win of the campaign. The 5.2-priced frontman – who was stationed alongside Steven Fletcher in a 3-5-2 set-up – capitalised on some risible defending from Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann to record his second goal in as many starts. The Black Cats’ tough schedule (STO, ars, WAT, che, mci, LIV) and his rotation risk ensure that Defoe remains a peripheral concern on the Fantasy scene, whilst his withdrawal due to an ankle problem is also a real concern for Sam Allardyce.

The Wearsiders’ triumph at Selhurst Park also produced their second clean sheet in four outings. Having assisted Defoe for the winner, Billy Jones scooped all three bonus points to bring home an 11-point return – the full-back has racked up 29 points in five appearances under Big Sam but is now set for a one-match ban after earning his fifth caution of the season.

Costel Pantilimon (4.8) tallied 10 points by virtue of two save and bonus points but is unlikely to attract investment when the likes of Boaz Myhill (4.8) and Jack Butland (4.7) are more enticing options in his price bracket. That being said, home ties against Stoke City and Watford in the next three Gameweeks are conducive to shut-outs.

Palace Home Toils Continue

Last night’s late defeat means that Alan Pardew’s side have now lost seven of their previous 11 meetings at Selhurst Park. Moreover, they rank third for shots inside the box conceded in home fixtures (62) and have managed just six goals themselves, illustrating their struggles at both ends of the pitch. As such, those Fantasy managers in possession of Newcastle United assets might be tempted to hold fire on any sales – despite their one goal in four matches – ahead of the Magpies’ trip to south London next Gameweek.

The Eagles will feel aggrieved not to have earned a result against Sunderland, given that they amassed the third most attempts (19) of any team in the Gameweek. Connor Wickham’s return to the starting line-up harvested three shots but zero on target, exposing his inevitable rustiness.

Yohan Cabaye fired off more than double the attempts (five) of any other Palace midfielder but ultimately carded his fourth blank in succession. Considering that the Frenchman has bagged just one goal and assist from open play this term (complementing his three penalties), his 15% ownership may be considering their options once the weekend home encounter with Newcastle has passed.

Do you think Martial is better as a wide player than a striker ?...not in FPL obviously, he's better up front for that...but in real life?

I fancy a chance that LVG might go with

        Mata Rooney Martial
        Depay

        What do you think?

I will never understand the people transferring Vardy out, one game away from setting a new record. If someone like him doesn't stop you knee jerking, nothing will. Form over fixtures people.

    1. pompeyfan
      • 16 Years
      10 years, 23 days ago

better to transfer someone out the game they stop delivering, rather than after they have started a dry spell.

      1. Kaizer
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 23 days ago

I find this way of thinking hilarious. All those who jumped of Mahrez when he was dropped and ready for a dry spell suffered, as have those who jumped off Vardy because they thought his run was going to end.

People don't like them because they're relatively cheap, highly owner and play for Leicester, and all these things tell you they should derail at somepoint. But they don't. I already have Kane and Lukaku like many but no one will match Vardy's value for money this season.

im not saying it's the right decision, but this is obviously the ideal scenario in terms of transfer strategy, although extremely difficult to get right.

If people think Vardy will stop delivering points then they should take him out of their teams

I just don't see it myself. I've watched a few of Leicester's games this season because of him and he simply does not stop running, chases everything down. Basically as close to FPL gold as you can get when you consider value for money.

He's knocked in 2 against both Arsenal and Soton who had fairly decent defensive records and while I don't expect him to score every game, he's simply too valuable to lose.

Why are so many people getting rid of Sanchez? Especially when he's got Norwich next...

Yes - I think he might refer to himself in the third person.

Bit of a dilemma here lads. Already done Pelle to Kane this week leaving me with 0.4 ITB. Im thinking of shipping either one of Sanchez or De Bruyne. Il get 11.4 for Sanchez or 10.3 for KDB. Im planning on bringing in Ozil and Arsenal do have the better fixtures coming up but that would mean tripling up on Arsenal (have Bellerin). I also have the classic Mahrez/Vardy combo and am thinking in the long run about bringing in Kone for Ayoze as my cheap/non playing 3rd striker but already have barkley. Do you think relying on certain teams to do well is a recipe for disaster? Or take them while the form is good and ship them out when done?

Are you getting rid of one of them to get ozil for a hit? If so then I'd advise against it.

But has anyone on here actually got rid (or getting rid this week)?

A hit is always going to get a cool reception on here if it involves selling a fit player with a decent fixture

According to FFF, Aguero is a massive differential among top 1000. 5% ownership last I checked. I imagine a similar figure for top 10k (slightly higher maybe but well below 10%). Kane ownership around 25%. Aguero is a good shout for those looking to break into top ranks. The next 4 GWs are very crucial. They can literally make or break your season if you go with the wrong player.

Could be gold next week. City have scored loads against Soton at the Etihad in recent years when their defense was actually better than now and City's attacking power much less (No KDB and Sterling). I am still leaning towards Lukaku though.
