There’s emotion in the air as we prepare to bid goodbye to another season in tonight’s ScoutCast.

I’m joined by Jonty, Andy and Luke as we take the opportunity to look back on our campaigns, dwelling on our successes and regrets and recalling our favourite moments from a most testing Fantasy Football season.

We also take time to identify out lessons learned and appraise the Fantasy Premier League season, carrying out a “Chips Post Mortem”, whilst discussing the likely impact of next season’s Friday night kick-offs.

Finally, for one last time this term, we look forward to the weekend and attempt to identify the final day heroes who could yet make an impression on ranks and mini-leagues.

The ScoutCast is first aired live on our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get a heads up on future broadcasts.

You can view the full Google Hangout version of this episode via the second player below or stream the edited audio from this link or the first player.

I used to enjoy them but maybe it needed a change to freshen things up, hence why Mark decided to bin Granville off

Noboby binned Granville off...he needed timeout in the evenings to get his political career on track. Sadly, we have to record in the evenings right now but hopefully we can coax him back for a few next season when he's not out canvassing for votes.

Yeah, I was only joking about that. I thought he got fed up because he was doing so bad in FPL - didn't know about the politics but fair play to him. Be nice to hear him back again.

    Wimbledon Doubles Update

Congratulations to Spectrum & Newton1982 for winning the final in straight sets against Still Unsure & Mr Alex. Both Spectrum and Newton1982 scored over a hundred points before hits this week and ran out 197-174 victors after accounting for the 4 point hits that both players took to bring in Eden Hazard.

Their journey to the final was not an easy one as they had to come back from a set down in each of their first 3 matches, but they battled through and really hit form in the home stretch, winning the quarters, the semis and the final each in straight sets.

As always you can view the full tournament history here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1m-0_-g1oDN9-q_LXwfmjv4_3zvbx79VWSDLe7M0hmTQ/pubhtml

Firstly, not a knock on Andy and Luke when I say this Mark, but the banter between yourself and Granville being two mates playing fantasy football against one another was the major appeal for me (and a lot of others) when I first started listening.

As it stands, the Scoutcasts are very stat driven now and as a result lost the magic of what made the Scoutcasts as good as they were.

Maybe a removal of a certain dullard might tempt Granville back into the fold. I'd certainly welcome it.

Secondly, while I can understand that it's probably a lot easier to rip the mp3 from the Googlecast and load that as an MP3 to use, the Scoutcasts in their current format are in terrible quality.

Is there any chance that it could go back to an audio only format?

If not and you're going to continue using the video format then can I ask that a bit of money gets given to the others and upgrade the audio equipment they use like you seemingly have done - watching people use headphones from an iPhone screams second rate.

I hear you and take on board the points about how the casts have changed.

The problem is that Granville couldn't commit to evenings with other stuff going on (he's now a councillor having been elected) and I couldn't spare the afternoons because of running the site and business at that time.

I guess things have transitioned without our rivalry playing a part.

Would love to get that back but I can't force Granville to find time to play next season and be about in the evenings when he's now got another major interest going on. Hopefully we can sort something out.

On the issue of sound quality, I've bought everyone decent Blue USB mics so I reckon it's Bandwidth causing the issue. We will try to improve that. Perhaps we will do some tests with audio only, although the YouTube version gets I've 5k views so I doubt we will abandon that.

I agree that a better audio version of the ScoutCast is needed in order for FFS to "provide an experience that works well for all."

I assume "all" includes non-natives from other continents who listen to the audio version while on the road or at work. 😀

What's the main issue with the sound? Volume distortion and variance?

Like I say, we all have decent mics now. We will do some tests over the summer and see how it can improve.

I saw the massive Hot Topic about potential new chips.

I really worry about this. They introduced 3 chips this year and are already discussing new ones. If it keeps going like this, then in 3 or 4 years FPL will be unrecognisable and far too complex.

What has made this format successful is the way it kept to the basics. Points for goals, clean sheets and assists. Not for passes completed or clearances etc. Pick good players and sit back and enjoy. It was popular because it had the right level of simplicity to keep players of all types interested. The more it changes, the less important it is to pick good players rather than navigating a complicated set of rules and fixtures.

I already know people (we can call them 'casuals' I guess) who are quitting next year because it is too complex and requires too much commitment.

Maybe this season wasn't too bad but it could escalate if they're given a positive response. A few small changes season by season lead to massive long term change. A new player trying out the game is going to be bamboozled.

Players playing for their place in the FA cup final is huge motivation. Also a lot of rotation happened in the last 7 games due to semis.

I don't buy that, Pardew is pretty sure of his cup final XI, I'd say - but he will send the stiffs out telling them they have a chance. There was only really rotation for the Man Utd game - and I would expect the same on Sunday.

          Pretty good assist. 😛

He'll be a good squad player, I think he's had a good season but still prone to a mistake or 2.

It weren't bad at all. Morphed into Iniesta for a moment. 😛

He's only decent but still a slight improvement on every Pool CB for me, and would give some much needed aerial ability on crosses, which they lack.

Allardyce did say he'll play U-21s next GW. But for obvious reasons Defoe is looking for an Euro call-up. He probably should be immune to rotation.

Right, I'm going to bed with this conundrum troubling my sleep: Aguero or Giroud? Aguero is so much the better player, but Giroud has an opportunity to feast on Villa. Plus, getting Aguero costs Martial, while Giroud can be had for the paltry cost of Carrol (or Defoe). So which one? I would love advice, but I reckon sleep is what it will take, and I am rushing off to get that time-honoured assistance. G'Night!

Think Cout/Willian/Defoe all gametime risks, potentially address two of them for a hit

Yeah.. but that's what subs are for..
Not sure I want to take a hit.
It would make more sense if there were more games later.

Hard to tell how each team will line up in fairness
Giroud is being talked up a bit but he could be benched for Wally too.

          Russian roulette..

Tempted to just go with Willian- KDB and just be done with it.

Although Carroll is just sitting there with a big smile on him after doing FA with the armband and maybe deserves punishment.
He could turn around and grab a goal or two just as well tho.

So you are keen on Kane without Dembele or Alli? I am not challenging, just asking. I have been staying away from Kane because it looks like his supply-line might have dried up. I am interested in your thoughts.

This might surpise you, but I always look at your tables, and have done already. I gather that you are saying that Lamela has picked up the slack. I can't decide whether that means anything. There is not a lot of history supporting the idea that Lamela stepping up replaces what made Harry so effective. Lately (I know it's a small sample size) he has not done well without his old mates. But I rate your opinion, so I will be thinking hard on this one.

Binning the chips should be a discussion too.

Would be very much in favour of this and the reinstatement of the Jan WC

No, Jan WC just led to too much templating. I quite like the chips too, even if I now dislike Andy Carroll!

Strip it right back to one wildcard but still carry over free transfers

They should bin wildcards too IMO, but the added variance from having them makes it more interesting for more casual players.

Bin everything. Put a cap on transfers. I'd be the happiest man you could find.

Would love that.. 2 transfers every week one for free one costs -4.. that's your lot

You should play Sky FF then if you want a cap. 40 transfers for the season and that's your lot.

From a small sample of my minileagues I got the impression that more people were playing properly for longer than previous seasons - maybe the chips helped with this. So, I can't see them being binned at all

Any of these worth a -4 hit?

      Azpilicueta -> Bellerin
      Carroll -> Kane
      Firmino -> Tadic

        • 11 Years

Firmino > Tadic is, assuming you cannot field XI guaranteed starters. Roberto won't even be on the bench imo.

Yeah I can field a relatively strong team without a hit. Could do:

          Hazard/Sanchez/Fabregas/Payet
          Defoe/Carroll/Giroud or Kane

If I did Firmino to Tadic (-4) I would bench one of Carroll/Fabregas.
