Enner Valencia is amongst the goals for Ecuador. Shinji Okazaki notches for Japan, Ryan Bertrand pulls out of England duties, whilst Liverpool duo Christian Benteke and Divock Origi withdraw from the Belgium squad due to injury.

Valencia nets in Ecuador stalemate

West Ham’s Enner Valencia kicked off the scoring as Ecuador played out a 2-2 draw against Paraguay.

The Scout Says: The surfeit of forward options at Slaven Bilic’s disposal lends itself to rotation, forcing us to concentrate on West Ham’s midfield in our search for attacking coverage. With two goals and four assists in his last four starts, Dimitri Payet has firmly established himself as the top pick ahead of the Irons’ double Gameweek 34 (lei, WAT). Elsewhere in the Hammers camp, Manuel Lanzini’s stock rose after his goal last weekend, while Michail Antonio – who’s filled in at right-back recently but should vacate that role upon the return of James Tomkins or Sam Byram after the international break – lays claim to three goals in four outings. Extending our focus to West Ham’s double Gameweek 37 (SWA, MUN), Antonio’s home form (four double-figure hauls in six) arguably make him a very attractive proposition for the final few furlongs, given that Payet has managed one double-figure at home all season.

Watford duo in the goals

The Hornets centre-half Craig Cathcart scored for Northern Ireland in a 1-1 draw against Wales, while wide man Ikechi Anya steered Scotland to a 1-0 victory over Czech Republic.

The Scout Says: Looking beyond the Hornets’ upcoming pair of testing fixtures (ars, EVE), their doubles in Gameweeks 34 (wba & whu) and Gameweek 37 (liv & nor) throw up a quartet of road clashes. Although Watford chalked up just two clean sheets in their last 13 head-to-heads, the fact that only two teams conceded fewer goals (five) than the Hertfordshire outfit over the past six Gameweeks suggests that shut-outs could be imminent. Owing to his security of starts, the 4.6-priced Cathcart could tempt prospective investors in a Watford rearguard that’s surrendered the seventh-fewest shots inside the box (112) in away matches. At the other end of the pitch, though, five goals in their last ten league outings suggests few will be prepared to punt on Quique Sanchez Flores’ attackers right now.

Concerns Up Front for Liverpool

Christian Benteke (undisclosed injury) and Divock Origi (thigh problem) both withdrew from the Belgium squad on Thursday and will plot a course back to Liverpool to receive treatment.

The Scout Says: With Roberto Firmino missing the trip to Southampton due to a hamstring problem, it’s somewhat ironic that Daniel Sturridge is the Reds’ only fully fit forward ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s visit next Gameweek. In the event that the Belgian marksmen are sidelined for a chunk of matches, Jurgen Klopp would be loath to over-work Sturridge – who’s not strung together four starts this season – in a period where the Reds play seven fixtures in 21 days. Given that the German has played down the seriousness of Firmino’s problem, the Brazilian (six goals and four double-figure hauls as striker) could well be set to earn further minutes as the spearhead of the Merseysiders’ attack, boosting his appeal over Philipp Coutinho ahead of the upcoming pair of double Gameweeks.

Haidara worry for Magpies

Rafa Benitez revealed that Massadio Haidara is set to be assessed after sustaining a knee injury in training:

“We don’t know yet (how long he’ll be out for) but he twisted his knee. I think he’ll have a problem. Now we have to manage the problem that we have.”

The Scout Says: With Haidara facing a spell on the sidelines, Paul Dummett nursing a hamstring complaint and Jack Colback picking up a two-match suspension, Newcastle United are desperately short of left-backs for their Gameweek 32 trip to Norwich. Incidentally, Moussa Sissoko was asked to fill in at left-back in response to Colback’s withdrawal in the Tyne-Wear derby, which diminishes the appeal of a midfielder that ranks top among his Magpies counterparts for penalty-box touches (15), attempts (five) and shots inside the box (five) across the last two Gameweeks. Such a scenario could persuade some to turn to Georginio Wijnaldum or Andros Townsend as a route into Rafa’s midfield ahead of their pair of home matches (SWA, MCI) in Gameweek 34.

Jedinak Notches in Australia Stroll

Mile Jedinak netted a penalty for Australia in a 7-0 win over Tajikistan, before being subbed off at half time for the sake of preservation.

The Scout Says: Following news that Crystal Palace will embark on a double Gameweek 33 (NOR, EVE) due to the rescheduling of their home tie against Everton, the Eagles now face the prospect of four match-ups in 12 days, given that the FA already handed them a double Gameweek 34 (ars, mun). The difficulty of Palace’s fixtures over that period and the fact they’re in the midst of a 13-match winless streak discourages investment in their Fantasy assets, but yesterday’s announcement has certainly boosted the short-term prospects of Scott Dann (five goals and two assists) and Yannick Bolasie (no midfielder surpassed his five attempts last weekend) as we sharpen up our wildcard plans.

Okazaki amongst the goals

Shinji Okazaki scored a sublime opening goal for Japan as the Samurai Blue recorded a 5-0 win over Afghanistan.

The Scout Says: Allied with his overhead strike against Newcastle United, Okazaki’s exploits for Japan underline his recent upturn in form. Regardless, with a bumper double Gameweek on the horizon for a bevy of other teams, Leicester’s attacking recruits are more likely to be shipped out, with Jamie Vardy – who’s delivered back-to-back assists – primed for the biggest drop in ownership as many shift their crosshairs onto Romelu Lukaku (three goals in five, successive double Gameweeks). Even those managers who are planning to bench boost in Gameweek 34 might feel inclined to retain the services of Riyad Mahrez, considering that 11 double-figure hauls epitomise his capacity to outscore double Gameweek players.

Mixed news for Saints defensive duo

Southampton’s Maya Yoshida scored a headed goal in the second half of Japan’s Asian Cup qualifier, while his St Mary’s team-mate Ryan Bertrand pulled out of the England squad due to injury.

The Scout Says: By virtue of his offensive prowess, Virgil van Dijk – who charts top among his defensive teammates for goals (three), attempts (21) and shots on target (seven) this term – represents the prime route into Saints rearguard. On the budget side of things, Matt Targett (3.9) would likely be granted a prolonged run of starts if Bertrand is consigned to the treatment room, yet few punters will be enthused by a back line that’s without a clean sheet in five outings, doesn’t benefit from a double Gameweek and is on the road for four of the next six Gameweeks (lei, NEW, eve, avl, MCI, tot).

Ayew nets for victorious Ghana

Villa’s Jordan Ayew served a reminder of his goal-getting abilities by gracing the scoreboard for Ghana in a 3-1 win over Mozambique yesterday.

The Scout Says: Given that no team has accrued fewer goals than Aston Villa (four) since Gameweek 23, it’s fair to say that Remi Garde’s troops are a non-factor on the Fantasy market. Ultimately, the fact that they shipped seven more goals (18) than any side across the previous six Gameweeks and are sinking into the Championship without a fight illustrates the merit in targeting their upcoming opponents instead. On that note, those managers who plan to wildcard in Gameweek 33 may be tempted to source a Chelsea differential ahead of their trip to Villa Park next time out.

Does Funes Mori offers enough goal threat to justify his lofty price tag? If jagielka, Stones & Mori all are fit, can we be absolutely certain who'll miss out in all four matches?

There is just no way Kun will start for City on the 2nd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 16th and the 19th. Right?

Should be rested on the 9th imo. Opinions?

Also as most dgw forwards are a bit punty(Rashford, Martial, Welbeck, Gru etc), anyone thinking about going with a 5-piece powerhouse in the midfield instead(if KdB is back)?

Aye it's scary without. But what I was getting at was to pair up my 2 ideas. Going without Kun(who could limp off at any point) would allow an extremely interesting midfield 5.

I think Lanzini is enough of an enabler (for my TV anyway) for me to have both 🙂

              Sanchez - KdB - Payet - Mahrez - Lanzini
              Kun - Kane - Lukaku.

I'd sooner lose Kane than Kun tbh.

Doesn't matter if he's their best player....In fact scrap that, If the league is a write off by that time then the fact he is their "best player" probably increases the likelihood of a rest ready for CL...

    GOMES
    BELLERIN Toby Fuchs
    SANCHEZ FIRMINO PAYET OZIL
    AGUERO LUKAKU DEENEY

    Forster Mahrez Daniels Wolly

Question is. Apart from Toby, Fuchs and Mahrez who I would like to keep. Is it worth bringing in doublers with wildcard and bench boosting?

I cant see Elliott, Rojo and Sakho getting too many points tbh. Hardly worth it.

I assume its only the chasers and the desperate that are considering selling Aguero for a home game against West Brom followed by a DGW (followed by a fixture)

You could argue the same for selling Leicester and Spurs players for the likes of Bolasie and Lingard.

Yeah but people are selling them for DGW players. Not fool proof but understandable.
But Aguero is a DGW player with a fixture after it and he's still getting the chop.
        Brave or stupid?

Good friday to you all. Any suggestions for my 1FT this week before I wildcard gw33? Would like to do Siggy to Payet (C) ideally but can't afford without a hit (0.3 in bank). Is it worth it?

    Foster (Forster)
    Azpi Bellerin Huth (Williams Toby)
    Ozil Mahrez Alli Arnie (Siggy)
    Kun Kane Lukaku

Here she is. WC is active. Feel free to copy for ultimate green arrows

    Ddg Elliot
    Bellerin Koscielny Jagielka Fuchs Sahko
    Ozil Coutinho Payet Mahrez Lanzini
    Lukaku Kun Kane

Gw34 jagielka -> Rojo potentially for united double up and will have a FT to burn

For anyone who's had a little bet on the match play golf later, here's a good little easy to read article of all the perms of today's matches

      Who's playing match play golf?

I fell out of love with golf a bit when I fell in love with the Ryder cup version of golf. That whole sport needs to consider a lot more tournaments as a team game instead of singles. Both the players and the fans seem to love it.

The 64 best players in the world, divided into 16 groups of 4, winner of each group advances to last 16. Then knockouts start. Today is day 3 so the last day of the group stage. I'm not really a golf lover but this format of the game is great to watch when you've got money riding on it.

    Posted earlier this in DZ.

Okay so I'm trying to figure out whose the Liverpool assets to consider especially Sturridge is back in the picture.

    [FIRMINO]

    Interesting this, Firmino's recent run

    GW 21 : 2 goals 0 assist
    GW 22 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 23 : 2 goals 1 assist
    GW 24 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 25 : 1 goals 1 assist
    GW 26 : 0 goals 1 assist
    GW 28 : 1 goals 1 assist
    GW 29 : 1 goals 0 assist

He thrives playing in the false 9 position and performing really well as you can see except for the 2 blanks- which were tough fixtures vs MU and Leicester

Another 'blank' is GW 26 where Firmino 'only' got 1 assist. That was a 6-0 victory over Aston Villa.

That week was the only game in the league where Firmino and Sturridge starts together. And obviously Firmino dropped back from his usual false 9 position as Sturridge is the vocal point of attack.

There was 5 other occassion where they start together in cup games, Firmino just scored 1 goal during those period.

    [COUTINHO]

Now let's compare to Coutinho when Sturridge plays. It's not a lot actually - only in GW 6-8, 26, 31.
    GW 6 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 7 : 0 goals 2 assist
    GW 8 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 26 : 0 goals 3 assist
    GW 31 : 1 goals 0 assist

1 goals and 5 assist in 5 games - 2 blanks though. Yeah small sample size, but still shows that Coutinho can still perform when Sturridge around.

In that 5 cup games where Coutinho also played, he scored 2 goals.

    [STURRIDGE]

Now just for giggles let's see Sturridge. As said he doesn't play a lot - only 5 league games this season.

In those 5 games (3 of which he only plays ~60 minutes); he scored 4 goals.
A goal every 93 minutes; again small sample obviously but he scores when he plays.

And interestingly, half of those goal is assisted by Mr Coutinho (and none from Firmino).

    ________________

If fit, Liverpool will play Sturridge. The guy is a goal scoring machine and they need him.
    It's a big if, though.

And I have a feeling Sturridge will be given a chance to have a run of games towards the end of season as he did a few seasons ago.
If I'm not wrong he did really well back then and I'm putting my money he will too this season, provided his glass leg is well-protected.

Personally I wouldn't make the plunge too early (and I just can't let Kane go too right now.)
He just came back from injury so will monitor this couple of games. Might make the switch to Sturridge on either GW 34 or GW 35.

I might also consider not having either Coutinho and Firmino in my current WC and have Bolasie as a placeholder, too.

      Interesting!

Iv toyed with Studge ahead of kane. But the europa cup is making me not want him. Too much rotation.

Coutinho is in my team, i think he will score more points

All three pool picks, if fit and rotation free are good picks.

Having said that. Kane and Firmino will considerably outscore Sturridge and Bolasie between now and end of season.

Kane, yeah possibly thats why Im monitoring his form in the next 2

        Firmino will definitely outscore Bolasie.

But on for the next 2, Antonio (CPL) + Bolasie (NOR EVE) vs Firmino (TOT STO) + 4
        Who would you pick?

The former also allows me to monitor Firmino / Coutinho for the next 2 too like Kane

How about this team for GW33 wild card?

    Cech - Robles
    Koscienly - Darmian - Clichy - Rojo - Sakho
    Ozil - Payet - Firmino - Coutinho - Mahrez
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

    I'm using bench boost GW34

Not a fan of having both Coutinho & Firmino in same team. Martial not scoring enough goals from out wide to merit a place either in my opinion.

    de Gea, Elliot

    Lukaku, Sturridge/Welbeck, Martial

Is TC on Lukaku in GW 33 an option? It would require that I play the WC a week early.
Or I could play the a GW 33 WC, BB in GW 34 and TC someone in GW 37.

    Thoughts?

Thanks to KOL for the reply earlier

    assuming fitness ok

    a) Elliot, Bellerin, Reid, Milner

    b) Cech, Janmaat, Clyne, Lanzini/Sissoko

    c) Cech, Reid, Clyne,Sissoko

It's double Arsenal defence and either double Pool defence or double Pool attack. 2 of the outfielders must play in 35
