There’s much to consider this evening as we cast an eye over the upcoming round of matches. Manuel Pellegrini’s team sheet, Chelsea’s reaction to Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, Alexis Sanchez’ availability, West Brom’s defence at the Hawthorns and Harry Kane’s form are all on our Gameweek 17 menu.

Chelsea response to Jose’s departure….
Monday’s 2-1 loss at Leicester leaves the champions just one point clear of the drop zone, with Jose Mourinho finally paying the price for their toils earlier today. Chelsea have managed just two goals and as many clean sheets in their last five league outings but a home clash against Sunderland offers the chance to start afresh as Fantasy managers look for signs of recovery at both ends of the pitch. Can Eden Hazard shrug off his hip problem and return to Fantasy prominence and will the Blues backline show just why they racked up 17 clean sheets in last term’s title-winning campaign?

Pellegrini’s team sheet….
Last week’s decision to drop Aleksandar Kolarov and Kevin de Bruyne underlined the Chilean’s intentions to rotate over the festive period. With the fixtures arriving thick and fast over the next few weeks, the Chilean looks likely to continue with the same ploy after claiming their Gameweek 15 loss at Stoke was down to fatigue. Pellegrini’s line-up for Monday’s trip to the Emirates holds plenty of interest, then, as Fantasy managers look to see how the City boss plans to utilise Sergio Aguero’s minutes, in particular, over the upcoming run of matches.

Wenger’s decision on Sanchez..
Earlier today, the Gunners boss admitted the Chilean had a “slight chance” of making Monday’s encounter with City. Wenger also went on to concede that Sanchez “says he’s always ready”, with the former Barcelona man desperate to return for a match that could put Arsenal four points clear of their opponents. Bearing in mind that the Emirates outfit have won all three matches in Sanchez’ absence, will Wenger court caution with his star attacker or unleash him against a backline that’s yet to register a single clean sheet without Vincent Kompany?

United’s patched up backline….
A 2-1 loss away to Bournemouth highlighted the Red Devils’ threadbare defence as Louis van Gaal was forced to start the likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Guillermo Varela and Paddy McNair last Saturday. This weekend’s visit of Norwich is the first of three home matches in four, though, and bearing in mind that United have conceded a single goal at Old Trafford this term, there’s optimism that they will continue to provide us a regular source of clean sheets in front of their own fans. If Chris Smalling remains sidelined, though, some may decide to bail on the back of their Dean Court showing.

Kane’s showing against the Saints….
The Spurs frontman continues to frustrate after failing to get amongst the goals in last week’s surprise home loss to Newcastle. After netting seven times in four appearances between Gameweek 10-13, Kane has now embarked on a three-match series of blanks and, worryingly for his owners, failed to produce a single touch in the box or close-range attempt against the Magpies. With Mauricio Pochettino hinting at a possible rest, we need to see Kane back in form against the Saints at St Mary’s to prevent a potential exodus.

Mane’s role up top….
Although he was unable to find the net away to Palace last weekend, the Southampton midfielder’s patient owners will be buoyed by his recent move up front. Handed a forward role as Ronald Koeman opted for a 3-5-2 against the Eagles, Mane’s advanced berth may well persuade some to hold for now. Indeed, although he’s failed to score in the last six, the Senegal international has fired 13 shots inside the box over that period – joint-top with Riyad Mahrez amongst midfielders.

Bolasie’s momentum against the Potters’ rearguard….
After netting just once in the first 11 Gameweeks, the Eagles midfielder is finally stringing together a series of consistent displays. Having teed up Yohan Cabaye for last week’s winner over Southampton, Bolasie now has three goals and an assist in five league appearances and is challenging the Frenchman as Palace’s go-to option. A trip to Stoke is far from straightforward but should Bolasie deliver again, the following four (bou, SWA, CHE, avl) could see that 5% ownership rise.

The Baggies backline at the Hawthorns ….
With eight home matches already played out, it’s somewhat surprising to see that West Brom have conceded more goals (14) in front of their own fans than any other side in the top-flight. Whilst Tony Pulis’ troops have been far more resilient on their travels, it’s a different story altogether at the Hawthorns, where they’ve been breached three times on four occasions already. A weekend visit from Bournemouth is the first of five home encounters (BOU, NEW, STO, AVL, SWA) in the next eight Gameweeks, though, and we’ll be looking for signs of resilience from Pulis’ rearguard before deciding to take the plunge.

Wijnaldum’s home comforts….
The Newcastle summer signing is the most transferred in midfielder this week ahead of a crucial run of fixtures. Having seen off Liverpool and Spurs in the last two, the Magpies now brace themselves for four home matches (AVL, EVE, MUN, WHU) in six, kicking off with the visit of Villa this Saturday evening. Wijnaldum has racked up seven goals and an assist at St James’ compared to just two assists on his travels and another big home display will surely kick start the bandwagon over Christmas, with his current ownership sitting at a mere 9%.

They will try to hit us on the counter at every point. Having wally up front makes it more difficult for teams to do that because we can counter their counter

            10 years, 7 months ago

true, but my worry is young Hector, he's being dozing off lately. Sterling will test him I'm afraid.

But Giroud is so dangerous in air (corners, free kicks) and he runs back and forward too. His workrate is getting better and better. I'd start Theo on the wing and Oli up front. On the other hand I just hope we win the match and it doesn't matter who start and who score! :p

Both won't be nailed long term. If you want a nailed 5th mid who also has decent attacking stats - Gosling. Short term both A and B are good but after Christmas/January - doubt they'll play.

Such mixed feelings about todays news.

In one hand delighted that the vile little man got the boot but on the other hand I was loving watching him unravel match after match - it was a fascinating watch, sorry it had to end. 😉

Pick a team from the fixtures to win, they win you stay in and so on till 1 player remains, you can only use that selected team once in the comp.

He's not proven at giving young players a chance though.

                        That was your point.

Now your making those two sound like academy players rather than signed for big money.

They weren't academy players they were signed to be first team players very soon.

He brings through sweet feck all.

They played u21s by virtue of being eligible to.

                        Both big money signings.

For unproven players that age, sorry big prospects that's big outlay.

That's generous. No, they develop young players not necessarily academy players. They don't always buy first team players.

I didnt miss your point at all.

I said 'your making those two sound like academy players'. That's generally the term of reference for someone who has been given a chance a brought through.

Your fired Loftus-Cherk out as example got shot down so stopped beating that drum.

Youve continued with Zouma and Courtois because you think your on to a winner but really you aren't. If they are your success stories De Bruyne and Lukaku are greater examples of him failing at doing exactly what you say.

I don't think anyone I know, who knows their stuff, would say that Mourinho gives young players a chance or develops younger players.

He buys players. In the case of Zouma, Courtois, De Bruyne and Lukaku they were all highly promising bought players, not cheap as your trying to make out all big money some more than others.

But don't try to hold two examples up on a pedestal where he has had larger failings.

To my mind he doesn't bring through players.

And when a few different posters disagreed to this earlier on rather than you pointing out my apparent failure to understand it wouldve been better maybe for you to consider that your not correct here.

                        Because you aren't.

We are coming from different angles here. He bought promising players with potential. Not first teamers initially but young players who would become first teamers. Their value rose as they developed. Bit different to buying players already in their prime, that's all I'm saying. Don't think for a minute I'm talking about an academy player who's been at the club since 8 years old

            Zouma cost them 10mil.

Loftus cheek, a few young defenders, Zouma, Courtios. These guys were young and have come through the ranks and displaced some good players. It's not just about buying first team players all the time. Get them cheap then develop them

Loftus-Cheek was given token matches who has he replaced?

And what ranks did Courtois and Zouma come through? Not Chelsea, both signed.

Courtois developed more by Athleti than Chelsea.

                Get the cheap? Wow.

And backing it up with next to no examples and saying I don't understand.

                        Mourinho brings no talent through.

You give Courtois and Zouma as examples. Your only real examples I might add.

Lukaku and De Bruyne are two of the best talents in the league.

He tossed both out like oily rags.

Didn't really develop their talent they flourished away from Mourinho and Chelsea.

I disagree totally that he develops talent but your beating the drum that he does, incorrectly IMO.

                        Football's a young man's game.

But more often than not he toss's them to the side and gets the cheque book out for a heavy hitter then.

All managers will give young players game, nature of the game.

                        Some more than others.

It's a good week to take hits as they don't count in qualification.

Who would you stick on the bench?

    Willian
    Silva
    Ozil
    Mahrez
    Sissoko
    Kane
    Vardy
    Lukaku

I'm thinking Vardy but seems a little harsh?

Bournemouth's counter-attacking pace means they can punish teams that attack them, but surely they'll struggle against a deep West Brom defence?

    I dunno, I'm not a manager, I'm just guessing.

I fancy them to score given the run they are on GB.

Impossible to predict. They could come crashing back down to earth. Or pummel WBA and grab a goal or two! Form is obviously good but bottom half teams don't regularly string three victories in a row together in this league...

WBA @ Home don't play too deep ( like they did vs Everton/Leicester...

The more I think about this, the more I think Bou will score. Brom will attack as they are at home playing a promoted side, so I expect Bou to get chances on the break.

I'm hedging my bets. I'm playing Stanislas and my two Brom defs (I don't have any better options).

Bou are a pressing team with possession. They don't counterattack really, instead they kind of flood forward.

WBA have leaked the most goals at home this season and will be giving up possession to a team that is top 4 across all offensive stats for the last 6 gw.

I think BOU are more than capable of scoring multiple goals.

Having this defence for this week, what would you do?

Myhill (BOU) Kolarov (ars) VVD (TOT) Nyom (LIV) Moreno (wat) Francis (wba)

Scratching my head here. Have 2 TOT attackers so VVD is not plausible, a WBA and a BOU defender who play each other and a LIV and WAT defender who play each other.

1 FT, plenty of cash. Bring in Dawson? Ward? Wolly? For who?

    Thanks

Play Nyom and Moreno - both might keep a CS and both might get attacking returns. Sell Francis/VVD for a Palace or Spurs defender. Play that defender benching the rest.

              Don't think so.

Getting married end of May then going to Mexico for 11 nights so that basically rules out the Euros.

The woman's brother lives in Paris so its still tempting.
