We call upon a couple of overlooked double Gameweek 33 options as the Wildcard fine tuning continues. Southampton’s midfield supplies us with the final selection as Ronald Koeman’s men welcome Newcastle’s generous defence to St Mary’s.

Aaron Lennon

By virtue of Everton’s successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat & cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU, liv), most managers have gravitated towards Ross Barkley in their search for an attacking accompaniment to Romelu Lukaku – indeed, they occupy the top two spots with regards to “transfers in” this week. Despite offering greater form than Barkley (four goals and one assist in seven compared to two goals in 16) and boasting a far cheaper price tag (5.6 to 7.1), Aaron Lennon has garnered just under 2% ownership ahead of this morning’s deadline.

Whilst Lennon doesn’t lay claim to exceptional statistics of late, he mustered two more shots on target (four) than any of Everton’s midfield regulars across his previous six matches. Moreover, he ranked top for penalty-box touches (27) and key passes (10) during that stretch. A small pool of data (11 attempts) skews the data, but it’s also worth noting that Lennon charts top among all midfielders for goal conversion (45.5%) this term.

Although the Merseysiders have failed to score in the last two, it’s worth bearing in mind that faced up against Arsenal and United in those encounters, and the prospect of consecutive road clashes bodes well for an attack that possesses the third-best shot-conversion rate (13.5%) in away fixtures. Lennon’s attacking potential is bolstered further by the revelation that Crystal Palace and Watford recorded two clean sheets between them in their last 12 outings, underlining the obliging nature of their defences.

Dwight Gayle

Considering that Connor Wickham has just been discharged from the treatment room and Emmanuel Adebayor remains doubtful for the weekend, Dwight Gayle (5.1) could be considered the favourite to spearhead the Eagles’ attack for a pair of vital home clashes with Norwich and Everton that may well decide their safety. The Palace marksman scored as a second-half substitute against West Ham United, alerting us to his potential as a budget enabler for wildcarders.

Palace’s recent attacking output suggests there’s scope for one of their forwards to flourish if they can discover some rhythm; although the Eagles faced off against Liverpool, West Ham and Leicester City in their previous quartet of ties, they ranked fifth for shots inside the box (38) and joint-seventh for big chances (six).

Looking at Palace’s pair of opponents, the Canaries have managed a solitary shut-out on the road this season, whilst the Toffees have kept just two shut-outs in nine. There’s no doubt Gayle is a gamble but if he earns enough minutes, the striker could well vindicate Alan Pardew’s backing and fire his side to safety.

Sadio Mane

With many Fantasy enthusiasts blindsided by the inescapable allure of a bumper double Gameweek, in-form single-Gameweek players like Sadio Mane (7.3) could prove to be valuable acquisitions. The Senegalese winger reclaimed his starting berth with a brace against Liverpool in Gameweek 31, before spurning a golden opportunity to open the scoring at the King Power Stadium. Nonetheless, Mane appears invigorated ahead of Southampton’s tantalising home tie against Newcastle United.

Poring over the stats, Mane – despite clocking just 45 minutes against the Reds – places second for shots inside the box (five) and joint-third for shots on target (three) among midfielders in the last two Gameweeks. Throughout the course of the campaign, only Alexis Sanchez has amassed more shots inside the box (60 compared to 56), illuminating Mane’s capacity for explosive returns.

Newcastle’s defensive ineptitude serves as a compelling reason why investing in a Saints attack that charts second for shot-conversion rate (12.2%) in home matches could pay dividends. On that note, the Magpies conceded the second-most goals (14) in their last six outings and have shipped the second-most goals (36) in away clashes. In addition, only Sunderland have recorded fewer clean sheets (four) than the Tynesiders (five) this season.

    Deciding between Lennon and Barkley....
Is Barry being back that much of a difference to them? How long has Barks been playing deep?

if I get Robles now, it'll mean a 4 point hit to get DDG in next week. Worth it?

Hi guys just found out Silva is injured...

So, Silva -> Payet/Barkley/Coutinho/X for -4 or just stick with him and play Iwobi this week and hope Silva is back for DGW?
Current midfield Alexis, Mahrez, Firmino, Iwobi, Silva...

I had the same issue, swapped for Barkley. I couldn't resist the double GW. I'm hoping it's a blessing in disguise. Courtinho was the other player I considered but will bring him in next week.

    Sorry, repost

Would appreciate any thoughts on the following. Currently have

    DDG
    Bellerin Gabriel delaney sakho Simpson
    Sanchez kdb Payet
    Lukaku aguero martial

    For the last three spots what is better;

    A Mignolet lanzini milner
    B Darlow lingard coutinho

Lanz is on a scoring streak but has weaker fixtures

    Bench one:
    A)Payet (ARS)
    B)Mahrez (sun)
    C)Sanchez (whu)
    D)Coutinho (STK)
    E)Ritchie (avl)
    F)Aguero (WBA)
    G)Kane (MUN)
    H)Lukaku (wat, cry)

I really want to play Ritchie vs. AVL but who to drop? I'm leaning Kane or Payet but both are in cracking form! Talk me into/out of it!

I would ONLY play Payet in GW 34 (bench 33, sell 35) so:

    A) Payet+Moreno+Rojo (2 risk rotations but each will play at least one in 34)
    B) Lanzini+Smalling+Monreal (all nailed)

Mitro has the better stats, is cheaper and has a 35 fixture. But that MUN double is so good.

        Best of these 2 plans?

        A) Simpson & Martial
        B) Clichy & Mitrovic

        GW34: Dann & Bolasie -> Smalling & Antonio

        ROBLES
        DANN, Sakho, xxx
        Sanchez, Kdb, Coutinho, BOLASIE, LENNON
        Aguero, LUKAKU

As a Newcastle fan, I can't recommend any toon players. But he's the best hope. It's whether the rest of the team finally realises they need to stick the ball on his head for 90 mins

Mitrovic 4 games 33-35, fighting for survival, main goal threat.

Martial 2 plum games, blank 35 and 1 tough game, Utd rarely score 2 goals or more, Rashford playing up top with Rooney to come back.

      Plus Martial more expensive.

£0.1m off this team which I really, really want. Damn, I missed the KDB price rise.

    Robles, Darlow,
    Smalling, Sakho, Delaney, Gabriel, Simpson,
Sanchez, de Bruyne, Payet, Coutinho, Iwobi,
    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial.

Small rotation risk? With Valencia and Young back and all the Fosu-Mensah-s and the Borthwick Jackson-s around, I think the United defence is a mess - other than Smalling.

Next week I can do Bolasie-->Lingard and then bring Smalling for hit....Else I can monitor Rojo and bring him for free for Jags....good that way??

Sounds good plan to monitor Rojo and if it looks he'll start get him for Jags. Wouldn't do Bolasie -> Lindgard for a hit

Thanks S Kqui...Also thought that if Manutd wins vs Wham in FA cup, Martial may well get a rest in a game...So that can also help me decide GW 34 one

Fe-ck this saturday work (1st time in years) I will rather tinker my wildcard draft which is more important.

Please Aqua don't kill me for asking this one more time. Really unsure about KDB.

    Which one is better?

    A) KDB & Simpson
    B) Coutinho & Otamendi

    Belle-Smalling-Sakho-Gabriel-???
    Payet-Sanchez-???-Lanzini - Bolasie (Firmino in gw35)

I would need -8 hit in gw35 if I get Delaney. So not an option for me.

I would keep Simpson to save a trade for who knows as I doubt you'll want him past this GW.
Get a Utd def... Could you afford Ward > Rojo next GW?

Same as 2 extra games provided Palace doesn't concede more than a single goal in those games. Good chance they do though!

Lennon is no go for me as going Coutinho allows far more flexibility in GW 35....Still I had keep SImpson as he has GW 35 fixture and CPl are poor

      A. In light of their defensive record, I would keep Simpson. I do have Dann though as my soul CPL player. The RMT suggests he is the player most likely to score the most points this week for CPL.

      B. Two LIV defenders is not worth the risk. Besides, you may end up needing Firmino AND Coutinho.
Lennon and Bolasie don't appeal to me. Lennon is a rot threat and Bolasie has no form.

      Have a great week! 🙂

        A. I know but it does help. Thanks on the Dann shout, but £s don't permit.

        B. Helps a lot the x2 LFC def. I will be getting Coutino in next week for Bolasie.

        You too 🙂

I think so, never left my draft.

You can also bench then in 35 and keep for the run in and DGW37

probably keep simpson just on ward's gw34 fixtures (as you won't be removing him)

nice team - pretty much set on that front 8, it's really come down to martial / no utd defence or mitro / smalling
