Welcome to the first of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your wildcard teams and to help others with their wildcard related issues. I’ve picked the short straw to start the first discussion.

My Wildcard Team

Mignolet Robles

Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Jagielka  Ward

De Bruyne Sanchez Lingard Coutinho Payet

Mitrovic Lukaku Aguero

0.2m in the bank

Strategy

I’m currently keeping a close eye on price changes and drafting in players I’m considering as they expect to rise and ditching those set for a fall. As it stands Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs are in my squad but some if not all of them will depart.

Above is the option I’m considering the most, going all out with  15 double players in double Gameweek 34, having three Everton and one Palace player in place for double Gameweek 33 and for double Gameweek 35 I’ve nine players with two transfers to take me to 11. I’m fine taking a hit if an injury lets me down here. I also have six players in place for double Gameweek 37 with  a view to fielding 10 to 11 with a hit that Gameweek.

My bench boost will be played in double Gameweek  34 and triple captaincy in double Gameweek 37.

Key issues

Dropping Kane

Given the high price tags of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool midfielders plus Arsenal’s key defender Hector Bellerin, as well as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane looks unsustainable. Going without him scares me but to put him in I have to make sacrifices across my whole team. I may very well get him back in for Gameweek 35 though if he punishes me too much. However, if dropping Kane for double Gameweeks 33 and 34 I can be safe in the knowledge that no one will captain him. Shunning Kane also allows for De Bruyne, who looked sharp against Bournemouth and has a great home tie in Gameweek 33, certainly on paper more enticing than Kane’s match up with Van Gaal’s all out defence tactics.

Sanchez over Ozil

Alexis Sanchez looks not only to have won this battle but looks to be the best captaincy pick for double Gameweek 34. I’ve seen enough, he’s in my team.

Punting on Mitrovic

I’ve also seen enough of Newcastle to know that they only have one strategy – get the ball to Alexsandar Mitrovic’s head. With two home games I’m hoping (praying) he can outscore Kane. This is a very rare maverick decision for me and I’m getting scared already thinking of being without Harry.

Ignoring Manchester Utd Defenders

Having no Manchester United defender in particular worries me with two great home games. But none are nailed on except David De Gea and the over priced Chris Smalling. De Gea is an option, but requires surgery in Gameweek 35 when I have no goalies. Jesse Lingard looks to be my only Man Utd player.

Jagielka to fly the dullard flag

If I’m not going to get James Milner then Phil Jagielka is the next best thing for this dullard. Members may note though that in terms of goal attempts he may offer some surprises during the doubles.

Leaving Leicester alone

Of my soon to be ditched Leicester pair of Mahrez and Fuchs it is the defender that worries me the most. Offloading Fuchs’ almost now guaranteed clean sheets and bonus each game will be a wrench. He is also outscoring Mahrez on current form. If any single gameweekers stay he is in pole position.

Having a mare trying to negoiate the run in.
80pts clear in my ML, problem is my opponent has 2 wild cards, BB, AOA and TC still to play, me I only have TC to play.

Don't mind taking some hits but what?

    Team Cech Schmichael
    Toby, Azil, Clyne,Smith, & Targett
    Silva, Ozil, Mahrez, Alli, Siggy
    Kane, Lukaku, Aguero

    Who to change?
    Thanks for any pointers

I wouldn't panic. Just think you need to ensure you have 2 excellent dbgw teams for both gw34 & 37 and plan the weeks around it.

For gw34 ddg in goal, Bellerin/Gabriel in defence, Sanchez, Coutinho in mid, Martial up front

Thank you, yes I was thinking Gabriel, Sanchez, Coutinho. I was a bit wary of ddg as he misses gw 35 but I think I see your logic now as he has dgw 37

Thing to keep in mind is that 2nd place in your ML has a lot more to think about than you! Remember you cant WC and use chips in the same GW. Figuring out how best to use his 2 WC's and 3 chips in 6 GWs is probably going to make his head explode!

"Tony Marshal" is a good shout for 34, but I'll be getting Hurricane back in pretty sharpish.

Mignolet in for DDG for 35, ((Newcastle (H)). Swans (A) 36, then DGW 37 Watford and Chelski U21's at home...??

Then GW 38 is a total lottery. Most won't be fighting for anything and "already on their holidays"!

Your rival has 1 WC. AOA is harmless. It's basically WC+BB vs 80pts.

Take a few hits. TC Sanchezin GW34. And hope for the best.

    How's this lot?

    Robles - Mignolet
    Moreno - Delaney - Fuchs - Cresswell - Bellerin
    Coutinho - Payet - Mahrez - Bolasie - Sanchez
    Kun - Martial - Lukaku

Blankers are Martial, Cresswell, Payet, Robles, Lukaku, Delaney, Bolasie. Robles is taken care of by Mignolet. That leaves six, so a hit will be needed there somewhere. I'm OK with either that or another suggestion. Cheers!

I like it - only two Everton, but could work. Not sure about double Liverpool defence. Moreno slight rotation risk? Not really sure, Sakho seems to be the most popular option on here.

Good team although I'd reconsider Delaney and Moreno. Don't fancy many Palace clean sheets, if choosing anyone from their backline I'd go Hennessey because at least you're likely to get points from saves. I can't see Moreno playing both games, suspect Flanagan will play one.

Whyyyy would you plan to take a hit for such mediocre players/doubles? Delaney and Bolasie could easily be outscored by SGW players, so they're already a risk but at a -4 each they're almost guaranteed to be outscored by any decent pick.

Thoughts on this team? I'm worried about selling Mahrez, who I've owned from the beginning of the season, but both Bolasie and Barkley have four fixtures in GW34 and 34 compared to two for Mahrez.

    de Gea, Darlow
    Bellerin, Jagielka, Sakho, Delaney, Simpson
    Ozil, Payet, Coutinho, Barkley, Bolasie/Mahrez
    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial

Barkley's been pushed back deeper in MID last few games and bean fairly anonymous. I fancied him too but ill probably be going for Aaron the Lemon.

It's so hard completely carving up your team now tho. Lots of unexpected and ever present hero's to dump out. Ali's, Daniels', Ozil's, Vardy's, Mahrezzerezes'...

That's because Barry has been suspended and also because Martinez is tactically poor. Think now Barry is back he'll move back up the pitch.

    Mignolet Robles
    Smalling Bellerin Sakho Janmaat Gabriel
    Sanchez Payet Coutinho Bolasie Lennon
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    0.1 in the bank

All the potential heavy hitters for GW33 and 34 are in place, and the rest of the players seems reasonable nailed in their teams.

Will save transfer going in to GW34 and make three of them to remove Martial/Smalling and one of Bolasie/ Lennon, most likely Bolasie, before GW35.
This will give 11 players for GW35 and by picking smart it will give 11 DGW37 players without any further hits.

Any feedback are very welcomed. Thanks.

Palace defense for Janmaat will mean one extra hit GW35. But could payoff!

        Its down to:
Mignolet, Janmaat, Lennon -> 15,4 mill. ( Maybe Darlow, Otamendi, Lanzini?)

I don't think Milner is that bad a shout at 6.5m. He takes all the set pieces and scores points quite steadily so as a less expensive midfielder he's a decent option.

    The Double LEI Defence Template

    Robles/Mignolet

    Bellerin/Smalling/Gabriel/Simpson/Fuchs

    Lennon/Sanchez/Coutinho//Mahrez/Payet

    Aguero/Lukaku/Kane

It's either Simpson or Delaney/Sakho - Simpson could outscore these DGW players even with 2 CS

GW35 Smalling to Azpil gives me 11 players

GW36 Aguero & Mahrez to Firmino and Costa

GW37 Def to Ivanovic or use FT elsewhere

I'm all set. Slight doubts over Rojo and Ozil?

    Robles Darlow
    Bellerin Sakho Rojo Dann Simpson
    Sanchez Ozil Bolassie Lingard Mahrez
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    GW33 4 doublers
    GW34 13 doublers BB played
    GW35 8 starters Dann+Bolassie > PvA+? = 10 starters hit-free

Will get Payet in GW37 for TC, not sure if I should just do it now? Really fancy triple Arsenal for the DGW though and my TV is too low to get Payet as third mid.

Trailing top spot in my mini league by around 70 points. Activated WC. This is my first draft. Something inside me still cant get myself to sell Kane. I'd rather sell aguero over him cause then it gives me a ton of money to invest elsewhere. But that is dangerous as well. Also, with Mahrez I am not sure. Leicester are creating chances but not scoring more than 1. If I do need to remove mahrez, then for whom? Defence? How to get some man utd cover? Thoughts please lads!!!
    My Draft as of now:
    GK: Mignolet, Robles
Def: Gabriel, Bellerin, Dawson, Simpson, Ward
Mid: Payet, Sanchez, Mahrez, Lennon, Coutinho
    Fwd: Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

Personally I think martial against a tired villa defence way to go instead of Kane. And then palace. Even a dull Man U should be able to get 3-4 against villa. Also a Man U defender or dog is another option. Mahrez in a Leicester team happy to win 1/0 so a punt might be bolasie over him for 2 dbgws

    Currently on:

    Bellerin, Clyne, Rojo, Sakho, Gabriel
    Sanchez, Payet, Coutinho, Mahrez, Lanzini

      Hennesey Mignolet
      Soare Jags Moreno Bellerin Mangala
      Bolasie Barkley Firmino DDB Sanchez
      Lukaku Welbeck Iheanachu

Injuries permitting it gives me max (6) Palace & Everton DGW 33 & (15) DGW 34 - Bench boost then using
2 x FT's to make an 11 for Blanks in GW35 and 2 more FT's (WHU) for 9 players in DGW 37 so a hit of 2 to make up an 11 (probably SUN) WDYT maestro?

I like it. Leaves you 10 players also for week 35 if I've remembered fixtures right so you'd be in a good position.

If I was changing anything there I'd swap Mangala for Otamendi to save 1.2m and I'd maybe use that to upgrade either Sakho or Bolasie. I can't see Bolasie scoring that many points, even over two double weeks. I think Sakho risks rotation with Skrtel returning. Whilst I think that he is first choice central defender, I have a feeling that one of the games Skrtel and Lovren will play and Sakho will start both games v Dortmund. I'm still considering Sakho myself but just got this doubt about whether he'll play all the games.

    Oh dear guys....
Have been travelling a lot recently so have already lost value on a few players already which is leaving me massively short in my draft teams.

I like the look of this team, given my low budget...

    Mig/Robles
    Belerin/Gabriel/Simpson/Sakho/???(3.9m)
    Cout/Payet/Sanchez/Lennon/Bolasie
    Aguero/Lukaku/Martial

However, there doesn't seem to be a defender I can get in for 3.9.
I don;t want to downgrade Cout, Payet, Kun, etc. Can anyone advise on where I can make up this cash??

There is always Targett at 3.9. Or go for Darlow instead of Mignolet.
The other obvious move if you are short on cash is to go without Aguero. Risky, but could pay off if the money is spread around well.

Good suggestion, that I haven't considered.... but I mainly didn't consider it as I always want players that are very certainly nailed on..... It sucks so much to get a player for a DGW and then he only plays once

With Phil Jones back for U-21, Isn't that a better replacement for Rojo in your FPL team? I think hes going to be a permanent member of the team.

Well i am fiddling with this at the moment! Work in progress obviously.

    Mignolet / Robles
    Smalling / Bellerin / Gabriel / Delaney / Simpson
    Sanchez / KDB (BIG MAYBE ) / Cout / Payet / SHELVEY!!!!!
    Kun / Lukaku / Martial

0.4 itb... The reason it has to be shelvey is a game in 35 and dgw... Dont want Lanzini since it will give me 6 non players in 35. This way i have 5 and will use 2 FTS to replace Martial and Smalling.

0.4 ITB helps to get Kane and a Sunderland DF if you really want Kane.

Those two will go after dgw 34 i believe. I have actually conjured another WC draft that is without LIV defender 😀

        Robles / Darlow
        Smalling / Bellerin / Gabriel / Delaney / Simpson
        Sanchez / KDB / Mahrez / Payet / Cout
        Kun / Lukaku / Martial

        0.3itb as well 😀

Better. I think I'm using you Maharz spot for Bolasie in 33, Lanzini in 34, then benching Lanzini in 35 in a 433

Well i want to save a FT in gw 34 to ship Smalling and Martial out. If i get Bolasie i would have 6 players missing gw 35 and i cant have that 😀

Picking Bolasie will give a hit, but as he is a mid with two games, it's a true -2 due to attendance points

Look at GW 30. Having 11 guys was crucial.
It feels like most of my "advise" is just trying to drag people closer to my WC.
32'ers sure get some use out of their extra FT. But they are more stuck with Ozil, while we draft KDB and Gabriel

    Ddg, mignolet
    Bellerin, Fuchs, cresswell, dier, Monreal,
    Lanzini, Mahrez, ozil, coutinho, Ali,
    Luk, Sturridge, Kane,

Cannot see any benefit in extra eve or cyp defenders

    Morning all, how's it looking?

    Robles/Darlow
    Smalling/Bellerin/Gabriel/Sakho/Simpson
    Sanchez/KDB/Payet/Coutinho/Lingard
    Aguero/Lukaku/Martial

    0.4ITB.

I'm not happy with Lingard, would much prefer Lanzini, but struggling to find 0.2 anywhere. Robles and Darlow doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, but allows for major upgrades elsewhere.

Not much to add from I've already said

We don't know what we'll get for R+D combo but it's 8.2. We shouldn't complain. You probably will get more by having Cech over Darlow but then you gotta find 2m

The big problem is the players double rising are likely to be in your final team unless, like me you were lucky enough to own Schmeichel.

Robles/Darlow enables so, so much. Looks great with your funds.
Robles to Hennsessey is +0.1, Sakho to Moreno is +0.1, but I really don't recommend either.

    R/D
    Belle/Gabriel/Simpson/Sakho/COLEMAN
    Payet/Sanchez/KDB/Coutino/BOLASIE
    Kun/Luks/Martial

    GW34: Coleman/Bolasie to Lanzini/Smalling -4
    GW35: Martial/Smalling to Kirchhoff/Sturrigde -4

Reason1 being Coleman (wat cpl) -4 being better than Bellerin (whu).
Reason2 being Sturrige (NEW) -4 being better than Martial (blank).

As an eternally pessimistic/realistic Everton fan, I would never take a hit to play one of our defenders other than Baines in his heyday, DGW or not. I see your reasoning, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a Bellerin CS and 2 Coleman blanks. I do see the appeal though, and it may pay to be bold.

    Ok this is me

    Robles, Darlow
    Bellerin, Gabriel, Smalling, Sakho, Kirchoff
    Coutinho, Firmino, Payet, Lanzini, Sanchez
    Kun, Lukaku, Martial

Kirchoff will be my sole SGWer but since he has a game in 35 and a DGW in 37 it saves me a FT later on, which leaves me a floating FT to use either in 35 to get a striker for Martial or in 38 if I go with Defoe in 35
