Next up this Friday evening, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

Despite failing to score in four of his last five league outings, Sergio Aguero is the top candidate in this week’s Captain Poll as Man City make their way to Bournemouth. Just over 30% are backing the Argentine to produce the goods at the Vitality Stadium, though he’s scored just four times on his travels all season.

Dimitri Payet heads the chasing pack with over 16% of the votes cast. The West Ham playmaker has produced points in four of his last five appearances and carried his domestic form onto the international stage with another stunning free-kick for France over the last few days.

Alexis Sanchez and Harry Kane hover around the 8% mark. Kane has the best form of any player in the top-flight, with five goals and an assist in four, and visits a Liverpool defence with just two clean sheets in ten. Sanchez has the better fixture – at home to Watford – and has hinted at a return to form with a goal and two assists over the last three.

Roberto Firmino – who was ranked second in the Poll earlier this week – has dropped down the pecking order as doubts remain over his availability. The Liverpool midfielder faces a late assessment as he looks to continue the form that has racked up five goals and four assists in his previous six. Although a visit from Spurs is no easy task, Firmino has produced double-figures in three of his last four at Anfield.

Mesut Ozil (6%) is lower down as Arsenal prepare for the visit of a Watford defence with two clean sheets on their travels all season, whilst Cesc Fabregas (5%) is in the mix ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Villa after he scored twice against West Ham last time out.

Elsewhere, Leicester duo Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy remain real differentials with just 2% and 1% of the votes respectively ahead of the home clash with Southampton

Are these current standings backed by the underlying statistics?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

    Team for this week then...

    Henessey
    Ivanovic, Simpson, Bellerin
    Siggy, Payet, Ozil, Mahrez
    Kane, Aguero, Vardy

    Subs: Hart, Alli, Toby, Wolly

All set up right, and ready to go?

Mahrez will deffo stay, only may do slight uturn on Kane and get Utd forward in, but then I will leave £s in the bank for Harry rerturn in GW35

2 FT only £0.6m in bank.

    Butland and Hennesey owner.

Really am not overly keen on Migs as replacement for Butland but don't have enough to do anything other than Bellerin and £5.5m keeper.

Migs not a particularly great pick this week either but Butland is dropping again tonight.

Should I just go with Henny the next 2 weeks (not wildcarding till GW36) or get Migs/other DGW keeper now?

Not planning on WC'ing till GW36.

Ideally I'd get Cech but he may not play tomorrow. Adrian appeals but no GW35, same as DDG.

Migs is the best of a rather mediocre bunch of currently fit DGW34 keepers who have a GW35 fixture.

Is Sakho really anymore nailed than Flano?
LFC face Stoke just 3 days after Europa League, which Flano is ineligible for. They also play Bournemouth just 2 days after Europa League. So surely Sakho, Lovren and Skrtel will be rotated and Flano nailed for those two games at least?

Sakho is as nailed as there is. I don't think Flanno is anywhere nailed personally. His small run of games was simply due to Moreno's injury. Yes he might get a few games, but it's a lottery.

    Re-post!

    DDG
    PVA - Wollscheid - Huth
    Arnautovic - Ozil - Payet - Mahrez
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    Elliot - Sigurdsson - VVD - Williams

    2xFTs - WC next week.

    a) get creative and go for a couple of diffentials - Welbeck?

    b) burn the transfers and stick with this team.

    Thanks.

Not the worst thing to do, especially if you think others will out score.

Ward or Delaney worthy of a SC spot? Dann just seems way too expensive...

I'm seriously considering going with Delaney for 33 and 34, just because he has so many games to do something right, and anything could happen.

Not unless he gets injured, but you won't want him then

Planning to WC GW33 or GW34, but not sure about this week's 2 transfers:
Currently on Siggy --> Payet and Butland --> 5.1m GK? Adrian? Ospina?

    Butland
    Azpilicueta - Williams - Simpson
    Ozil - Mahrez - Alli - Sigurdsson
    Kane - Aguero - Vardy

    Elliott - Alderweireld - Arnautovic - Ward [1.3m + 2FT]

    Butland, McCarthy
    Toby, Fuchs, Williams, VVD, Smith
    Silva, Mahrez, Siggy, Eriksen, Surman
    Aguero, Kane, Vardy

1 FT. £4.5m ITB. I want either Payet/Sanchez/Cesc in but should I take a hit to get rid of Butland as well? Help much appreciated. Thinking Siggy and Butland to Payet and Courtois.

    Evening chaps.

Haven't been around for the past 2 weeks so is WC'ing 34 still the way to go?

Anyway, here's my team for the weekend having done Butland > Courtois earlier in the week. How's it looking?

    Courtois
    Fuchs / Wiliams / Dier
    Alli / Siggy / Mahrez / Ozil
    Vardy / Aguero (c) / Kane

    (Hennessey, Daniels, Targett, YYT)

Would it be worth transferring out YYT to someone else for -4?

    Thanks in advance.

WC 33 to maximise the Everton/palace dgw and then bench boost gw34

I'd think about playing Daniels before Dier or Williams because the ref is PK-happy and citey don't often play well away from home

apart from that, absolutely fine, defo dont take the hit for yaya

Good team for this GW. If chasing and still have WC I'd do WC32 TC33 BB34.

Play Alli (LIV) or Sigurdsson (STK)? Leaning towards Sigurdsson vs. Stoke without Butland and Shawcross.
