Our attentions now turn to the Sky Sports Fantasy game, as we take a look at the festive double Gameweeks data. As always, we bring you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the watchlist and a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 21 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

Fixture MoTM
Stoke vs Man United Bojan Krkic
Aston Villa vs West Ham Jordan Ayew
Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace Scott Dann
Chelsea vs Watford Diego Costa
Liverpool vs Leicester Jordan Henderson
Man City vs Sunderland Kevin de Bruyne
Swansea vs West Brom Leon Britton
Tottenham vs Norwich Dele Alli
Newcastle vs Everton Rob Elliot
Southampton vs Arsenal Shane Long
Crystal Palace vs Swansea Ashley Williams
Everton vs Stoke Bojan Krkic
Norwich vs Aston Villa Dieumerci Mbokani
Watford vs Tottenham Kieran Trippier
West Brom vs Newcastle Victor Anichebe
Arsenal vs Bournemouth Mesut Ozil
Man United vs Chelsea Anthony Martial
West Ham vs Southampton Michail Antonio
Leicester vs Man City Raheem Sterling
Sunderland vs Liverpool Christian Benteke

Quite a few differential and low-owned players chalked up the MoTM gong over the festive period. Scott Dann (10.5%) , Kevin de Bruyne (17.7%), Dele Alli (8%), Mesut Ozil (16.8%), Anthony Martial (7.4%), Raheem Sterling (9.4%) and Christian Benteke (11.1%) were the main players to make a dent in overall ranking. A special mention to our watchlist tip Bojan Krkic who was the only player to pick up the award in both his matches – the cut-price striker is another in a long list of players in this department to stake a claim for a spot in our teams.

Gameweek 21 Bonus Points

Seven goalkeepers picked up bonus this week. Vito Mannone started both Sunderland’s fixtures and picked up saves bonus on each occasion. Having seemingly ousted Costel Pantilimon from the starting XI, he could become an option if the Black Cats can tighten up at the back. Jack Butland still leads the way for keepers (14).

In defence, 15 players grabbed bonus, 13 for tackles and four for passes completed. Full-backs Eric Pieters and Adam Smith were the two to pick up tackling bonus twice. Pieters now joins Simon Francis at the top of the pile and they sit on 16 overall.

In midfield, there were 25 beneficiaries in total: 19 for tackling and 13 for passes. A number of players managed to pick up four bonus points but a special mention goes to veteran enforcer Gareth Barry, who picked up double bonus in both Everton’s fixtures to earn eight additional points. Cesc Fabregas is the game’s highest bonus earner overall with 28 points so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options for the next six fixtures. These will be looking at three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Budget Mid-Price Premium
Defender Angel Rangel, 4.8, 1.1% Craig Dawson, 5.5m, 3.5% Laurent Koscielny, 7.8m, 4.5%
Midfielder Marko Arnautovic, 5.5m, 5.3% Dimitri Payet, 6.2m, 7.6% Aaron Ramsey, 8.2m, 3.4%
Forward Shane Long, 6.9m, 1.3% Bojan Krkic, 7.4m, 1.2% Olivier Giroud, 9.2m, 7.6%

My Team

Gomes
Cathcart Dawson Nyom
Ramsey Mahrez Cabaye De Bruyne
Aguero© Lukaku Kane

ITB: 0.1m
Transfers remaining: 17/40
Last week’s points: 86
Overall points: 1126
Rank: 4,428

Notes
A drop in rank by around 2,000 places was not the best present from Santa, thanks in large to the captain fails by Aaron Ramsey and Sergio Aguero. The lack of Mesut Ozil, who was skippered by many, was also a big factor in my team’s decline.

Moving forward, I’m still pretty happy with my team, with the exception of Yohan Cabaye, whose one-match suspension has scuppered my captaincy plans. Luckily, talk of Dimitri Payet’s return is in the offing and although I don’t expect him to start at the weekend, I’ll likely draft him in early – I see him as a fairly long-term option if he can pick up where he left off. That transfer will leave me with 1.1m in the kitty for a rainy day.

Captain Plan
Originally my plan was to have Sergio Aguero as my captain for Saturday and then to switch to Yohan Cabaye on Sunday, as the latter plays in matchday one in Gameweek 23.

With the Frenchman serving out a one-match suspension at home to Chelsea this weekend, though, I’ll instead opt for either Romelu Lukaku or Harry Kane, who square off at Goodison on Sunday. This means I’ll deal with only one skipper the following week.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are sitting in first place in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 13:00 SkySports 5 where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football and discussing former Arsenal legend Tony Addams #One2Eleven

SO much scaremongering / worrying in this place about players being rested / rotated.

Seriously, how many times in a season does a manager not pick their best XI available? The league is so competitive, they just can't take those risks...

    😕

can't afford more injuries either. Just wait and see, nothing you can do about rotation. It's just 1 gw, so if a player is rotated just make sure you have a good bench/vc

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 7 months ago

But it won't happen - that's my point.

what are your thoughts on WBA defence going forward Jaf? Safe to double? Ahead of doubling up on say United, Stoke or Spurs? 😀

I've doubled up on STK - Wolls and Butland, Shifty.

I think Dawson will be a good pick all season - has some good stats going forward and the WBA set plays are always a thing of beauty. 😉

Rotation or not, no one who is gonna be rotated or when

Pick the XI you think is strongest for that week, get your bench order right and if rotation does happen, hope your bench can come through for you

I would never bench a player out of fear of rotation, only if a rest had been confirmed

Some teams will have 8/9 fixtures in January

Christmas rotation is nothing compared to January

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 7 months ago

Any evidence of 'January rotation' historically?

Anecdotally, I think it's non-existent if we're talking FPL. Yes, the FA Cup, but we don't care about that...

        1. Bøwstring The Carp
          • 14 Years
          10 years, 7 months ago

For the bigger teams it will mean less rotation due to squad depth but they won't be exempt from it. The likes of Stoke and Everton could suffer.

The C1 are tough fixtures, as are some of the FA ties. 8 games over 4 weeks, 2 games a week. Bound to be some changes/ resting when possible. Might not necessarily mean benching but reduced minutes is a big possibility for some players

            • 12 Years
            10 years, 7 months ago

Reduced minutes, yes, possibly. But if players like Arnautovic, Lukaku etc are fit, they start. They're too important to risk leaving out in the Prem. The Prem is king.

    Coutinho dilemma here.
What to do with him Want to get rid now, he's likely dropping today.
Rest of the front 7 are
    Yaya Ramsey Ozil Mahrez
Kane Lukaku Vardy Don't want to drop any of them for this GW.

Also the fact as to who I'll replace him with. Arnie a good option, but I won't really be starting him for any of my current front 7. Then there is Payet coming back next week, for really good fixtures.

Another option which I'm tempted by is, Coutinho > Arnie, and play AOA.
    My defenders are
    Dawson(STK) Bellerin(NEW) Souare(CHE) Toby(eve) Sagna(wat)

Will start Bellerin and one more if I go AOA

Reckon Ramsey can kick on this week? I have him and Coutinho! Just have this feeling that one or both is going to smash it.

Yeah. I see a 0-0 written all over that fixture. If not, I could always change with Dawson/Moreno ala lastminute.com

        I'm guessing you disagree?

Anyone else not used there AOA chip yet? I really haven't had a week that it's really shouted at me to use it, the other thing is, there is no guarantee it will bring me more points than if I didn't use it, seems like a weird chip tbh...

Yeah, but a great chip. Like many others, I used it and got fewer points than I would have had I not!

Yeah, I could easily go all season without doing it, seems like a gamble which I don't want to take, I usually keep my defense decent as well so most weeks i'm debating which ones to play not dropping them all lol

Really? Defenders only get CS points 40-50% at best. On average a defender in a good defence the past couple of seasons will only get a CS around 1/3 of the time.

Midfielders/attackers get assist + goals more often and also have more chance of bonus when they do score.

I remember one week this season where I had that same dilemma - I had 4 defenders that looked nailed on for a CS and almost played them all but decided against. None of them got a CS.

Not used any chips yet but the lads above have made a good point about playing the AOA chip this week.

However, given all the rot and injury, wouldn't this be a bad time to play it?

and my front 8 right now:

Barkers, Ozileyes, KGB, Mahrez and Rambo

        Vardy, Lukaku and Kane.

Would you play the AOA chip this week?

        1. Vardinho
          • 11 Years

same front 8 as me with Bark instead of Alli, looks good for an AOA and then if it doesn't work out at least you ain't gotta worry about it anymore 😉

I guess when alli has a good fixture and is sure if minutes I would play. Or defensive injury crisis

Also I used it fairly early on when I was plagued with injuries in defence but I've had lots of weeks since where I've had a pretty strong front 8 that I would have considered AOA had I not already used it.. think first half of the season this year has been perfect for that given the amount of low price mid/forwards doing well meaning all of my front 8 are capable of getting points on a weekly basis.

Obviously if you have a 5th mid/3rd striker that doesn't get any points then you are not going to want to use it... but that shouldn't have been the case for any team in the past 10-15 weeks whilst Aguero and other big hitters have been out/under-performing

drafting their lengthy post after an Aguero(c) goal + 0 bps along the lines of "Aguero(c) 😎 told you lot he would come good, always Aguero(c) " but realized they probably sold Kane for Aguero or gave him the armband the previous 2-3 GWs and missed a bunch of alternate captain points.

If you were to double up on a defence for the short-mid term, which team would it be?

    A) United
    B) Stoke
    C) WBA
