We make our way to the Weekly Shop this Wednesday evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re once again scanning the player lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United picked up an eleventh clean sheet of the campaign at Anfield, maintaining the best defensive record in the division. David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.1m) made four saves and picked up two bonus points against the Reds and now welcomes Southampton to Old Trafford this weekend. United have conceded just four times in 10 matches in front of their own fans, whilst for all their recent improvement, the Saints continue to toil on their travels and have scored just twice in the previous four away matches.

Everton’s 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge exhibited both their strengths and weaknesses last weekend. Only City have scored more goals this term, though on the other hand, the Toffees record of 32 goals against is better than just six other sides. Given that weekend visitors Swansea have scored just twice in their last five road trips, though, Roberto Martinez’ men will be optimistic of a third clean sheet in six. Leighton Baines (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 6.5m) offers a relatively cut-price route into the defence and served up two assists against the Blues, reminding us of past glories and his ability to produce returns at both ends of the pitch.

Given that the Swans have kept just a single clean sheet away from the Liberty, Everton’s attacking assets are also worth considering. Ross Barkley (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.4m) has been quiet in recent weeks but has already notched six goals and eight assists and is a viable midfield option, having recorded nine attempts over the last four league matches. Striker Romelu Lukaku (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 12.3m) is also likely to be a hugely popular pick this week, having scored or assisted in each of his last six home appearances.

After a lay-off with injury, Roberto Firmino (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 10.6m Forward) has featured more regularly for Liverpool and had growing influence over the last 12 Gameweeks. The increased pitch time has seen the Brazilian record a 50% involvement in the Reds’ goals over that period, picking up three goals and four assists, including double-figure hauls against Man City and Arsenal. Up against a Norwich with three clean sheets to their name all season, Firmino looks the man most likely for the Merseysiders.

Poundstretchers

Watford’s home encounter with Newcastle offers the Hornets a chance to bounce back after chalking up a fourth straight loss at Swansea last Monday evening. Quique Sanchez Flores’ men have kept six clean sheets in ten in front of their own fans and with the Magpies drawing blanks in their last two away matches, Heurelho Gomes (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 6.9m) looks an ideal option between the sticks. The Brazilian remains third on points in the overall goalkeeper leaderboard and with new arrival Costel Pantilimon waiting in the wings, should be eager to put in a performance here.

We’re also backing Watford’s budget frontman Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.1m) to end a three-match goal drought this weekend.. The Nigerian had netted nine times in as many matches prior to that run of blanks and Newcastle roll up having shipped 21 goals in their last ten away fixtures, conceding two or more in five of those ties.

Sam Allardyce’s pragmatic approach appears to have given Sunderland a fighting chance of survival – two wins and eight goals scored over the last three indicates a revival of fortunes on Wearside. Patrick Van Aanholt (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has been the unlikely source of three of those goals and even served up an assist against Swansea. The in-form left-back now welcomes a Bournemouth side that have drawn blanks in each of their last two on the road.

Jermaine Defoe (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.3m) has also been in fine form. The veteran striker netted five times in the two recent victories including a hat-trick against Swansea and could deliver great value against the Cherries.

If you’re looking for a cheap enabler in midfield this week, Jesse Lingard (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 5m) could help to fill a spot and provide funds to spend elsewhere. The Manchester United youngster is a bit of a risky pick, but, having started the last two and scored against Newcastle, the midfielder could be utilised once again for the visit of Southampton.

West Brom’s Craig Dawson (FantasyBet 5.0m, Premier Punt 7.6m) is another to consider. The right-back welcomes midlands rivals Villa to the Hawthorns and, as well as scoring twice this term, provided the assist for Salomon Rondon’s FA Cup winner over Bristol City last night. Remi Garde’s side have scored just three times in their last five road trips, suggesting a clean sheet could be on the cards for Tony Pulis’ defensive regulars.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into this week’s fixtures. I’ll bring you up to date on my progress in our partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt – in my articles next week, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

How certain are you he'll start vs Swansea? It's pretty tight in my league so not sure if I'll just take the soft option and get Barkley.

Well I was reluctantly going to Barkley as well. I personally think he has been pretty lucky with his returns this season. He is a very very boring pick as well. Mirallas was suggested and he just the kind of flair pick I wanted. He is obviously not nailed-on but his form of late and Martinez' encouraging words about him suggest he is going to get a decent run. I only plan to have him in the short term anyway

I don't have kaku. If I did I wouldn't, but without him I will for this game at least if I get him, still undecided. But it'd leave me with 2 x arsenal and 2 x everton in midfield. A huge risk, so still considering. If I don't get him this week maybe next.

I had him, sold him for Kun. Picked Kane over Kaku. All 3 would mean saving a FT and probably getting Targett. I don't know. Life is full of tough decisions.

What has swung your opinion? Great fixtures and playing up top!

Only caveat that I can see is that he may get taken off after 70 for Benteke

Well, Everton also have great fixtures and they are a proven attacking force this season. Especially when they had their first 'turn of fixtures' they didn't fail to deliver. Liverpool, on the other hand, are still finding their feet. Firmino is only there because Sturridge is a crock and Benteke is useless and lazy. Ayew is another OoP midfielder who hasn't really benefited from being up top.

100.4 on fpl stats but I don't think he will

Which do you think I should do TL
      A) Kane to Lukaku
      B) Ramsey to Payet

If I do A I will be getting Payet next week anyway
If I do B I will get Lukaku next week anyway
I know B seems obvious but I just have a feeling about Ramsey scoring

Ah yeah on that dgw info, I'm pretty much set already if it happens with 2 everton, 1 liverpool and 2 city so after Jags I'd just be looking to bring in a keeper in gw25 so you can kinda discount that from your thinking. I didn't watch the match, but if Everton didn't get any corners after Mirallas came on they have nothing to say that Baines is ahead of him in the pecking order.

Baines first I guess. Corners taken in the last 6 gameweeks:

                      Baines 22
                      Deulofeu (opposite side) 7
                      Barkely 3
BArry, Cleverley, Lukaku, Mirallas, Oviedo 1

In terms of corners? Baines x2, Deu x1, Oviedo x1

In terms of them chucking a two goal lead? Standard Martinez defending and they didn't look to shut up shop when 2-0 up. (yes I realise I'm still considering Jags)

well they've not updated Everton's corner takers. Last I saw was just a post from Jonty saying he'd updated Leicester's penalty takers off the back of the Ranieri quotes.

Have both and I think Ramsey should go. Returns are too inconsistent. I might lose both soon in any case..

      Ramsey

Only player worthy of Ozil spot is Sanchez

Depends on what you'd do with that extra money.

Who shall I sell for Payet?

    Ozil, Mahrez, Wijnaldum, Arnautovic?

Mahrez or Arnautovic. Don't think I'd do either this week though.

I think Wijnaldum is a potentially dangerous man IF you think Newcastle have turned a corner
I do and have him. I'm considering ditching Mahrez but as I'm protecting a mini league lead I probably won't. If I was 100 behind instead of 50 ahead. I would. Leicester look tired to me. They might prove me wrong but it would be a chance worth taking if chasing. In short, your position vis a vis your season aims might make this call for you. They are all decent options and so is Payet

Scared to get rid of Mahrez, I missed his 6 goals in 3 weeks then got him back in & he's missed 2 pens, 1 week I captained him

Ozil to Payet then Arnautovic/Mahrez to Sanchez the following week?!

Cant see why people are thinking about Ozil> Sanchez. I can understand if you need to free money up but having them both is ideal. Ozil this season has been playing like the old Ozil of Madrid.

I wonder if he's been so advanced because Sanchez has been out though?

He has always been a great player, I think adjusting to the BPL was hard for him pace wise, but now that he has his quality is shining through.

I don't disagree at all about his quality. But he can dictate and win games without picking up the fantasy returns he has thus far. I'd worry he could become the second assister if his position goes back a little as Sanchez returns. That doesn't mean he becomes a poor player he just becomes slightly less compelling from our point of view. Hope not as he's a key part of my assault on the Telegraph game where Sanchez is classed as a striker! In the top 200 with most of my transfers left in that game!

Hasn't it generally been Sanchez' output that suffers when the two play together? Seem to remember that being a theme here last season...

Walcott has the biggest influence on Sanchez' returns.

I've managed to resist the WC this week so expect I can hold until the post-DGW mess later on. I wish Sanchez would make a proper comeback so I can lose KDB as that is the sensible simple 1 transfer way to Sanchez. Of course a big KDB haul and a successful Sanchez comeback would make for some interesting decisions and might mean I have to drop my phone down a toilet to stop myself losing my WC!

It's hard to hang onto the WC when you know DGW's are round the corner, too tempting.

A team buying him deserves to tumble down the table. Insane.

Do we think the teams that have important midweek games will play at their best GW23?
    i.e. Stoke/Everton/Liverpool/Citeh

Not sure. It's a worry though given Aguero and Lukaku are my two main captaincy options...
