Chelsea’s return to form continues with a comprehensive away win over Palace, with Diego Costa, Oscar and Willian all grabbing a goal and assist. Elsewhere, Aaron Lennon and Dele Alli both find the net as honours finish even at Goodison.

Blues Back on Track

In the wake of back-to-back draws, Chelsea played out a commanding 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, marking their first win on the road since August. The Blues are now unbeaten in four matches since Jose Mourinho departed and Gus Hiddink took the reins, forcing us to reassess their Fantasy potential ahead of a four home fixtures (WBA, EVE, MUN, NEW) in the next six.

Having bagged a brace in his last start against West Bromwich Albion, Diego Costa returned from suspension to display further signs of improvement with a goal and an assist at Selhurst Park. The Spain international harbours the potential to be a profitable differential, yet his pockmarked injury and disciplinary record could serve as deterrents for prospective investors.

Eden Hazard was subbed off at the 16-minute mark with a groin injury, but Willian and Oscar compensated for the Belgian’s absence with aplomb, notching a goal and assist apiece. The former has now produced one goal and three assists in his previous four starts, while the latter boasts two goals and one assist in four outings, furnishing us with two viable, mid-priced routes into Chelsea’s resurgent midfield.

Cesar Azpilicueta’s 11% ownership benefited from Chelsea’s second successive clean sheet and the Spaniard’s fourth bonus point in two starts. Azpilicueta (5.7) represents their cheapest secure starter, but upcoming match-ups against Everton and Arsenal limit the Londoners’ shutout appeal in the short term.

Palace Stutter at Home Again

Palace drew their third consecutive blank as they failed to win for the fifth home tie in seven. The Eagles suffered in the absence of the suspended Yohan Cabaye, mustering the joint-fewest key passes (six) of any team across the Gameweek. They’re likely to have more joy on that front next time out, though, as they travel to face an Aston Villa outfit that’s claimed just two clean sheets this campaign.

Worryingly for Alan Pardew, his squad has been unable to cope with injuries to Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham: since the attacking duo succumbed to injury, Palace rank second-bottom for attempts (25), joint-bottom for big chances (two) and bottom for shots on target (five). That revelation will be music to the ears of Fantasy mangers who have recruited from Manchester City’s back line, given that the Eagles make the trip to the Etihad after Villa.

Lennon Strike Not Enough for Toffees

Aaron Lennon came back to haunt his previous employers with a stunning effort as Everton held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 stalemate at Goodison Park. The former Spurs stalwart was preferred to Gerard Deulofeu on the right flank, with Roberto Martinez later explaining that he’s making an effort to rotate his squad. Although Deulofeu is likely still ahead of Lennon in the pecking order, the fact that the Toffees embark on four fixtures over the next fortnight ensures he’s a rotation risk in the league.

Romelu Lukaku failed to score for just the second time in 10 outings but kept his points ticking over with an assist. The ex-Chelsea man currently charts top among forwards for total score (135) but has his work cut out across the next two Gameweeks as Everton gear up for road clashes against Man City and Chelsea. It’s worth noting, however, that those two sides have tallied just five home clean sheets between them throughout the season.

Alli Nets Again for Spurs

Spurs extended their unbeaten streak to four matches courtesy of Dele Alli’s silky finish just before the break. Valued at 5.3, the 19-year-old all-action midfielder has chalked up three goals and two assists in six starts, rendering him a prime pick-up in the budget bracket. In light of Tottenham’s excellent schedule (LEI, SUN, cry, nor, WAT) and Alli’s recent productivity, he could act as a fourth midfielder for those managers attempting to raise funds for the capture of Sergio Aguero.

Harry Kane was marshaled well by the hosts’ rearguard and failed to score for the fifth Gameweek in seven. That being said, few owners will be contemplating his sale prior to successive home encounters, given that the Lilywhites place third for home goals (18) this term.

Toby Alderweireld again provided the searching long ball for Alli’s volleyed winner, a repeat of the combination which brought Tottenham’s goal in Gameweek 15. The assist helped Alderweireld to the maximum bonus, handing the Belgian an eight-point return despite failing to earn a clean sheet.

While Spurs have kept just four clean sheets in their last 12 league outings, they’ve conceded more than one goal in just one of those 12 matches – at home to Newcastle in Gameweek 15. Alderweireld’s short-term potential looks strong, then, given that Leicester have failed to score in their last three outings and could be without Jamie Vardy following yesterday’s news on his forthcoming surgery.

Three weeks ago the forum was asking how Leicester might do when their fixtures change...in particular Mahrez and Vardy. The general consensus was season keepers. Well three games on they have 12 pts between them. Mmmmm.

They are both very different. Mahrez much easier to keep with 5 spots to accommodate him. There was no way i was going to be keeping Vardy long term

No striker is a season keeper with only 3 spots up front.. Ighalo potentially purely due to his insane value so far but other than that they're all interchangeable.

Kane / Giroud / Lukaku / Kun / Costa / Vardy all look like options.

Vardy hit the post this week too, could be a different story, that would have probably meant 3 baps too.

Yup. Got lot of stick by saying Vardy needs to go. Altough getting Aguero for him hasn't been great decision either.

Not in terms of playing ability but in terms of how seriously we should be considering transferring him in.. He doesn't really suit my team so I'd have to drop one of Arnie or Mahrez for him and I don't think I want to but.... (there's always a but)

RMT has me benching Mahrez 3 out of the next 4 (and he's not far off this week). Is there a danger that we are going to be so reluctant to bench him that we end up benching big points as he continues to toil?

For those that have a strong 5 midfielders it's a strong possibility. Leicester have lost their mojo a bit so I can see why people want to bench.

He may well be the one that becomes Payet for me but I'll give him longer than most players to show me what he can do given his performances until know.

I'll be keeping him, his price gives me no need to sell, but I am very tempted to bench him this week. It's him, Alli or Arnautovic, they could all punish me.

Yeah RMT is slightly off imo, it has me benching Lukaku this week (not even a consideration for me), but it does raise some questions about the idea of never benching Mahrez.

    4. Reedy
      • 15 Years
      9 years, 11 months ago

Quite possibly. I've benched him successfully once and had two captain fails with him. But given what he's capable of, I don't think I can bench him again and he'll always be a contender for my armband.

      1. Doolittle
        • 13 Years
        9 years, 11 months ago

This is the problem, I feel like I'll end up playing him every week more out of fear than expectation. We've already seen people sell/bench Aguero and Sanchez before big hauls this season, I'd be worried about falling into the same trap. Then again, with a strong front 8, I could be (and have been) punished by any of them.

        1. Reedy
          • 15 Years
          9 years, 11 months ago

Yes, I don't know what the answer is really. I suppose we have to be brave but not foolish...Spurs away is a tricky fixture so I can see where you're coming from. I might have to bench Lukaku away to City before I do that though - and that's also fraught with danger of course.

Right guys i/we need a lot of in depth advice on selling KDB for yaya when on a wc? Right now yaya is in far better form and has more pts, while most here say KDB Is brilliant at home yet he only has 3 or 4 big scores this year. So surly it's a no brainer if on a wc?

Please all I need loads of good advice on this as it's doing my head in

If I was on a WC I think I'd still go with KDB. More advanced role and in my opinion a greater points threat - and that's a major compliment given how good YYT is. Also long term KDB will be easier to switch to another big hitter such as Sanchez, Silva, or even Hazard if Chelsea start playing. Or YYT! Less places to go if you need to replace YYT without reshaping the squad. Sounds daft but when on aWC you should look long term.

Definitely would be easier to get a big hitter but that's only going to be sanchez or hazard. And as I said yaya has now scored more points than KDB this year!

          9 years, 11 months ago

What is the point of asking then if you have made your mind up that YYT will get more points, and is cheaper? The answer is easy. Get YYT. But my opinion remains that KDB will outscore him between now and the end of the season.

2 FTs and no money ITB but I don't see any urgent issues.

    DDG
    Toby - Bellerin - Bertrand /. Moreno
    Mahrez - Arnaoutovic - kdb - ozil
    Kun - Lukaku -kane

    McCarthy - Targett - King

    A. Moreno to Williams and save 1.
    B. Sort out bench. Suggestions?

    2FTs
    2.3 ITB

    DDG Hennessey
    Monreal Moreno Dawson Simpson Souare
    Silva Coutinho Ramsey Mahrez Sinlcair
    Aguero Kane Ighalo

    GW20
    Dawson to Williams

    GW21
    Coutinho to Payet
    Ramsey to Sanchez

Thoughts on the above? Should I be getting Payet in this week?

I dodged a bullet with Cout, I really wanted him for a while and never got around to getting him.. Seems to me like he's another Barkley, must be something on Merseyside that affects consistency.

    Which one for next weeks?

    a) Payet
    b) Alli

Payet just back from injury, but there's time until next PL match.
West Ham have good fixtures, but 4 out of next 6 is away.
Alli would also give me funds to get Toby for gw22.
Not so sure about playing Alli every week tough..might be price issue tbh.

Unfortunate thing is I could have got Toby last gw, but went for cheapie instead so I can them play one match and have time to think about this more.
And now Alli's price already rose and Payet is going up tonight.

Aaargh, you always wish to have 2ft before break and then when you have it, it's not any better situation to be in 🙁

Stanislas not good enough 5th mid?
Stretch to Alli and downgrade elsewhere surely worth it since not uncomfortable playing him in case of injury, like now Vardy has to be on bench and you wouldn't wanna play Stanislas do you?

West Ham paid 7m to Forest for him, so he should be nailed on especially after his laast couple of games. Last season scored 15 goals for Forest, isn't he?
