[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Our Tightrope walkers were on their best behaviour over the weekend, with no new suspensions to report on so far in Gameweek 16. Indeed, the last 19 Premier League matches have failed to see anyone topple off, after last week also passed without incident.

There are now 23 players sitting just a single booking short of a one-match ban. Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures produced just two new entries – Sunderland’s Jack Rodwell was cautioned for a tackle on Watford midfielder Ben Watson during the Black Cats’ 1-0 home loss yesterday. Newcastle’s match-winner Ayoze Perez also accrued his fourth booking of the season after a late challenge on Jan Vertonghen in this afternoon’s 2-1 victory at the Lane.

Steve McClaren’s men now supply the Tightrope with three players – more than any other side – as Perez joins Vurnon Anita and Cheick Tiote on the naughty step.

There’s still time for a couple of protagonists to topple, though. Leicester’s Robert Huth and Chelsea’s Diego Costa are the men in question ahead of tomorrow evening’s match at the King Power, though the latter’s chances of taking part remain in question, bearing in mind that he’s failed to start the previous two matches.

With three more Gameweeks still to navigate until the limit is increased from five cautions to ten on New Year’s Day, there are, in theory, as many as 144 players still at risk of the Tightrope. West Brom are the club most affected, as they have ten players with at least two yellows to their name. Liverpool and United, meanwhile, have just four players in a similar situation.

Cautions for Tom Carroll and Danny Rose means that Tottenham remain at the summit for yellow cards accrued – Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been booked a total of 37 times in top-flight fixtures. West Brom (34), Liverpool (33), Newcastle (32) and Sunderland (31) are the next culpable, though in contrast, Arsenal have been the best behaved, with just 16 league bookings.

In terms of overall yellows, Stoke’s Erik Pieters and Newcastle’s Jack Colback now joined Norwich midfielder Alex Tettey at the summit with seven yellows apiece. Colback has now extended his record as the most booked player since the start of last season – he leads second-placed Lee Cattermole by 19 cautions to 17. That trio could yet fall foul of the ten card-limit in the current calendar year, then, should they be booked in their trio of remaining 2015 fixtures.

Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp has defended the tackle by Craig Gardner that led to Dejan Lovren being stretchered off with a knee problem at Anfield:

“He played the ball, a millisecond before he hit Dejan. It was like the whole game: on the edge of everything. But he played the ball.”

Tony Pulis, meanwhile, went on the offensive and claimed the hosts were far more culpable:

“The two worst challenges in the game are James Milner’s challenge on Gardner and Martin Skrtel’s challenge on Salomon Rondon. Gardner has played the ball. Skrtel has gone right over the ball.”

Man United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger is the only player currently unavailable due to suspension. The midfielder was retrospectively slapped with a three-match ban in midweek following an elbowing incident involving West Ham’s Winston Reid in the Gameweek 15 goalless draw at Old Trafford. Having sat out yesterday’s loss to Bournemouth, Schweinsteiger will also miss the upcoming league encounters with Norwich and Stoke.

I did Ighalo to Kane three GWs ago. I've made some bad transfers in my time but that's undoubtedly by far the worst I've ever made. I walk round like a wounded animal.

    Butland , DDG

    Nyom, Wollscheid, Sagna, Cedric, Dawson

    Ozil, Mahrez, Mane, Sterling, Barkley

Nope. Butland's era has just begun. The fourth best keeper in the league now (after Lloris, de Gea and Cech).

      Who is Myhill?

Tricky. Especially with both the opponents in good attacking form.

The irony with not having Butland is that he was the ONLY player I had in every pre season draft. Seemingly the correct decision to scrap him on my GW3 WC until the kid found a completely different script a few GWs back.

      So frustrating.

      I bought Dawson for that.
Have Butland. I will do McCarthy to Hennessy when there is a FT. Having McCarthy means I enjoyed all the points from Butland throughout.

If u hv Aguero till this long, then suggest hold him coz he will start against Sunderland and is that 1 person who can change ur gameweek. Sure many ppl will rush to get him next week. Team looks good otherwise. Suggest taking a hit for someone like Wijnaldum or Willian for Barkley against weaker opponents

      I'd also keep & monitor Aguero. I benched this week & I've had a decent GW 🙂

    1FT £9.3 ITB

    DDG McCarthy

Interesting that a few others have also considered keeping Mane. Everything points towards chucking him on the scrapheap and yet to quote Silvio from Sopranos: "just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in..."

Yes. Avoids Sanchez price fall and capitulates on Ramsey price rise when it happens.
Have same front line except for Mane & Sanchez . Personally benching De Bruyne and playing Wijnaldum this week

If you've kept Sanchez this long, you may as well keep him til he's back (esp. seeing as you've lost all that TV)

I'd have a sniff around the cheaper LIverpool options - lallana / Henderson as it'll free some cash for improving Cameron to Dawson / Zouma

    Yesterday was devastating.

    Moreno/ Coutinho
    Dier/Kane (c)

It all looked so promising. This season must be driving some people mad!

90 mins game time may not be assured.

Can help rise above others in ranking though. Most have Lukaku, Vardy, Ighalo or Kane starting line up. Think risk worth taking

That decision three gws ago to bring Kane instead of Ighalo 😐

Suggestions for Mane replacement? Ramsey is the obvious one but next two fixtures are quite tough.

Morning. I'm losing patience with the Saints defense. Time to lose Bertrand?

Chelsea are looking much improved in defense - time to invest?

Aside from Bellerin, Smalling, Moreno, who are you rating for good defensive returns?

    1. Jøssy ⭐
      • 11 Years

      Definitely, on the first point.

Still a bit nervous about the Chelsea defence personally. Especially as they're not cheap.

I was confident on Toby, but he let me down yesterday. WBA have some nice fixtures coming up, but have been less resolute of late (albeit through a tough fixture spell)

So boys, what do you reckon...

    Butland - Myhill
    Bellerin - Alderweireld - Moreno - Ward - Francis
De Bruyne - Özil - Coutinho - Mahrez - Bolasie
    Aguero (I) - Kane - Vardy

I really want Ramsey. Tempted to lose Coutinho for him. Assuming Aguero is gonna be fine.

However, really getting hacked off with Kane too (can't get Lukaku due to ML rules preening Utd and Everton players)

    What do you all think?

No Lukaku is a killer! Though eliminating choice can often be a blessing in disguise.

I'd save and reassess next week with 2FTs.

      Here's an idea...

I can do Bolasie > Ramsey, if I do Aguero > anyone else

However, since I can't have Lukaku that doesn't leave me full of confidence. Think I've missed the boat to get back on Ighalo. But that would leave me with this front 8:

De Bruyne - Özil - Coutinho - Mahrez - Ramsey
      Kane - Vardy (Ighalo)

      What do we reckon??

I was tempted by Ighalo to Kane but resisted, instead purchased Rambo as a 5th mid, put armbrand on him and played 352 formation and still own Aguero sitting on bench....not very big score but feels very good on those decisions...really

Upgrade Wanyama to Ramsey/Walcott/Wij and potentially bench either KDB or Vardy(will see how he looks tonight)

Current mid is KDB / Mahrez / Ozil / Coutinho / Wanyama

    or

    Save FT?
