Welcome to the first of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your wildcard teams and to help others with their wildcard related issues. I’ve picked the short straw to start the first discussion.

My Wildcard Team

Mignolet Robles

Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Jagielka  Ward

De Bruyne Sanchez Lingard Coutinho Payet

Mitrovic Lukaku Aguero

0.2m in the bank

Strategy

I’m currently keeping a close eye on price changes and drafting in players I’m considering as they expect to rise and ditching those set for a fall. As it stands Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs are in my squad but some if not all of them will depart.

Above is the option I’m considering the most, going all out with  15 double players in double Gameweek 34, having three Everton and one Palace player in place for double Gameweek 33 and for double Gameweek 35 I’ve nine players with two transfers to take me to 11. I’m fine taking a hit if an injury lets me down here. I also have six players in place for double Gameweek 37 with  a view to fielding 10 to 11 with a hit that Gameweek.

My bench boost will be played in double Gameweek  34 and triple captaincy in double Gameweek 37.

Key issues

Dropping Kane

Given the high price tags of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool midfielders plus Arsenal’s key defender Hector Bellerin, as well as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane looks unsustainable. Going without him scares me but to put him in I have to make sacrifices across my whole team. I may very well get him back in for Gameweek 35 though if he punishes me too much. However, if dropping Kane for double Gameweeks 33 and 34 I can be safe in the knowledge that no one will captain him. Shunning Kane also allows for De Bruyne, who looked sharp against Bournemouth and has a great home tie in Gameweek 33, certainly on paper more enticing than Kane’s match up with Van Gaal’s all out defence tactics.

Sanchez over Ozil

Alexis Sanchez looks not only to have won this battle but looks to be the best captaincy pick for double Gameweek 34. I’ve seen enough, he’s in my team.

Punting on Mitrovic

I’ve also seen enough of Newcastle to know that they only have one strategy – get the ball to Alexsandar Mitrovic’s head. With two home games I’m hoping (praying) he can outscore Kane. This is a very rare maverick decision for me and I’m getting scared already thinking of being without Harry.

Ignoring Manchester Utd Defenders

Having no Manchester United defender in particular worries me with two great home games. But none are nailed on except David De Gea and the over priced Chris Smalling. De Gea is an option, but requires surgery in Gameweek 35 when I have no goalies. Jesse Lingard looks to be my only Man Utd player.

Jagielka to fly the dullard flag

If I’m not going to get James Milner then Phil Jagielka is the next best thing for this dullard. Members may note though that in terms of goal attempts he may offer some surprises during the doubles.

Leaving Leicester alone

Of my soon to be ditched Leicester pair of Mahrez and Fuchs it is the defender that worries me the most. Offloading Fuchs’ almost now guaranteed clean sheets and bonus each game will be a wrench. He is also outscoring Mahrez on current form. If any single gameweekers stay he is in pole position.

Excellent article, cheers Jonty. The 5th mid & a Utd def are my sticking points, only because my tv/sv is shocking. Want to squeeze in DDG and swap to Mig in 35, and stretch to someone like Lanzini/Shelvey for 5th mid, but the bank manager ain't open for credit. Git.

    DDG / Robles
    Kosc / Jags / Fuchs / Sakho / VvD
    Mahrez / Ozil / Payet / Iwobi / Coutinho
    Kun / Lukaku / Vardy

My plan is Vardy to Martial next GW, then Kane and Migs in for a hit in 35. VvD my seem a bit left-field, but Southampton's fixtures are good for 33 + 35. Then I can replace him with Smalling for the 37 double and 38 at home to B'mouth.

Having looked through the fixtures pretty rigorously now and I'm pretty happy with the teams I'll be able to put out right through til the end of the season. However, I would like some other opinions. Wood for the trees and all that.

Few factors going against him. Game time could be limited (typically brought off after 60/70mins) also chance of rotation with Origi especially with Dortmund games.

But one big positive being his attempt to perform to get a spot for the Euros. This also works for Hendo.

    Ville Ronka watch:

Pre wildcard his TV was £107.9 (£105.7/£2.2), after changes it dropped to £106.8 (£106.7/£0.1) so the initial £1.1 TV lost could have been through any mix of:
Kane £0.3 loss; Mahrez £0.9 loss; Alli £0.5 loss; Vardy £0.3 loss; VVD £0.1 loss; Daniels £0.2 loss, Toby £0.2 loss.

Sunday to Monday his team value raised from £106.8 (£106.7/£0.1) to £107.0 (£106.9/£0.1) so the certainties are he must have bought in the 2 raisers Bellerin and Sanchez and ditched any players who dropped, Vardy.

Dropping Vardy came with a £0.3 loss, so pretty certain Mahrez hasn't been dropped yet as his initial team value would have dropped by more.

Planning ahead to gw35, who are you looking to get in?

I'm shipping out Dann and Bolasie, and I'm thinking Sunderland and Chelsea are the go-to teams to start loading up on players with a dgw37 and also a game in GW35.

PvA looks like the best replacement for Dann. Bolasie -> Willian? Khazri? Pato?

Yes, maybe the safest is to get two from Sunderland? They'll probably have their PL life to play for, and at home to arsenal in GW35 may be a make it or break it-type of game for both teams. Should mean goals.

Would love to follow the template but not enough TV for Sanchez and KDB.

    Thoughts on below:

    Robles / Mignolet
    Delaney / Bellerin / Gabriel / Huth / Moreno
    Lanzini / Payet / Sanchez / Lennon / Coutino
    Aguero / Martial / Lukaku

2.3 ITB (leaving some money to upgrade Delaney for GW34), WC Active

TBH I'm not convinced by Martial or Sanchez as they're both patchy.

    I could:

    A) Leave as is
    B) Sanchez -> Ozil and spend 3.5 upgrading defence (Smalling?)
    C) Force KDB in somehow and gut my defence

    Thoughts?

Sanchez hasn't had the best of seasons, but not sure about patchy. He's a beast when he's on form, and he's hit form over the last few weeks. Ozil on the other hand has gone off the boil.

I just pissed myself off so much, bought in Simpson for Evans on my active WC, Evans was bought in on it too. Didn't want a double up on Leicester defence but now I've changed my mind and it's cost me all my profit on Schmeichel to bring him back in

How do you like this plan Jonty?

With my Team value of 104,4m this is the best I've come up with.

    Robles Darlow

    Sakho Gabriel Delaney Simpson Bellerin

    Coutinho Alexis Firmino Payet Bolasie

    Lukaku Martial Aguero

Gw 34 bench boost (14 dgw + Simpson)
Gw 35 Delaney and Bolasie to Kirchoff and Alli (11 playing)
    Gw 36 save transfer
Gw 37 Aguero and Alli to Costa and some mid with dgw (10 dgw players overall) Use triple captain.
Gw 38. Still have 3 Ars players for home game against Villa

    I'm currently on:
    Migs/Robles
    Delaney/Jagielka/Sakho/Gabriel/Rojo
    Iwobi/Coutinho/Payet/Sanchez/KDB
    Aguero/Lukaku/Mitrovic

Of course I'm worried about the lack of Leicester and Spurs, but I like to gamble on maximum output in the DGW's. Rojo not that keen on, but I really want united defensive cover for 34. Iwobi might be a gamble, but he looks on fire and the only way I can afford double Arsenal attack.

    Choose one WC option:

    A) Robles / Mignolet
    Darmian / Bellerin / Gabriel / Sakho / Simpson
    KdB / Coutinho / Sanchez / Lanzini / Payet
    Mitrovic / Aguero / Lukaku
    ITB: 0.4

    B) Robles / Darlow
    Darmian / Bellerin / Sakho / Dawson / Simpson
    Firmino / Coutinho / Sanchez / Iwobi / Payet
    Martial / Aguero / Lukaku
    ITB: 1.6

I have no wildcard left 🙁 but do have bench boost available for GW 34

So some planning for the last few weeks has left me with the following for GW 33 which has 2 DGW's
    Starting XI*
    DDG* / Elliot
    Bellerin* / Fuchs* / Dier* / Cathcart / Olsson
    Ozil* / Yaya* / Mahrez* / Alli / Bolasie*
    Aguero* / Lukaku* / Kane*

GW 34 with Bench Boost - Elliot to Darlow and Dier to Clyne gives me potentially 11 DGW's

    DDG / Darlow*
    Bellerin / Fuchs / Clyne* / Cathcart / Olsson
    Ozil / Yaya / Mahrez / Alli / Bolasie
    Aguero / Lukaku / Kane*

What do people think, is it worth going Martial for Kane in GW 34 or swapping Bolasie for an Iwobi or Lingard type player?
Would need to take a hit but could be worth it.

    Cheers.

    Would give me 11 GW35 with 2FTs.

Everyone would have given up by then after a low scoring DGW34 😉

Yeah have every week left of the season. Sometimes just a team and position, not a specific player

The lack of Barkley is scary on here,
Huge ownership and a troll I know,
But I've a feeling over those 4 games something will give, 4.7ppg ain't bad either.

I agree - I'd like to own him, but Lennon is cheaper and has scored more points recently. If money was no object, I'd go for Barkley.

Who will perform better over he next few weeks
    A) Lingard (has Villa GW 34)
    B) Lennon (more games, but could compensate with extra EVE defender)

I'm going with Lennon at the moment, games against Watford and Crystal Palace in GW33 look good to me.

Needs some advice with the below WC team:

    Migs Robles

    Smalling Bellerin Sakho Gabriel Ward

    Sanchez Payet Coutinho Mahrez Lanzini

    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    0.0itb

    1) I would have to take a hit to get 11 in GW35. Who could I change so that I don't have to?

    2) I would have Max 8 DGW's fro GW37 with this team without taking hits. How can I improve the numbers?

    3) Mahrez worth keeping? If not who to get for 6.5m and below?

      Lanzini to Iwobi

Triple liverpool plus 4 players who blank, save a free and you get 4 transfers = 11

No, not many choices though unless you can find funds.

I was thinking that, however how guarenteed is he to start all the games?

I already have triple liverpool? Or do I need to have 3 outfield?

        Find funds for who?

I'd say good enough at the moment with injuries to others.

Yes as the bench GK is one of the 11 DGW players the three Liverpool should be outfield for this.

I think there are a decent amount of choices at 8.1m.

Thoughts on this team? Clichy and Lennon are probably rotation risks, so I'm not sure about those two in particular. Sanchez is much more popular than Ozil, but I'm struggling to fit him in.

    de Gea, Mignolet
    Bellerin, Clichy, Dawson, Jagielka, Delaney
    Ozil, Payet, Coutinho, Bolasie, Lennon
    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial
