A somewhat truncated Gameweek 30 sees the bottom three square up to title-chasing candidates over the next few days. We triple up on Spurs and Leicester, then, and also call upon a couple of options from Stoke and Man City ahead of the upcoming five league fixtures.

Stoke’s Jack Butland gets the nod between the sticks as Southampton roll up to St Mary’s. With Ryan Shawcross potentially back on board, he’ll be confident of rebuffing an attack that’s scored just three times in their last seven on the road.

Leicester’s Christian Fuchs entertains a Newcastle outfit that’s netted just seven times on their travels this term – fewer than any other side. The Foxes left-back has served up five clean sheets and eight bonus points in his last six King Power appearances, whilst his penchant for attacking points has seen him register assists against the likes of United, Spurs and City so far this season.

The top scoring defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld visits an Aston Villa outfit that’s notched just four times in the last seven Gameweeks. The Belgian’s threat in the box came to fruition again in last week’s north London derby, taking his attacking tally to three goals and as many assists ahead of Sunday afternoon’s encounter.

We’re backing Vincent Kompany as City make their way to Carrow Road. A 4-0 win over Villa last time means that the Etihad side have eight clean sheets in 11 league outings with their skipper in the starting XI, and he now faces a Norwich attack that’s netted just three times in the last six league matches.

Swansea’s in-form Gylfi Sigurdsson retains his Scout Picks place on the back of last week’s winner against Norwich. The Icelandic international has played a part in five of his side’s eight strikes (four goals, one assist) since Francesco Guidolin took the helm and is the man most likely to deliver away to a Bournemouth outfit that’s conceded 21 times in front of their own fans – only four sides boast inferior home records.

Christian Eriksen is our preferred Spurs option in the centre of the park. The Dane leads all midfielders for shots on target (nine) in his last four matches and with 12 chances also created over that period, his all-round threat will pose Villa’s backline problems aplenty.

Riyad Mahrez welcomes Newcastle to the King Power on the back of last week’s match-winner at Watford – a goal that earned him an eleventh double-figure haul of the season. Up against a defence that’s conceded in each of their last eight road trips, the in-form wide man may well be the party-pooper in Rafa Benitez’ first match in charge of the Magpies.

Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic comes in for the visit of Southampton. The Austrian’s recent home brace against Villa means he’s scored six of his last seven goals at the Britannia and with Jose Fonte suspended for the Saints, Mark Hughes’ men could be in line for a fifth win in seven in front of their own fans.

Our front three pretty much pick themselves this week. Despite missing a spot-kick against Villa last week, Sergio Aguero still found time to bag a third brace in his last seven appearances ahead of a trip to Carrow Road. Considering the Canaries have shipped 12 goals in four in front of their own fans, there’s no surprise to see the Argentine far ahead of the pack in this week’s Captain Poll.

Afforded a brief second-half run-out in last night’s loss to Dortmund, Harry Kane will be unleashed from the start as Spurs roll up to Villa Park on Sunday. With four goals in as many road trips, the Spurs frontman could run riot against a defence that’s conceded 15 times in their last four league outings.

Jamie Vardy will also be licking his lips for Leicester’s home encounter with Newcastle. Despite blanking in back to back appearances, the Foxes frontman has been highly consistent in front of his own fans, producing a goal or assist in 11 of his 14 King Power appearances.

Charlie Daniels warms the bench for Bournemouth’s home clash with Swansea. With two goals, three assists and a trio of clean sheets in his last eight appearances, the Cherries left-back offers a strong shout for points at either end of the pitch.

We also call upon Josh King for the Dean Court head-to-head. The 4.3-priced midfielder racked up 13 points from the central support berth last weekend and welcomes a Swansea outfit that’s managed a single shut-out on their travels all season.

Southampton’s fit-again Shane Long is our final selection. Having scored five times in his last 11 league outings, the Irishman rolls up to the Britannia in decent form tomorrow afternoon.

The Community Champions

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

In addition to a shot at the £100 Amazon prize, FantasyBet are offering a chance for further prizes to Community Champions that are eligible to play their games. More details can be found here.

Red Devil leads the way after beating the Picks by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

Gameweek 29’s Community Champion BabyB was defeated 73 points to 41 by the Scout Picks.

We’ve failed to hear back from Gameweek 30’s Scout Picks Community Champion, so site moderator andy85wsm kindly stepped in at the last minute to select the Community Picks instead. His XI is as follows: Schmeichel; Daniels, Walker, Kolarov; Mahrez, Sterling, Shaqiri, Eriksen, King; Aguero, Kane.

Been thinking of Targett to Kompany with a free transfer, while I have 12 able players for GW30 with Targett on the bench. Not too confident in Targett and at least Kompany has a DGW coming and could help this week (and bench Williams). Then I saw City plays Man United next week and immediately thought red card coming. But when I look at the history, Kompany has 3 PL red cards in the last 4.75 years, 2 vs ManU & 1 vs Arsenal. Wasn't there another vs ManU in the FA Cup? Maybe all these reds were away? Anyway, this has made me pause.

Surely too soon to be looking at the OR changes coming up this weekend, but some thoughts :

Current points spread for OR looks like this :
500k is at 1505 pts (approx)
    100k is at 1585
    10k is at 1655
    1k is at 1705

According to Balders post from earlier this week, the average starting players in top 10k this week after transfers is around 9. Top 100k and 500k should be around the same.

Now it looks like most of our players are pretty much the same this week ( 3 Leic, 3 Spurs, 2 or 3 ManC). As a result, I don't think you can really count on your players being differentials to get ahead. However, if we all have good weeks with 60+ points, lets say on average each of our players will score 5 to 6 points.

Assuming you can put out a full 11 with no hits, I think you can count on being 10 to 12 points ahead of the top 10k average already. Using the points spread from above and assuming a uniform distribution, this should see a jump of :

100k places if you are in the 250,000 OR range
15k places if you are in 50,000 OR range
1k places if you are in the 5,000 OR range

Are these numbers way off, or reasonable do you think ? Of course we have no way of knowing for sure, but just speculating...

posted something similar, though far less detailed, a few minutes ago. its very interesting and as you say just speculation.

no way of knowing this or indeed proving it but i'm not particularly sure that too many teams in the top half million will have as many as 9 players playing, certainly the ones in my mini leagues around that figure don't have that many - and those that do seem to have an overload of defenders

      1. Enzo the Baker
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

Yep TBH it was reading your post that got me thinking on this, was initially supposed to be a reply to you. Yeah 9 is probably on the higher side, I think its the top10 average number of starters

        1. Bazzalona
          • 14 Years
          10 years, 4 months ago

it might be 9 to be fair I've just been looking at my mini league rivals and people around my OR.

the big thing for me is who these teams contain - ideally they'll have the front 3 of aguero kane and vardy plus the midfielders like mahrez siggy alli etc, but the majority of the ones I've looked at don't have a lot of those players.

and though nothing is guaranteed in this game you'd think teams with the bigger hitters will score bigger than the ones who have to play 5-3-2 or even teams with 9 players who only have 1 or 2 strikers.

guess we'll know by Monday night!

            • 12 Years
            10 years, 4 months ago

Right, the logical assumption based on past seasons is that if you're playing a 3-4-3 this weekend with Kun, Kane, Vardy, Alli, Mahrez, Siggy, Silva/Eriksen/Arnie up front, you should do better than those fielding a 5-3-2. Let's hope that this gameweek sticks to that script and we get a nice jump 🙂 good luck to you!

Way off. Unless your players are already better, the average player above gets 11 players after a 4pt hit. 4pts gained.

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

I'm not sure, Woy. I think the number being mentioned earlier this week was top 10k have 8 starters if Arsenal beat Hull. I'm assuming with 1 FT they can push it up to 9 starters. That still leaves them having to take a -8 to field a full 11, or just play with 9 and risk falling behind if its a high scoring week all around.

Did some research into Kane's scoring exploits in the league and what I found was rather surprising..

    Without mask - 16 goals

    With mask - 1 goal

    Aguero (c) it is

you'd think he'd just dump the mask. he's like 16 times more likely to score!

Remarkable considering the stats of Carlos Tevez which directly contradict this...

      Without mask - 0 goals
      With mask - 84

Maybe it depends how intimidating the mask is?

What would you recommend for this team?

    Forster
    Wollschied, Fuchs, Daniels, Kompany
    Mahrez, Arnie, Alli
    Kane, Vardy, Aguero(c)

    Myhill, Ozil, Ward, Payet

£2.3 in the bank and 2 free transfers

So I managed to get to gameweek 30, with 11 players on the pitch and 2 free transfers! any tips appreciated.

I know I'm so stuck. I could trade out Ivan to Kompany, nice fixtures can score goals and even though Chelsea have got villa next week.

            Ah its so difficult haha

Would you double on City defence this week?

Only problem is getting the second defender after Kompany (not Hart). Considering Otamendi

Nope. Not worth doubling. Norwich are always good for a goal at home

If you wanted a ManCity mid....who would you go for?

I liked the look of Yaya, but it looks like thats off the table....Sterling is a donkey in my book....so maybe.....Silva? (been burned with him earlier this year)
