The community took an in-depth look at strategy this week to discuss the different tactics used, from playing the percentages to shooting from the hip. Our hot topic posters offer advice on these different types of Fantasy manager as well as some early Christmas carol singing – Fantasy football style. Elsewhere, our regular community writers are on hand with advice on climbing up the rankings in Gameweek 16 and beyond into Christmas, while we also see who has already pulled some Christmas crackers in our community leagues and catch up with the latest Members tables under construction.

The Community Articles

With even the most experienced Fantasy managers struggling for consistency this year, Enzo the Baker has presented those in the doldrums with a festive challenge.

To get the ball rolling this Gameweek The Sarjeant was on hand with his regular look ahead to the weekend’s matches based on team form.

Meanwhile YMA presented his regular predictions based on what the bookies are saying and Bolivian Seaman has popped by the fans’ forums for their pitch-side insight.

One differential that could help climb the rankings is Raheem Sterling, who, according to Kavali’s analysis, profits when Sergio Aguero is injured. Manchester City are also amongst those sides to come under the microscope of Rakkhi, with his look at home and away form over the last four years.

Finally, The Fantastic Fox has developed the theory of the baseline defender as he looks for some help in finding clean sheets to keep the Christmas march up the rankings going.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With both Manchester sides battling injuries, Zasa’s analysis of their midweek Champions League encounters gives a good indication of those who are fighting fit and in form this weekend.

A Christmas miracle may be needed to revive the fitness of Sergio Aguero in particular, who once again misses the next match as he recovers from injury. To help spread some festive cheer for Fantasy managers there was plenty of Christmas songs being penned, with this Tyrone Mings inspired verse from Rhysyball amongst our favourites.

On a similar festive theme, Demi was in fine voice to tell us about some of the top Christmas differentials we ought to be considering.

For some those looking to take up Enzo the Baker’s Christmas challenge, December has proved a cruel month so far, especially for those investing in the likes of the misfiring Eden Hazard and the injured Daniel Sturridge. This week’s Rough with the Smooth rounded up many of these tales of woe, along with some bragging from those who captained hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez.

Bowstring the Carp had a stern message for those who seem all too ready to criticise others’ moves only with the benefit of hindsight.

Elsewhere, strategy took centre stage this week on both the Scoutcast and the hot topics as we discussed the merits and pitfalls of playing the percentages, while Twister Saltergater had some fun detailing the key Fantasy manager groups of dullards, sheep and punters.

Rule changes also cropped up this week, with Deadstar putting his head above the parapet to ponder scrapping of captaincies and ironing out disputes about assists once and for all.

The Members Tables

Scorcher Prime has been busy this week creating a wealth of statistics tables covering almost every aspect of the game from predicting defender goals to the most attacking strikers and midfielders in with a chance of a goal.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Andy extended his FFScout moderators and contributors league lead to 80 points over second-placed Green Windmill.

Ahead of the fourth week of qualifying in the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament, Cheesoid was on hand to look back at the key events so far in this competition and Jaffalicious also popped by to deliver the latest news from the FFS UEFA Champion League competition.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, The Enlightener hit the top score in Gameweek 15 with 99. There are now 1207 teams qualified after 95 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 43.

Finally, Ralf Buckenmaier is the new leader of RedLightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league and is also now comfortably in the top 1,000 in the overall rankings.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

What to do with this midfield?

Surman De Bruyne Barkley Bolasie Özil
    Lukaku Kane Vardy

1 FT, £4.5m in the bank.

    a) Bolasie to Silva/Ramsey
    b) Surman to Ramsey and bench who?
    c) Barkley to Silva/Ramsey
    d) something else
    e) save

    Cheers for any help.

I am looking at KDB as the next one out for me, without Aguero he's not been reliable. It just seems weird after all these seasons to eschew the big priced players entirely.

Ramsey or Silva is a carrot dangling in front of me. Villa and Swansea are pretty bad defensively. Thinking of Surman to Ramsey but then still have the benching headache between the Bs probably.

Between Chelsea and West Brom game, Spurs didn't have a midweek game and Kane was rubbish on both games

Spurs had a midweek game this time and Kane didn't play. Why is he now considered as rested?

And Newcastle looked surprisingly solid vs Liverpool.

Kane is me captain too just like majority here, but I'm not too convinced.

I think it will depend on which Newcastle turn up and how they set up. West Brom packed the midfield and turned the game into a battle in the centre of the park.

I do agree with it but what I'm saying is they had the same setup for all home games and they sucked badly. So perhaps Spurs is a bit out of form at the moment.

I think the teams that have done well against West Brom have played with fast wingers. Spurs have fast players, but they're either central (e.g. Alli) or attacking from deeper (Rose, Walker etc.) so they don't attack the channels in the same way. I think Newcastle are weaker through the middle than a West Brom team stuffed with central defenders.

        options are:

        Kane Lukaku Vardy

Think Chelsea will play defensively and stop the pressing/fast counter attack style (similar to the Liverpool title challenge game)

    Predictions

Reckon Arsenal will make tough work out of Villa and could see a 1-1 or Arsenal sneaking a 0-1 / 1-2 win. They put Everything into their midweek match, have no fresh legs to come in and hafta come back and head up to Birmingham.
Norwich I reckon could get a draw... 1-1 or 2-2.
City will hammer Swansea and score 4-6 goals
United will bore Bournemouth into submission and scrape a 1-0 win
Palace to narrowly edge out Soton
Stoke to win comfortably vs West Ham, 2-0
Spurs to win and score 2 or 3
Chelsea to park the bus in a low scoring game

With cash to burn I'm tempted with Bolasie -> Silva/Ramsey/Sterling/Wally (-4)

    KDB, Mahrez, Barkley, Bolasie
    Kane, Lukaku, Giroud

    Hennessey, VVD, Simpson, Surman

It's the 17.5% for KDB I would be more worried about. Over the last 7 GWs he's scored 44% of his points in one of them.

Spurs are at home against a team with a terrible away record.
Norwich have tightened up considerably since early season (formation and personnel change).

    4. Diva
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

I think its because Newcastle are more likely to be completely turned over. The Magpies could keep Spurs out completely... or they could concede six. Norwich may concede but I don't think many to expect them to concede more than a couple. I think most managers would rather drop seven points not captaining Lukaku than risk potentially losing 15 points not captaining Kane.

Morning dzzz, have so many issues with my team 🙁 and only 1FT and 0.5m

henessey • begovic--- need to replace begovic but henessey has okkish next 3 fixtures
moreno • cedric • souare --- simpson janmaat
    mahrez • hazard • ozil • yaya -- mane
    kane • kaku • vardy

    - def is very bad next few games but which def to get rid. souare? as i have henessey?
    - yaya/mane need to go

A: souare >> pva/varela/jenkinson/wolscheid..can start jenkinson every gw which i need
B: janmaat >> zouma (tough fix this gw) // rose // dawson (tough fix this gw)
C: begovic >> panti/butland this gw, bench henessey, start souare and get a wba def next gw
D: Yaya + janmaat >> sterling + jenkinson (-4)..yaya is good (+off form) if kun injured
E: Yaya + janmaat >> wijnaldum + kolorav (-4)..gets a big hit in def who i start every gw, plus easier benching problems

leaning towards A or E at the moment

I've resisted it all week, and now I think I am freaking out.

I can't bring myself to remove Ighalo and Vardy, and I can't bring myself to leave Harry Kane for Newcastle at home.

So I really want to do Lukaku -> Kane. But Lukaku has some meaty fixtures and awesome form. :/

Is Ighalo -> Kane(C) really the way to go?

Here's two times I left strikers for plum home ties, Sergio Aguero 6-1 NEW H and Romelu Lukaku 4-0 AVL H. Both those times my other players delivered well but their glut of points ensured that it was all for naught.

I can't bring myself to buy Kane. Lukaku, Vardy, Ighalo... they are exceptional value, and price not withstanding, gives as much performance as Kane anyhow.

I'd start Yaya here, he has a great recoord vs Swansea (4 goals in his last three) & has PK's to his name with Agüeo out. Not to mention this fixture is one of the prime examples of a very strong attack vs a faltering defense. Man City's hoe record is great as well (23 goals in 8 homers).

Yeah, that's definitely the safe percentage play. r.e the above, Lamela has twice the potential Barkley has IMO, lads got so much technique. Hope he continues this form 'til the end of the season, plus it'd be great to have another goalscoring option from Spurs apart from Kane.

The only thing Barkley has going for him over Lamela is that he is English 😉

Lamela , Eriksen and Kane are Spur's best players imo. I think Son coming to Spurs has given the extra motivation to Lamela to perform better

I'd agree there, Spurs' have some great gems right now, genuine top 3 contenders this year. Son was a good signing though imo, still too early tell, but for the past few seasons Spurs' finishing has been very poor in relation to all the chances the create & shots on target. Kane was the prime answer last year, but they're still boasting an average amount of SoT or chances wasted. Hopefully Son gets the nod in a bit more as an in-form duo of Kane & Son could be potentially be very, very deadly.
