Fat burner is such as loose term. It can be anything from the caffeine in your coffee to anabolic steroids. If he's being investigated for a fat burner it is almost certainly a performance enhancing drug. Whether his B sample nails him or not is another question.

I feel like footballers would have more trouble gaining weight than losing it from all the training and matches.

          • 12 Years
          9 years, 11 months ago

Yep, fat burners essentially accelerate the metabolism so as well as breaking down more fat they can also be muscle building, improving recovery time, strength and speed.

When its all about to hit the fan, its in the player's/club's interest to play it down as diet pills rather than admitting they're PEDs and used expressly as PEDs.

Me too. Out of interest where are you overall Balders?IMO today's footie was about as uninspiring as it comes. I fancy Leicester Swansea 0-0 tomorrow ( no money down of course ). Your thoughts ?

                      9 years, 11 months ago

I'm just inside 7k currently. Yeah today's footie had goals but it was such holiday football, the cup semi was quite lively though. Low scoring for me tomorrow, under 2.5, probably 1-0 to somebody. Wouldn't rule out Swansea nicking it with Vardy out.

      Sakho should have checked.

the drug itself being banned is a decent question. but the fact is, it is. and sakho was taking it anyway, even when kolo toure done for similar. so he was knowingly cheating imo. i really think this is rampant in all sport. and england tests way way more than most other countries. spanish footballers don't get blood tested ever.

      1. Studgie G
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 11 months ago

it seems more and more an error and could be costly, the problem is the players need to be told what they can and can't do. the needs to be an outright ban on all supplements but that wont happen because the clubs supply them to the players aswell so its hard to track what players a putting inside themselves whether to gain an advantage or just a honest mistake.

Sakho will probably have to learn the hard way but the clubs don't do enough to help the players not all of them understand these things

i think you are being naive in the extreme. why are you giving these guys benefit of doubt? it's not that complex at all. there is a big list of stuff NOT TO TAKE. and these guys have the best doctors money can pay for. if they are caught, which is needle is haystack stuff really, then it means 100% they are CHEATING

          1. Studgie G
            • 14 Years
            9 years, 11 months ago

because everyone deserves the benefit of doubt, I know there's a list.

The bigger problem is how the clubs manage these situation or preventing them etc teaching the players how to go about their business

This isn't like lets say straight up cheating like that zagreb player nor is it similar to sharapova's or the AFL jabbing.

It's minor if anything compared to those, if he can't prove it was a mistake, then he should get banded whether he deserves it or not, he'll learn the hard way only for another to do it again in 6 months time.

The clubs need to be the forefront on this problem and the fa testing is alot more stricter but football in general is lackadaisical compared to other sports in this area

            1. the axolotl
              • 14 Years
              9 years, 11 months ago

no, you are being naive still.

these guys are playing for the worlds top sports teams, with an army of sports doctors and nutritionists. everything that goes into them is monitored. if sakho has taken a banned substance, he has either a- taken it on the sly (so he's cheating but not telling anyone), or b- it's club sanctioned which is much worse

                9 years, 11 months ago

                Agree to Disagree

                It's a tricky subject

Players that take no supplements will always be safe the rest theirs a risk to it.

If I was a player I'll be the first option but so many others would choose the 2nd option.

I think your also looking at it too much in one way everything isn't straight foward

                1. the axolotl
                  • 14 Years
                  9 years, 11 months ago

                  still don't agree 🙂

and ok there's "supplements" and "drugs". BUT, IT IS the player's responsibility. and they have doctors. even if player doesn't know, the doctor does. so there is only 2 possible scenarios here, either the player is cheating independently (unwittingly or not), or a team doctor is drugging him.

              • 12 Years
              9 years, 11 months ago

actually this could yet play out very similar to both the Zagreb player and Sharapova. To quote Arijan Ademi "I’m not guilty, I know I did not do any wrong, and I got such a drastic punishment. I feel terrible." but yet he failed his B sample and got 4 years because he had in fact consumed a PED. Sharapova's wasn't as bad in a sense because she had taken it for 10 seasons legally before it was added to the list of banned substances, but then she got caught weeks into the new year. But she still consumed a banned PED.

There is a list that is updated and sent to every player and team registered to the FA every season and it is 100% their job to read the list and know what is on it and what they cannot take.

If Watford can pick up some momentum over the next few weeks, I don't see it an easy game for UTD, Watford can defend and both Deeney & Ighalo can be a handful. Everton created quite a few openings against UTD.

Everton have been dire too of late but you wouldn't have known it second half today.. form goes out the window for cup games and especially finals.. whoever gets through will give it their all and i will be taking nothing for granted as a United fan.

I know the fans hate van Gaal but to nearly finish 4th and with a huge chance of winning the FA Cup, he's done not that terribly with that squad. Obviously Martial and De Gea have bailed him out but he's not THAT bad. Pretty entertaining guy too.

He's not entertaining at all he has the personality of concrete. He bought a good lot of that squad and wasted heaps of cash on over the hill players. The younger players who he would not have played if there had been fewer injuries have bailed him out. Seriously get rid IMO.

wanna know what screws him? He spends LOADS of money on players, which in return raises the fans and owners expectations. Why do think Wenger is so reluctant to spend money? He doesn't want people to actually expect him to win.

      1. The Raging Bull

When your CEO publicly announces the club has 'loads' of money for player recruitment, you're inviting trouble. Woodward needs to take a large share of the blame, he pretty much railroaded LVG into buying Depay midway through the season as they heard PSG were keen on him and offering him a lucrative package. LVG wanted to wait until the Summer to see what other players are available.

That's complete nonsense IMO re the Wenger comment. That is just his judgement call which may be right or wrong but to accuse a manager of not expecting the public not wanting him to win is totally ridiculous.

Wenger wants to maintain a healthy team chemistry. Buying new players all the time will prevent current players from feeling secure. Wenger wants to nurture potential into world-class talent. He was a bit handcuffed before with the club paying off the stadium; however, that's not an excuse anymore. He's living in the past. While ManCity have been spending big on the likes of Kun, Silva, KDB, Otamendi, Mangala, Bony, Sterling, Fernandinho; Wenger is being thrifty with Elnehny, Gabriel, Monreal. Yeah, it's probably not because of "expectations," but to put it solely on judgement is a bit naive. Even Sir Alex wasn't scared to spend big.

            • 10 Years

Wengers only issue IMO is a lack of good judgement when buying players to compete to win the PL. Fergie spent big when his judgement warranted it. Wengers judgement is not so good.

Granted there are one or two positives of Louis, but the negatives far outweigh the positives unfortunately. I could go on all night on this matter but won't.

Poor squad management and seemingly trying to win games by not having a shot for most of the season should be his downfall.

Admittedly he's improved on a few things as the season's progressed though.

42 goals in 34 PL games - hardly anything to be proud of and certainly not in the spirit of the way ManU fans want their team to play. Except for Stoke only teams in the bottom half of the table have scored fewer goals

If you are suggesting Carroll or Rashford, I would take neither. Form is ephemeral and Carroll just isn't good enough unless you commit to building around him which means you need Albrighton and Milner wide to pump balls in as Sterling and W̶a̶l̶c̶o̶t̶t̶,̶ ̶W̶e̶l̶b̶e̶c̶k̶, Lallana aren't going to be the ones to do that. And Rashford's had a nice start to the life at Man U but you can't take him on a month's football. Take 5 in Rooney, Kane, Vardy, Sturridge and Welbeck.

Taking Rashford to the Euros is not the worst call. England took Owen to the WC in 1998, when he was 18, i believe. Brazil took Ronaldo to the WC in 94 and he didn't play a game and England took Rooney to Euro 2004 where he did well.

Of course, they are different type of players. I don't subscribe to the notion that a player is too young to play at a major tournament, if they have the talent and temperament, they should be selected. Divock Origi played at the last world cup for Belgium age 19 and did well.

You're saying that now based on his recent form. Let's face it, who was signing his praises between Aug-Feb of this season? Origi was raw back in 2014, however what he proved was he has the mental strength to perform on the big stage. Owen had it, Ronaldo and many others had it. Let's see if Rashford has it.
Players like Rooney shouldn't be going, they've had their time and failed miserably.

                  • 12 Years
                  9 years, 11 months ago

Michael Owen had started 34 out of 38 Premier League games in the 97/98 season and made an extra two sub appearances alongside UEFA Cup games and domestic cup competitions. He scored 18 goals and lead Liverpool to 4th as their main striker. He also played in 5 friendlies for England ahead of the World Cup

Divock Origi had 45 senior club appearances over a year and a half ahead of the 2014 World Cup, he also played for Belgium 3 times before the World Cup.

Rashford has had 14 senior appearances over two months and not played a single senior game for England. By all means give him a dry run in the friendlies in May, but barring injuries I've not had enough convincing that he should go ahead of anybody I named above.

    def:
.smalling best pick but ddg will be in goal
.cresswell is a good pick too but they always concide and will take a spot
.pva good attacking potential but still cant keep clean sheet
.moreno most probably will play a game from the 2.

DDG,Gomes, Cresswell, Moreno and PVA are in, then a Norwich defender probably ( not sure who) and for the final spot I am thinking of either going safe with Smalling or taking a punt for attacking returns (Coleman, Baines, Ivanovic)

    5 left to play...

    Currently ranked 659 🙂

If I maintain this and get my TC right the sky is the limit!

What's your team gonna look like for the dgw in gw37?

Not great tbh. Liverpool and Everton were my crutches for 34. A lot will be in a similar position

Not playing a chip in 37 but still have WC in hand. Should I play it before GW36 or GW37?

        GW32

If WC is your only chip, either works. 37 might be better if you are ok for 36.

Play it very soon or it's not worth having it at all

Does Iwobi to Townsend for GW36 make sense?

Wait and see if Iwobi plays tomorrow. How about Antonio instead of Townsend?

Townsend plays against Palace (H) and Villa (A) in the next 2 games. Although an extra W Ham player is a good idea for GW37.

Price rises are irrelevant at this stage of the season

For sure, but on WC a .1 may come handy sometimes

When do we think we will find out more about Sakho?

        Hard to say.

Funnily enough, he CAN play, just the club have taken the decision to stop him until investigation is over.

As an fpl manager, I see it as rest. Until we know the situation. He could become nailed for the DGW...

I went with Defoe over Long and in hindsight that wasn't the right call, 15 from 4 so far, thankfully KDB didn't feature so Gabriel or Iwobi to come on in off the bench which could result in points if one of them plays at this rate, could well be Iwobi. So plenty of goals tomorrow may be ideal for me.
